Sam [00:00:08]:
Hello and welcome to episode 585 of the Chris and Sam podcast.
Chris [00:00:26]:
I’m Chris.
Sam [00:00:27]:
And I’m Sam. Welcome along to your weekly fix of randoms, technology and life. And man, we’ve got some stuff this week. Hey, last week after field days when I saw you and re recorded, I actually did something else. I completely forgot about it. I went to the BNZ Theatre for some weird group interview.
Chris [00:00:40]:
Group interview.
Sam [00:00:41]:
So they advertise two roles going and they need a whole bunch of people to either be backstage crew for when they do shows or ushers.
Chris [00:00:51]:
All right, so this is like a part time job.
Sam [00:00:54]:
Part time job because you know how much time I’ve got.
Chris [00:00:57]:
You got free all the time in the world.
Sam [00:00:59]:
Free and available. Thought this was a good idea. They did it over two nights and I went straight after field days on the Wednesday. Wednesday, yeah. I think the average age of most of the people there must have been 1606.
Chris [00:01:15]:
Oh, that young. I was like, I was expecting you to say they’re all oldies, but no,
Sam [00:01:20]:
the oldies there was probably out of that whole thing, the oldies was me, Sarah and Paige.
Chris [00:01:28]:
All right.
Sam [00:01:28]:
And a couple of. There was two others, one near your age and one other guy who was this weird, mysterious guy in the corner in the group. And so I’m doing backstage and Sarah and Paige went off to the usher one. And they only have like five employees at that theater.
Chris [00:01:45]:
Oh, wow.
Sam [00:01:46]:
And they’ve been using contractors for everything else. And they’ve got this really young guy, really young guy that runs behind the scenes, young girl that runs ushers and stuff like that. And then the main guy and then two others that were not there. And they said, oh, we’re going to do this group interview to get to know you a little better and we’re going to go through some scenarios and if you’ve got an answer, you just let me know. Okay. So they’re all there. They’re all rather excited as you can imagine these children being. I’m there, I’m not exaggerating.
Sam [00:02:19]:
I think I’m one of the only people there with a full time job.
Chris [00:02:22]:
Yeah. That does not surprise me in general, thinking of my experiences in theater groups, et cetera. Yep.
Sam [00:02:30]:
So it was something like, what do you do? What’s your favorite show? And I think that might have been it. So we went around the room. The shows that in my group for backstage were pretty good. The other group I heard they all quoting all the West End shows they’ve seen when they all went to London or Europe because they’re all rich, I think. And they had these scenarios and some of the scenarios that came out, they’re like, if this happens, what would you do? And it was interesting because these people have no life experience whatsoever. So they’re just saying the best thing that they think they know, which is funny. And apparently the Usher ones was even worse. They were just like, Sarah goes, they would not do that because they’re a child.
Sam [00:03:15]:
They do not know how to handle anyone. Anyway, so we’re all through that. And then if he liked your answer, apparently he’d be like, so what was your name? And he’d write it down. Not for me, I’m too old, I think. Anyway, I got an email and it says, hey, thanks for coming. Too bad, too sad. I’m like, okay, well, who cares? I’m too busy. And then three days later, so I’m taking.
Chris [00:03:36]:
It wasn’t your idea to do this, really?
Sam [00:03:39]:
Oh, no, no, no, it was good. No, it was. Right, yeah, okay. No, it was good. I thought, this is great. I get to learn some stuff. So the problem is though, for the behind the scenes stuff, they do pack in, which is like nine o’ clock in the morning. In the morning for whatever.
Sam [00:03:51]:
So they’re only sort of helping the stage teams from the productions. They’re not doing too much themselves. Yeah, they’re just sort of there. It takes him eight hours to put the seats in or take the seats out on the bottom layer.
Chris [00:04:03]:
Oh, wow.
Sam [00:04:04]:
And they’re all powered, like air powered. So you connect an airline, it jacks them up and then they get wheeled underground and through corridors to get into a basement apparently. And they’re in like groups of I don’t know how long, but they roll around and then when they get to where they need to be, they release the air and they drop. The guy was telling me eight hours to do that. So it’s either eight hours to bring them out or eight hours to put them back. So it’s a whole day or you’re packing out. And he said that’s usually like 10 or 10:30 at night till maybe 1 in the morning if a production’s leaving. And I’m like, cool.
Sam [00:04:38]:
Anyway, I know you go on a roster and you get to pick when you want to go. And there’s induction, all that. Anyway, two days later I get an email going, hey, congratulations. Yep, we picked you. And I’m like, what is going on? So I got denied for the usher one, which I must have ticked at some point, but got picked for the backstage thing.
Chris [00:04:57]:
Oh, okay.
Sam [00:04:57]:
So in a few weeks I’m going to get more information and I. Yeah, who knows? We’ll see. Anyway, that happened. Went to field days on Saturday.
Chris [00:05:07]:
Yep.
Sam [00:05:07]:
I went to three days out of the four because I’m a glutton for punishment.
Chris [00:05:14]:
Hey, did you go by yourself or did you.
Sam [00:05:16]:
No, no, I went with Sarah on Saturday, which was good. Actually. Paid for a coffee on Saturday? No.
Chris [00:05:22]:
Oh, paid. What the hell?
Sam [00:05:24]:
Because Golden State Coffee were there. They are the unofficial sponsor of our podcast. They don’t know that. But what happened was I took a nice photo. They’ve got a really old American truck that they serve out of. It’s really cool. And they’ve got a container out the back of the base at the moment they’ve set up there. And I took a photo of it and they liked it and everybody that worked there liked it.
Sam [00:05:47]:
And all their friends liked. Was one of our most popular posts from field days. So Golden State Coffee, go check them out. We really like them. A bunch of people at work really like them too. So they’re unofficial sponsor of the Chris and Sam podcast. And I’m just keep saying that. So it pops up in search.
Sam [00:06:03]:
Went to Spec Savers in the health tent.
Chris [00:06:06]:
Okay.
Sam [00:06:07]:
I went on the Wednesday or Thursday and I spun a little wheel and I got glass cleaning cloths. Fine, that’s good. Sarah went, spun a wheel and it went on special prize. And the woman says, hey, are you thinking of getting glasses, you know, soon. Sarah goes, yeah, I am actually, because over two years I need to get a check and I hate my frames. William goes, okay. So she’s doing something at the back with Sarah, and I see a piece of paper. I wander off and look at something else, and I assume it’s just a discount.
Sam [00:06:39]:
They’re filling out something for a discount. She comes over to me, Sarah, and she goes, hey, I’ve just got this. And it says, this card entitles you to two free pairs of glasses from anything in the store on us.
Chris [00:06:52]:
Holy crap.
Sam [00:06:53]:
And on the back it’s got. From the PR team, and it’s got the person’s name and date and all this stuff. It’s got a special code. There’s almost no conditions. And I said to Sarah, did you read the very last bit on the conditions? And she goes, no. And I said, it says, you can pick as many of the extras as you want. They are included.
Chris [00:07:11]:
So we haven’t so there’s like a case and stuff?
Sam [00:07:13]:
I mean, no, I think it’s all the lens coatings.
Chris [00:07:16]:
Oh, okay.
Sam [00:07:17]:
So this is potentially seven, eight hundred dollars worth. Oh. Cause it’s two pairs of glasses. One could be sunglasses. We think this is up to like, whatever. There’s no limit. We haven’t sorted it out yet. Oh, you’ve got a year to use it.
Chris [00:07:29]:
That’s amazing. Holy crap.
Sam [00:07:31]:
Pretty crazy.
Chris [00:07:32]:
That’s awesome. But you got cleaners, so that’s.
Sam [00:07:34]:
Yeah, I know. Walking around. We went to. We were just walking down the street. In field days, there’s better craft. They do outdoor clothing for farmers.
Chris [00:07:45]:
Okay.
Sam [00:07:46]:
And this young guy comes up to us and he’s got down syndrome. And he goes, hi, would you like some cookies? And he gives me a whole packet of Anzac cookies. And I’m like, okay, cool. Free cookies. Love it. And it’s got better craft on the packaging, on the outside and on the back. It’s Riley’s cookies and he’s Riley.
Chris [00:08:06]:
Oh, that’s cool.
Sam [00:08:07]:
And I don’t know how this works because I can’t figure out who it is or what it is or who’s making these cookies. But he has a website. We’ll have a link in our show notes. I think it’s rileyscookies.co.nz and if you are a corporate sponsor, a corporate company.
Chris [00:08:24]:
Corporate.
Sam [00:08:24]:
Corporate, yeah. And you want to give a gift to somebody, Riley basically gets the cardboard sleeve printed with your logo on the top and his story on the back. And he’s got multiple sponsors and companies that have done this already. It starts at 300 packets, I think is usually the minimum, but he can do less if you want. Really nice website. Doesn’t tell you about anything else. Just this guy’s story. If you want over 1200 packets, he can do it by the pallet load and they can stagger it.
Sam [00:08:53]:
So you’re always getting the fresh cookies. And I was like, I want to know if this is just a standalone thing with this guy or if the company that makes the cookies have tagged different ambassadors or people with different needs to have their own cookies.
Chris [00:09:09]:
Yeah, no, it’s interesting. I wanna find out too now.
Sam [00:09:12]:
So anyway, that’s pretty cool.
Chris [00:09:13]:
That’s very cool.
Sam [00:09:14]:
The last story from Saturday, Sorry, guys. Field days is a big deal around here. I went and spoke to the metal detecting people.
Chris [00:09:21]:
Oh. Oh, yes, we missed those.
Sam [00:09:24]:
In hindsight, I probably should have interviewed them, but I did not because I was getting too excited about this metal detector in my hand waving Around. Yeah, so that was all good. But they had a. The rep from Minelab was there. Minelab. If you want to send me a metal detector, because you’re the best Minelab, you can do that. Cause this is coming up in the transcription. But they had a rep and then they had an ambassador and he’s an Australian guy and he’s a full time metal detectorist, gold hunter.
Sam [00:09:52]:
And he showed me a photo. The guy said, show him the photo, show him the photo. And he had found recently a $40,000 nugget.
Chris [00:10:00]:
Holy crap.
Sam [00:10:01]:
And I said to him, how big’s a 40,000? The rock itself, it looked like the size of sort of like a big baseball. And then all through it was all this gold.
Chris [00:10:12]:
So it was the gold within the rock.
Sam [00:10:14]:
Yeah, yeah. But there was a big chunk of it that looks solid. And he goes, yeah, this is pretty cool. And I was like, yes, yes it is. But they’ve brought out some new metal detectors if you’re wondering, so just send me one.
Chris [00:10:26]:
But Sam’s got a bit of a love affair with metal detectors.
Sam [00:10:29]:
Yeah. I don’t know why, but I said to him, what area? And he goes, oh, I’m in a five kilometer square and that’s it. I just stay in the one spot. I’m just prospecting the whole thing. I was like, oh, cool.
Chris [00:10:41]:
Five kilometers, that’s a fair bit of space.
Sam [00:10:42]:
That’s a decent space. Yeah, but in Australia it’s like a speck.
Chris [00:10:46]:
Well, yeah, I mean there’s a lot of 5km squares in Australia.
Sam [00:10:51]:
But yeah, very quickly last night, I think they announced it because. Or, or they posted about it. Maybe they announced it earlier. The postmate, who we did an interview, it’s out now. They won People’s Choice award.
Chris [00:11:02]:
Oh, did they?
Sam [00:11:02]:
Yeah, yeah.
Chris [00:11:03]:
Oh, nice.
Sam [00:11:03]:
Harry on the team from the Postmate or postmate, $2,000. And then one of the people that voted got 500 bucks.
Chris [00:11:11]:
Yeah, good on them because he, he was very engaging.
Sam [00:11:14]:
He was great.
Chris [00:11:15]:
He was really cool. And it’s such a good. Like I saw the implement there and went, I don’t get it. And then you watch the video. Oh, oh, yeah, that’s easy. Yeah, yeah, makes sense. So that’s cool. Hey, I’ve got something I wanted to mention and we’ll put the couple of notes in the links in the show.
Chris [00:11:33]:
Notes. I’m going to be speaking at another summit.
Sam [00:11:37]:
You’re always talking at summits.
Chris [00:11:39]:
Yes. So the last time I didn’t let anyone know until after it was over. So this Time. I’m going to get in a little bit earlier. It’s early in July, so I’ve got a couple of weeks yet. But basically I’ve got a link for a couple of things. So they’re giving a freebie away. They always give a freebie away just to get people interested.
Chris [00:11:59]:
Freebie is a free AI course creation tool. So there’s a thing for that. But also I’ll give you a free ticket to the summit. Obviously they will try and upsell you to a VIP where you get some extra thingies and you get the recordings and all that. Totally up to you. But if you’re listening to this and you like to support the Krista Sam podcast, go in and, you know, register for the free ticket because that helps me out, because it lets them know I actually did do some promotion on this.
Sam [00:12:30]:
Okay.
Chris [00:12:31]:
And it’ll help me get onto.
Sam [00:12:34]:
So we’ll have the link in the show notes.
Chris [00:12:35]:
Yeah, that’ll be cool. It’s the Millionaire Speakers Summit.
Sam [00:12:40]:
I’m already out.
Chris [00:12:42]:
I know. I’m like, I said yes before I knew what the name of the summit was.
Sam [00:12:47]:
That’s how they get you.
Chris [00:12:48]:
I know, but anyway, so I don’t know if that means I’m not qualified. I don’t know. But anyway, that’s.
Sam [00:12:55]:
I’ve got opinions, but.
Chris [00:12:57]:
I know you do. You always do.
Sam [00:12:59]:
That’s right.
Chris [00:13:01]:
Oh. So Chiefs versus the Hurricanes this weekend.
Sam [00:13:04]:
Okay.
Chris [00:13:05]:
It’s the finals.
Sam [00:13:06]:
Okay.
Chris [00:13:06]:
The grand finals.
Sam [00:13:07]:
Yep. Okay.
Chris [00:13:08]:
So the two teams that I’ve ever supported, Hurricanes when I lived in Wellington, and Chiefs, when I lived here, always bomb out.
Sam [00:13:17]:
Yeah, true.
Chris [00:13:19]:
They are meeting in the finals. I only found out about it today. I only noticed it today. I went, ah, I’m going to go to the pub and watch this game because I haven’t watched rugby at a pub for, well, I don’t know, a decade or more. But that sounds good.
Sam [00:13:32]:
I’m glad you’re excited.
Chris [00:13:34]:
Yeah. Okay. Well, I. I would.
Sam [00:13:36]:
It’s fun. No, like, I. It’s. It’s fine. It’s. Whatever it is. I just. I don’t know, It’s.
Sam [00:13:41]:
I was in a meeting the other day and before they even started talking about very important things, they had to talk about that.
Chris [00:13:48]:
All right.
Sam [00:13:48]:
And I, like, the guy just brought it up and it was a whole thing and I was just like, cool. Like, yeah, I really.
Chris [00:13:56]:
No, I know. I know what you mean.
Sam [00:13:58]:
You could literally pick anything. But I guess the thing is there’s so many people that are supporting it and interested in It. Which is great. It’s just.
Chris [00:14:06]:
Well, when I went to Tarapa Tavern,
Sam [00:14:08]:
I feel that for the people that aren’t, I guess.
Chris [00:14:11]:
Yeah, yeah, I guess when I exit Tarapa Tavern, not only the first division, we had to put the second division games on the board because there’s this whole thing about everybody who’s a club member of the Tavern got to vote every. And there was money involved and all that sort of thing. And so people would say, oh, how did Bay of Nelson go against Bay of Plenty or whatever it was. And I’d know all the scores every week off the top of my head. And then when I left there I went, I am not, I don’t want to know what any rugby is. And so I stopped watching anything for ages.
Sam [00:14:49]:
That’s fair enough. There’s a lot happening in Brazil this week. Did you see the woman that swung to her death?
Chris [00:14:54]:
No. What?
Sam [00:14:56]:
So this 21 year old was really excited to do this bridge swing from an abandoned bridge in Brazil. And there’s video of her being excited for it, social media, this and that. And then they’ve got video of the two instructors picking her up and sort of a Superman throw. So she’s laying horizontal and they sort of throw her but they forgot to do one very important thing.
Chris [00:15:20]:
Tie her in.
Sam [00:15:21]:
Yes. So she just fell 40 metres to her death. But apparently she didn’t die instantly, but died very soon after. But they ran off. There was like six of them running this thing and then military police had to find them. It’s like a whole story. And now some of them are getting charged for homicide. But they literally forgot and were excited and it was like, I think a semi legitimate, like tourism thing.
Sam [00:15:45]:
It wasn’t just. Anyway, so it was crazy.
Chris [00:15:47]:
Random guys on a bridge.
Sam [00:15:48]:
And then another story from Brazil because why not? How if you’re posing, if you’re a grown woman and you’re posing as a 12 year old with a Christian family who somehow believe this, and then you live with them for 16 months until you get found out. How old do you think you can go past 12 to try and carry this?
Chris [00:16:10]:
So she was pretending she was 12 but she was a lot older.
Sam [00:16:14]:
Yeah.
Chris [00:16:15]:
So she’d be 23.
Sam [00:16:18]:
Nah, she was 37. And she said I look like this because of trauma. It looks like a 37 year old woman.
Chris [00:16:25]:
Yeah. Doesn’t look really young to me. Although I have seen some fat kids that look. So anyway, actually, have you heard about that person that was going for. It was either mayor or, or some, some election. It Was, I think. Yeah, like an mp. I think it was an mp and it was in an African country.
Chris [00:16:47]:
I forget which one.
Sam [00:16:47]:
All right.
Chris [00:16:48]:
And he was going on about his hard life as a dwarf. With dwarf.
Sam [00:16:54]:
Yeah, yeah.
Chris [00:16:54]:
And he was going on and on about this and he was answering all these questions. I’ve seen some of the clips of him in things. And he goes, people just don’t take me seriously. I. Because I’m so small and I look so young and all this. And it’s just a DW. Turns out he was 13.
Sam [00:17:11]:
Oh, that’s. I find that
Chris [00:17:17]:
it’s just like, dude, you are not 37, you’re 13.
Sam [00:17:21]:
I find that better than this way. I’d prefer that. Anyway, one of the relatives of this very naive family keep staring at her and said, this doesn’t seem right. And looked her up and three years prior she’d done the same thing in Rio de Janeiro. So they’ve arrested her.
Chris [00:17:38]:
Oh, that’s weird.
Sam [00:17:39]:
Talking about arresting and scams. This is in Michigan. This guy called Yugbi Chauhan, he’s an Indian man.
Chris [00:17:47]:
Good old Yugbi Yugbe.
Sam [00:17:49]:
I know, he’s the best. He started scamming a 79 year old woman. And he said, hey, your Social Security number was linked to terrorism, drugs and money laundering. I will help you. So the authorities can trace the criminals, but I need you to go get $700,000 worth of gold coins. And she’s like, yep, on it. So off she goes, what the. Yeah.
Sam [00:18:16]:
So she goes, I want 145, 1 ounce American Eagle Gold coins from a place called Grand Rapids Coins. And the store owner’s standing there going, this is weird. You haven’t traded in gold before? Nope. I need these coins. And he’s like, okay. So he alerts the Kent County Sheriff’s office and they look into it and they take over the communication with the scammer. Then an undercover officer goes and meets old friggin what’s his face. Yug B.
Sam [00:18:46]:
And go, hey, got the coins. Here they are. And they give him a bunch of chocolate coins. Then they arrest.
Chris [00:18:54]:
I love the chocolate coins. That’s a great.
Sam [00:18:56]:
They didn’t have to do that, probably.
Chris [00:18:58]:
No, they didn’t. But that’s awesome. I love it.
Sam [00:19:00]:
That’s good.
Chris [00:19:00]:
Talking of things that made me laugh this week, did you see the G7 presence?
Sam [00:19:06]:
So this is when G7 get together and you’re talking about the gifts.
Chris [00:19:09]:
Yeah. And every year they give a gift and they give something different. Usually it’s the host Nation gives a gift to everybody there. And it’s something cultural usually, or something
Sam [00:19:19]:
to do with that. I have not. So where was this and what did they get?
Chris [00:19:24]:
I believe it was in France.
Sam [00:19:25]:
Okay.
Chris [00:19:26]:
And the funniest thing is just the photo of, of Trump with his. His gift. And I’m just going to show you. It’s a bicycle in, in the flag colors.
Sam [00:19:38]:
Look how unhappy he looks.
Chris [00:19:41]:
Can you imagine Trump on a bike?
Sam [00:19:44]:
And it’s a road bike.
Chris [00:19:45]:
Somebody’s like, I can’t believe this is the, the trolliest gift ever, giving Trump a road bike. Yeah. And I guess it’s because it’s the French. You know, the. What’s the big French cycling thing they do?
Sam [00:20:00]:
Tour de France.
Chris [00:20:01]:
Yeah, that’s one.
Sam [00:20:02]:
Only in New Zealand can somebody at a hospital ring someone and say, hey, your elderly dad, I think it was, is in hospital. Can you come pick him up? And the guy on the other end is not related to this other guy. He just happens to have the same name as the relative. And he goes, okay. He goes to the hospital. I think this is whakatane. Not really knowing what’s going on. And then.
Sam [00:20:27]:
Yeah. Takes him home. And the old guy goes, I don’t know you, but okay, let’s go.
Chris [00:20:31]:
Takes him to the old guy’s home.
Sam [00:20:33]:
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And he goes, why not? But then they rung up and said, have you picked up the actual family rung? The rang the sister in law and asked if her father had returned. And they said, yep, we’re gonna pick him up. But a man with the same name dropped him off at home already. So weird. Like, why would you go, yeah, let’s go.
Chris [00:20:55]:
Sure, sure, I can do that. Yeah, no, that’s, that’s cool. That is pretty weird, but it’s pretty cool.
Sam [00:21:02]:
Do you want a kickstart or drop kick this week?
Chris [00:21:04]:
Yeah, go for it.
Sam [00:21:05]:
One of them is, I’m just gonna go straight away. Blast air Redefining Portable Air power. It’s very good.
Chris [00:21:13]:
Okay.
Sam [00:21:14]:
It’s like, it looks like a little tiny power bank, but it can blow air. It’s a very powerful thing. It’s designed to sit most air things.
Chris [00:21:25]:
Like, they’re a canister that you fit in.
Sam [00:21:28]:
No. So think of this as like a little blower.
Chris [00:21:32]:
Okay.
Sam [00:21:33]:
And in their examples. Cause I was like, oh, you can inflate things with it. Like, that’s. You can do that with this thing. It looks like that.
Chris [00:21:42]:
Okay.
Sam [00:21:43]:
And what they show it doing is like blowing dust and dirt around and cleaning things. Oh, ok. And then it can also inflate things and if you want to, you can like help a fire grow. Things like that. All very important. It does wireless charging. It has 130,000 rpm brushless motor generating wind speeds up to 65 metres a second. That’s important.
Sam [00:22:09]:
Rapid inflation. 1200 litres of air per minute. Chris is getting excited. You get this precision cleaning thing and it can last for about 60 minutes on one charge.
Chris [00:22:19]:
Yeah, yeah. I was all excited when I thought it was like a power tools, you know, like a air canister for an air compressor type. Yeah, replacement.
Sam [00:22:29]:
But no, it’s 119 New Zealand dollars. Super early bird for one of these little doohickey things.
Chris [00:22:35]:
I am sure I’ve seen these on Facebook.
Sam [00:22:37]:
I’m sure there’s a million of them. They wanted to raise about 8,500 New Zealand dollars.
Chris [00:22:43]:
I’m going to say they got past that. Oh, how long?
Sam [00:22:46]:
33 days to go at the time of this recording.
Chris [00:22:48]:
So it’s halfway.
Sam [00:22:49]:
Roughly about halfway we think.
Chris [00:22:50]:
Okay, I’m going to say 12 grand.
Sam [00:22:52]:
They’re up to $245,000.
Chris [00:22:55]:
Really?
Sam [00:22:57]:
Don’t be surprised. You know, this is how it works. Okay, I got another one for you. Uni pop.
Chris [00:23:03]:
Uni pop.
Sam [00:23:04]:
So this is the last jar and bottle opener you’ll ever need. Now I’m sure there’s things like this around and it’s sort of like a pair of pliers that can grab a metal lid on a jar and it helps you pop it off.
Chris [00:23:19]:
Right.
Sam [00:23:20]:
So normally you see ones that twist.
Chris [00:23:21]:
But that’s why I say this one doesn’t seem to be a twisty one. It’s more like a bottle opener.
Sam [00:23:26]:
It seems to pull out the thing that’s the ultimate one hand solution for stubborn lids, jars and bottles. Ergonomic, it looks really good. It’s one handed so you don’t need raw grip strength to turn or rubber pads. You just sort of go pop. Yeah. It’s specifically built to help people dealing with arthritis, hand fatigue or limited grip strength.
Chris [00:23:45]:
Now there’s some benefits there like that’s there’s some real need there.
Sam [00:23:48]:
Yeah, real need they want. The funny thing is this only costs 33 New Zealand dollars. So I thought price wise that’s great. They wanted to raise $1700 New Zealand easy.
Chris [00:24:00]:
Should be easy.
Sam [00:24:01]:
And it’s 12 days left at time of recording.
Chris [00:24:04]:
Now this one should be over 100 $200,000 because that’s a really useful thing.
Sam [00:24:10]:
So what’s your guess?
Chris [00:24:11]:
$100,000?
Sam [00:24:12]:
151,000. I thought the price was really good.
Chris [00:24:17]:
Yeah, no, that is pretty good. I do want to see it working, though, because I don’t get how that works.
Sam [00:24:22]:
There’s a video here. Like, we can watch a video. Yo, that’s good for a. Some kitchen tasks look simple until your hands say otherwise. Jars, sauce, lids, sealed caps, different tufflets. One easy way to open them. Meet uni pop by hard crafts. It helps break the vacuum seal first, so opening feels.
Chris [00:24:43]:
Oh, I see. Breaks the vacuum seal. So it’s easy to. Yeah, right.
Sam [00:24:48]:
You’re in. You want one. 33 bucks.
Chris [00:24:50]:
Makes sense.
Sam [00:24:50]:
It’s yours. Plus probably about 50 bucks worth of shipping. Who knows? I just made that last bit up. The CEO has realized that he’s got rid of a lot of problems because he’s fired the whole HR team now. It’s helped him a lot.
Chris [00:25:04]:
Who?
Sam [00:25:05]:
This guy? He’s the CEO of Bolt and he eliminated the HR team because it was creating.
Chris [00:25:12]:
I read a little bit about this
Sam [00:25:14]:
because I thought about unnecessary problems.
Chris [00:25:16]:
Yeah, because he started a startup and you don’t have HR in the startup, and so you move fast and break things famously. And so he did all that, and then he got big and he got all this money and it was going big, so he got all these HR people and they’re all slowing them down, so he fired them all.
Sam [00:25:38]:
He was once valued at $11 billion, the company, or the company was, and now it’s just a poor 300 million. And I was thinking about that. That’s like Joe Rogan becoming the Chris and Sam podcast.
Chris [00:25:52]:
Yeah. We’re only 300 million now.
Sam [00:25:53]:
I know. And we don’t have an HR team. We’re going to get one soon. They’re going to have to probably deal with Chris or something. Yeah, yeah.
Chris [00:26:05]:
From all the HR complaints that I will generate, no doubt.
Sam [00:26:08]:
I’ve got one thing here to end on that you will like, but you won’t want to spend the money, and you’re probably going to ask questions about why this exists. So, Commodore, the computer people have decided to make a dumb smart flip phone. Oh, sorry. They’re calling it a not dumb flip phone. So a dude. Christian Perry. Fraktic Simpson, they called him.
Chris [00:26:31]:
Good grief.
Sam [00:26:32]:
He acquired the brand in 2025, and apparently in a comment, he’s got all the moulds and everything for the actual Commodore computers from back in the day.
Chris [00:26:41]:
Was he part of that whole thing when they did that revamp of it a couple of years ago? I think we Talked about it on the podcast, maybe. Yeah.
Sam [00:26:48]:
But I don’t know. But they’ve brought this thing out called the Callback 8020. It’s a $499 US phone. That’s not dumb. But it can’t do a lot. It’s going to provide you a digital detox because that’s important. Yeah, it’s a secondary phone. Have you seen this? So when you go out on the weekends and stuff, you have the secondary phone and it literally can just do phone calls, but you can maybe do messaging or WhatsApp on it, but you can’t do anything else.
Sam [00:27:17]:
So this one.
Chris [00:27:17]:
See, you wanna. I think the secondary phone has to be able to do Uber. Like, to me, if I’m going out, that’s all I want is the Uber and the phone.
Sam [00:27:27]:
I think this one might be able to. But you can’t do social media on it.
Chris [00:27:30]:
Yeah, exactly.
Sam [00:27:31]:
So that’s what that is. It looks. It’s got. I’ll find this image for you. It’s got some pretty cool color options and it’s. I don’t know, there’s there. There’s one there that’s the main one.
Chris [00:27:43]:
Oh, yeah, that’s very Commodore.
Sam [00:27:46]:
Yeah 80s. But there’s some nice blue ones and stuff. And I can’t find the full range. And apparently you can do like video calls on it. Like they’ll let you do that. But the question is, do you want to spend US$499 on it? And the thing is, I don’t know if you know, there’s old.
Chris [00:28:02]:
Probably more than a Trump phone.
Sam [00:28:04]:
I don’t know. But there’s a lot of this type of phone out there now. Yeah, there’s heaps, actually. Weird little phones. Anyway, we bring you all the latest tech here at the Chris and Sam podcast.
Chris [00:28:13]:
Even the nostalgia tech.
Sam [00:28:15]:
Yeah, I mean, that’s what they’re probably trying to get. Old people that remember Commodores.
Chris [00:28:20]:
Old people like me, with loads of money.
Sam [00:28:24]:
Do we start laughing now? Anyway, that brings us to the end of the podcast. Tcast.com for everything, including interviews from field days. Some more have dropped. That’s exciting.
Chris [00:28:35]:
And only 15 episodes away from our 600th episode.
Sam [00:28:39]:
We’ve got some stuff to do. Yeah, it’s sort of working in chunks. I’m just trying to get through the work thing. I’m currently off field. Finish off field days, the work thing, and then the pitch to produce this thing for misty flicks 48 hours. I’m doing something for that, let’s say month and then this.
Chris [00:28:59]:
And then Mistyflix. Yes. And then Christmas. Tedx.
Sam [00:29:04]:
Oh, tedx.
Chris [00:29:04]:
For you. Yeah, for me.
Sam [00:29:05]:
So anyway, I’m sure one of us will have a mental breakdown at some point. Anyway.
Chris [00:29:12]:
Yeah.
Sam [00:29:12]:
So come check us out. Come say hi. Thanks to everyone that already has.
Chris [00:29:15]:
Yeah. And come check out the show notes for this. There’s a couple of links there. Don’t forget, get your free Millionaire speakers Summit ticket.
Sam [00:29:24]:
Super important. Okay, until next time. I’m Sam.
Chris [00:29:26]:
I’m Chris.
Sam [00:29:27]:
See ya.
Chris [00:29:28]:
Bye.
