Sam [00:00:21]:
Hello, and welcome to episode 511 of the Chris and Sam podcast.

Chris [00:00:25]:
I’m Chris.

Sam [00:00:26]:
And I’m Sam. Welcome along to your weekly fix of randomness technology in life and all that other good stuff in between. Yes.

Chris [00:00:31]:
Yes. And, it’s it’s so nice to be getting this close to Christmas. It’s nice warm weather. Things are looking good. I had too many beers last night. It’s it’s great. Life is good.

Sam [00:00:43]:
Seem to be functioning.

Chris [00:00:44]:
Yeah. No. I I actually got up and did my workout this morning too.

Sam [00:00:47]:
Okay. Very good.

Chris [00:00:48]:
So my doing workout, I woke up at 3, and I was like, I’ve gotta get up at 4:30. I just lie here for it.

Sam [00:00:56]:
For a little bit?

Chris [00:00:57]:
Yeah. Anyway so, but, yeah, I wanted to start off kick off with, my app issues with a couple of things because I think it’s amusing. So I had a shoot on a film shoot on Sunday. Yeah. And I was gonna say due to communication, issues, but it wasn’t. It was just because somebody didn’t

Sam [00:01:21]:
People issues.

Chris [00:01:22]:
Stuff. The night before so we 3 of us had to get to Tokuro to do this filming Yeah. And none of us had a vehicle.

Sam [00:01:31]:
It’s a winning combo. Yes. But technology comes to the help.

Chris [00:01:35]:
Technology can help. So I I told the, the writer director that, hey, we should use Mevo, and he’s like, oh, yeah. I said, I can I can sort it out? He goes, no. No. I’ll I’ll set up an account because I’ve I think he got a $40 credit with it through AA or something because Yeah.

Sam [00:01:51]:
Or you or there’s a sign up bonus thing usually. Yeah.

Chris [00:01:54]:
Like, yeah. Okay. That’s cool. But do it soon. Sooner rather than later because you gotta put your driver’s license in. So there’s, like, an admin aspect of it.

Sam [00:02:03]:
That makes sense because they don’t wanna be giving cars to people willy nilly.

Chris [00:02:06]:
Yeah. They don’t have a driver’s license. That’s right. Like so so I and I can’t remember because it’s months months ago since I I I did that. But I I knew there was a bit of process. So he’s like, oh, yeah. You know, I’ll get it done right now. And then, I I caught up with him later that this Saturday, and I was like, so do you want me to book the Mevo? Oh, no.

Chris [00:02:26]:
I’ve got it. I’ve I’ll get it sorted. Don’t you worry about it. I’m sweet. Okay. I’ll leave it.

Sam [00:02:29]:
Okay.

Chris [00:02:30]:
He goes, I’ll pick you up at 8.

Sam [00:02:31]:
And you’re like, yes.

Chris [00:02:33]:
A 9 o’clock, call time Yeah. In down there. Alright. That’s cool. So I get up a little later because I know I’m gonna be getting up. It’s gonna be a long day. Right? Yeah. Yeah.

Chris [00:02:45]:
And so I I I’m right. Okay. Did a few things, mucking around with a few things. And then 7 o’clock, I’m just about to make breakfast because I’m getting picked up at 8. At 7 o’clock, just as I’m starting to make breakfast, had the kettle on, I get this text. Oh, can you sort out the Mevo?

Sam [00:03:03]:
What a weird time to let somebody know.

Chris [00:03:05]:
I’m like, oh, god.

Sam [00:03:07]:
This is creative people, though.

Chris [00:03:09]:
So now, normally, I’d get the Mevo be from uni here.

Sam [00:03:13]:
Of course.

Chris [00:03:14]:
But that’s booked out.

Sam [00:03:15]:
Of course.

Chris [00:03:16]:
So the next nearest one is Caro Street.

Sam [00:03:19]:
In town? In town.

Chris [00:03:21]:
Right? So I’m like, oh, crap. It’s gonna take me it’s Sunday morning. There’s no buses. Right?

Sam [00:03:27]:
Oh, true.

Chris [00:03:27]:
Yeah. First bus was

Sam [00:03:29]:
Like, way later.

Chris [00:03:30]:
Yeah. At quarter to 8. Like so I’m like, okay. Alright. So I went to the bus stop, and then and then was looking, and I was like, no. So I just started walking, limping, hobbling.

Sam [00:03:42]:
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It just it’s all stuffed.

Chris [00:03:45]:
And then, then I saw a LimeScooter. I’m like, I’ll get a LimeScooter to the Mevo.

Sam [00:03:49]:
Okay.

Chris [00:03:50]:
Because that’s how hip I am.

Sam [00:03:52]:
Well, that’s right. Have you got the LimeScooter app? No. Okay.

Chris [00:03:55]:
So I start putting in the LimeScooter app, and it just crashes, and I can’t actually finish putting the LimeScooter app and making it work.

Sam [00:04:02]:
I think it’s your more and

Chris [00:04:03]:
more angry.

Sam [00:04:04]:
It’s your phone.

Chris [00:04:05]:
I’m getting more and more angry. So, anyway, I I keep walking, and I’m finally like, screw this. I’ll sit and wait for the bus.

Sam [00:04:14]:
Oh, yeah.

Chris [00:04:14]:
Because I I got, like I was around Peachgrove Road or something, and I was like, yeah. I’ll just sit and wait for a bus. Because I’d be more annoyed if I’m walking and the bus passes me.

Sam [00:04:23]:
Because you still got quite a way to walk.

Chris [00:04:25]:
Yeah. Yeah. So I get the bus, and I’m only going getting the bus over the Bridge Street and then walking up Yeah. To Carriest Street. So I do that, get the the Mevo because I’m I’ve booked it before I left.

Sam [00:04:36]:
Good. Good. Good. Girls are gonna have

Chris [00:04:37]:
to run that then. Yeah. Yeah. I get the Mevo, jump in. All good. Come back here first because I had a box of stuff I wanted to take with me, that film box thing down there. And so they grabbed that, and then I go and pick up, Simon, and I pick up, Ella, and we go and do the shoot. And I won’t bore you with the, incredibly long shoot or the amount of work we had to do before we even started shooting.

Chris [00:05:00]:
So our 9 o’clock call time, we got there at 10. We didn’t start shooting our first frame of footage till I think I wanna say 3:30.

Sam [00:05:13]:
I can tell you because you sent me a message. Yet to shoot our first frame of footage, kill me now at quarter past 3.

Chris [00:05:22]:
Yeah.

Sam [00:05:22]:
And I said, sounds like it’s going well as expected. And I can’t remember what I was doing, but it was way more fun than that. Anyway,

Chris [00:05:31]:
so I I’m like, we’ve got a hard out at 9 o’clock because, the Mevo’s book till 10. I’ve gotta take it back at 10. Gotta be finished at 9. Of course, we didn’t finish at 9.

Sam [00:05:41]:
No.

Chris [00:05:42]:
But, I

Sam [00:05:42]:
And in the back of your head, are you just like, do you get charged what what happens? You get charged another day?

Chris [00:05:47]:
No. No. No. So It it actually worked out really well, and I didn’t because you can push it back a bit.

Sam [00:05:54]:
Oh.

Chris [00:05:54]:
But, basically, I’m paying the whole day rate. Yeah. And the whole day rate is $90.

Sam [00:05:58]:
Yeah. Can you leave it at the unit, or do you have to take it back to where you got it?

Chris [00:06:01]:
To take it back to Cara. Ah. So, anyway, so that’s cool. So we finished up, I wanna say, maybe 9:30, 10 o’clock. I I forget what it was. It was it was after the 9 thing.

Sam [00:06:11]:
Okay.

Chris [00:06:12]:
And so that’s cool. We drive back in. I, organize with because I’m like, I’m gonna have to drop it off and then walk from Cairo Street home because there’s no bus at that time. And, obviously, the LimeScooter app still doesn’t work. So that’s cool. So I I drop, Simon and Ella off, the actor and the and the director, and and and and the box of stuff I had here. Then I go to Carrow Street, but, Rob had agreed to meet me at Carrow Street.

Sam [00:06:40]:
Sound Rob Rob the sound guy?

Chris [00:06:41]:
Rob the sound guy. Yep. Legend.

Sam [00:06:43]:
He’s good.

Chris [00:06:43]:
He was like, I’ll I’ll meet you there and give you a lift. I’m like, brilliant. Thank you. That’s so good. So I get there, had to just quit cleaning the car, which is only because Simon left his coffee cup in there. I grabbed that, and I go to lock it, and I can’t lock the car. And I can’t

Sam [00:07:01]:
Do you lock it with the app?

Chris [00:07:02]:
You lock it with the app.

Sam [00:07:03]:
Okay. So you’re okay. So the app on that is just going, no.

Chris [00:07:07]:
No. And I can’t finish my my,

Sam [00:07:09]:
but You can’t end it?

Chris [00:07:11]:
I’ve run out of data. My data in use the next day, and I’d run out of data. I’m like

Sam [00:07:16]:
Oh, come on.

Chris [00:07:17]:
Can’t lock the car. I can’t. And it’s 11 o’clock, and it’s been a long day, and I’m losing my shit.

Sam [00:07:23]:
Fair, yeah, fair enough. I I I would’ve lost my shit a long time ago. Yeah.

Chris [00:07:28]:
So I go hey. I because when as I was pulling in, I could see where Robert had parked there because it was a major road works. When we came back, we stopped for 25 minutes at these lights.

Sam [00:07:39]:
Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Chris [00:07:41]:
Like, for those major roadworks.

Sam [00:07:42]:
So,

Chris [00:07:43]:
we left before him because he’s, like, I’ll pack up, and I’ll I’ll because I had to drop people off, and I’ll meet you there. But, of course, he would have been in the same block of traffic that I was in waiting for us. Anyway so he was waiting there when I got there. So I, I did this thing, and I was trying for, like, 10 minutes trying to

Sam [00:08:00]:
Yeah.

Chris [00:08:00]:
Sort this out. And then I went over to his car, and I’m like, hey. Can I hotspot off your phone? And he

Sam [00:08:06]:
Oh, yeah.

Chris [00:08:07]:
And he hotspotted the phone, and then, yeah, I turned it off. Because he couldn’t use anything else. I can only use my thing. I’m I was gonna send them a You know what I mean?

Sam [00:08:14]:
You would’ve been through day, like Yeah.

Chris [00:08:16]:
I was gonna send them a suggestion, like, you should have Wi Fi to all these places because it’s like 5 or 6 Mevo cars there. It was like a a Yeah. Yeah. That’s pod for them. Yeah. So they should have a Wi Fi.

Sam [00:08:27]:
They they decided to take away whatever their council was using that for Yeah. And, park the Mevos there.

Chris [00:08:33]:
Yeah. Anyway, like, it’s it’s a great service, and it was really cool. So ended up costing us $90 a $105.75. There’s 95

Sam [00:08:42]:
But you don’t pay for gas.

Chris [00:08:44]:
Don’t pay for gas, but there was an overage. Anything over 200 kilometers, you pay per kilometer, and so it was an extra $15 on that.

Sam [00:08:52]:
Okay. Basically, which would be Now that’s real comparable to, like, a rental car, I think. Yeah. Yeah. Because the rental car only gets cheap if you have it for multiple days, and I think if you have it for one day, maybe.

Chris [00:09:02]:
So if you get this overnight, if you get it after 5 PM, you can have it be until 9 the next morning for 36 bucks.

Sam [00:09:11]:
Yeah. I mean, that’s a great deal if you’re out and about, doing things at night.

Chris [00:09:15]:
Yeah. Or if I’m going to the movie night or something like that, that would be an ideal way to do it if I didn’t have a Sam picking me up and Yeah. That’s right. That’s right. Anyway, so that was my whole app story about my issues with app.

Sam [00:09:30]:
Do was the lime scooter problem I

Chris [00:09:32]:
haven’t tried it No.

Sam [00:09:33]:
No. But do you think you ran out of data halfway through that?

Chris [00:09:36]:
No. Because I was using I think their problem was I sent you video.

Sam [00:09:41]:
Oh, yeah. You did. It was a very long video.

Chris [00:09:43]:
And that was using my data. And it and I did I didn’t because I usually have so much excess data. So because I don’t go anywhere.

Sam [00:09:51]:
I’m actually

Chris [00:09:51]:
going to have Wi Fi at home all the time. I didn’t even think about it. I didn’t realize it was just turning up coming up to renewal.

Sam [00:09:57]:
Talking about WiFi, I’ve had a terrible experience this week with skinny broadband.

Chris [00:10:01]:
Oh, okay.

Sam [00:10:01]:
It’s I can’t remember if I mentioned this before. I don’t know if we did it on the podcast, but holy crap. Their customer service has gone down the drain. And, so basically, for whatever reason, our modem or router, whatever, just turns the Wi Fi just dies. Right? Right. And, it’s in a cupboard and now it makes this really high pitched whiny sound. Right? And I yeah. Exactly.

Sam [00:10:26]:
That’s the face.

Chris [00:10:27]:
That’s a weird thing.

Sam [00:10:28]:
Yeah. So I think, to be honest, it could be the power brick, but I’m not sure. It’s either that or the router itself. Anyway, I’m like, hey, this is working. I don’t have internet. It drops off. It might come back in an hour or 5. Like, I don’t know.

Sam [00:10:42]:
It just sort of reappears randomly, you know, and they’re like, okay. Cool oh first off you can’t ring because you’re on hold forever message us on facebook so you message on facebook it takes about 22 hours for them to reply to you not even exaggerating yep and then and then they come back and go oh hey yeah cool we’ll look into it yeah. We’ll send you an email or something. Oh, hey. We can see that you got Internet now. Everything all good? Sweet. Let us know if it’s not. I’m like, what? Okay.

Sam [00:11:11]:
So that happens again. Exact same message. 3rd time happens again. I’m like, write this giant email. I’m like, look, I don’t know if I’m talking to AI right now because that’s what it feels like. I don’t know if I’m talking to a whole different support team in another country. That’s fine, but I don’t know what’s going on. This isn’t what I expect.

Sam [00:11:32]:
My modem keeps cutting off. I don’t know why it makes a high pitched sound. You have not addressed any of my concerns. You have not asked me to check anything. You just wait 5 or 6 hours, come back and go, oh, the Internet’s good. You’re all good. I said, I’m not happy with this. Like, cool.

Sam [00:11:50]:
I also write this giant message on Facebook, and I said, look. I think what I want is I want you to send me a replacement router.

Chris [00:11:59]:
Yeah. And that is so when I work to telecom, those replacement routers, although maybe we had a cheaper ones. I don’t know.

Sam [00:12:05]:
Oh.

Chris [00:12:05]:
But they’re worth about $5, like, because they buy them in so

Sam [00:12:08]:
much Exactly. These aren’t the fanciest things in the world. Exactly. So I’m just like, cool. And then they’ll they finally come back to me and go, oh, yeah. Cool. We’ll send you a router. It’s on its way.

Sam [00:12:17]:
So it takes about 3 days to send.

Chris [00:12:20]:
Oh, god. But the

Sam [00:12:21]:
courier bag turned up yesterday for the old one, so I’m waiting for the passive aggressive messages. Remember last time when it’s 2 degrees? Where’s the modem? Where is it? And then the modem router, couldn’t get dropped off today because the courier needed a signature, and I work, normal hours now. So I’m gonna have to go pick that up tomorrow. And, because I refuse to buy another router. I was looking them up, and I was like, last resort, you know, I might just go buy 1, because I’m sure these are better quality. But, it works for sometime and the thing is because nobody’s at home during the day, we don’t know when it’s coming out.

Chris [00:12:56]:
Yeah.

Sam [00:12:56]:
Exactly. But, yeah, it’s working a majority of the time, and then it just drops out. And it always drops out when you’re trying to do something as well that’s important. So that’s always the way. I wonder

Chris [00:13:05]:
if it’s a hot water cupboard. Because this is a hot water cupboard.

Sam [00:13:08]:
No. It’s just a storage cupboard. Oh, yeah. Yeah. No. It doesn’t yeah. I don’t know. I don’t know.

Sam [00:13:15]:
But you’re right. You might be right. Maybe it’s overheating because of all this hot weather, but this will be the second or that’s, like, two and a half years old, I think. Yeah. Whatever. But they were like, oh, good news. It’s covered by warranty. And I was, like, gonna lose my shit if it wasn’t.

Sam [00:13:28]:
And then they’re like, something about, like, I think if I don’t send back the old one or something, it’s a $150 or something. It’s a and they write it really weird. I swear it’s AI. I think it is an AI bot or agent as the term I like to use these days. Yeah. So it’s made my week. It’s really annoying, actually. Yeah.

Sam [00:13:45]:
And I’m not the only one getting frustrated by it, so that’s showing you how bad it is.

Chris [00:13:49]:
Well, I tell you, have you have you heard about the drones and the morons, from, from from New Jersey?

Sam [00:13:57]:
So I don’t really know anything apart from there’s some drones flying around Yeah. All the time, and nobody knows what they are or not saying what they are. Is that the gist of it?

Chris [00:14:09]:
Yes. So so people are complaining that there’s these drones, and they, What

Sam [00:14:16]:
are the drones doing? Just flying around?

Chris [00:14:17]:
Yes. Oh, there’s drones, and there’s there’s a couple in formation and stuff.

Sam [00:14:21]:
Okay. So But it’s not a drone showway? It’s not

Chris [00:14:24]:
those guys? It’s just it’s the are they are they aliens or are they drones or are they Iranian drones or are they Chinese drones? Are they Russian drones? What are they doing? So Okay.

Sam [00:14:36]:
Yeah. Good.

Chris [00:14:36]:
Good. Good. One of the I think it was a what was she? She’s a governor or she’s a some some politician.

Sam [00:14:42]:
Oh, of course.

Chris [00:14:42]:
I saw a clip of her in the interview. She goes, well, we can’t there is a possibility that, that it’s an alien. So we we we can’t take that off the table.

Sam [00:14:53]:
Of course. I’m glad they lead with that.

Chris [00:14:54]:
But if it’s not, it it could be an Iranian drone or or a Chinese drone, and they could be looking for, testing for nuclear material and looking for a lost missile. What is that supposed to mean?

Sam [00:15:11]:
I I would have loved it if they just said a random country.

Chris [00:15:14]:
Then there was this

Sam [00:15:15]:
New Zealand drone. Then there

Chris [00:15:18]:
was this congressional guy, and he took video because he lives in that district.

Sam [00:15:22]:
He goes,

Chris [00:15:23]:
I saw this in the sky. And he took a video of

Sam [00:15:26]:
it, but he

Chris [00:15:26]:
was like, I don’t know what it is. I don’t know what it is.

Sam [00:15:29]:
Like a terrible photo video?

Chris [00:15:30]:
It’s pretty bad. And but the the Snopes or whatever brought it up and goes, that’s Orion’s belt.

Sam [00:15:38]:
Oh, come on. Come on. Some stars.

Chris [00:15:40]:
Three stars from Orion’s belt. It’s like, this this is a congressman. For god’s sake. And then there was I saw there’s been loads of them because they’re losing their minds over there.

Sam [00:15:52]:
But more and more people must be flying there.

Chris [00:15:53]:
Well, yeah, that’s the thing. Oh, there’s a drone up there. We should put ours up to have a look. Everybody’s got their freaking drones up there. It’s you buy a drone for $40 over there. What do I expect? And it’s not hurt anyone. Nobody’s been killed or injured by a drone so far, so I don’t know why they’re losing their money.

Sam [00:16:14]:
You wouldn’t have seen the South Park episode with the drones. No. Okay. They had police drones, and then the the the locals got more drones. And then there’s just drones following the drones around, and it’s a whole thing. And it just seems to be, very similar to this.

Chris [00:16:27]:
Yeah. That’s sad.

Sam [00:16:28]:
So at the end of the day Exactly. There’s no answer to what’s happening?

Chris [00:16:31]:
No. Okay. And and, the Trump’s, like, throwing gasoline on the fire. The government knows what’s going on. They should tell us. They should tell us what’s going on. Just to to stir. And then this Doug Mastriano, who’s, he’s a state senator.

Chris [00:16:48]:
He’s posted this video on this photo and goes, somebody found a downed drone. It doesn’t look like it’s from this world.

Sam [00:16:58]:
Oh my gosh. It’s a x wing fighter on

Chris [00:17:00]:
the back Tie fighter.

Sam [00:17:01]:
Tie fighter. Yeah. Sorry. Tie fighter on the back of a truck. So it’s obviously on

Chris [00:17:04]:
the side. How long ago that photo was taken. It’s probably been taken off the Internet. It’s, like, probably 20 years older.

Sam [00:17:10]:
So someone sees him that photo? Yeah.

Chris [00:17:12]:
He he’s found it, and he goes, oh, look at this. It’s a drone that’s been found. Like, it’s a prop from a movie, you goober. Anyway anyway, I’m glad our our politicians are way smarter. Sorry. Did I say way? Somewhat smarter than American politicians.

Sam [00:17:31]:
Yeah. No. I don’t get your salad on those guys. Hey. Talking about space and, things flying around, a while back, we talked about, and I think you brought it up, was SpinLaunch.

Chris [00:17:42]:
Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Sam [00:17:43]:
Well, they’ve just been doing their testing, of actually throwing a satellite into orbit.

Chris [00:17:49]:
Oh, nice. That’s it yeah. I still think that’s one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen.

Sam [00:17:54]:
Yeah. So it’s like a big cylinder with a tube on one end. That’s what it actually looks like. Yeah. And it spins super, super fast. Yeah. And so it span up to 10,000 g’s in the lab to prove that the spacecraft could actually just survive that. And they were like, yeah, these satellites or the little ones that they’re using are quite strong.

Sam [00:18:16]:
Yeah. So they partnered with the Portland State University’s open source cubesat program, that’s pretty cool, and, they made a few design adjustments notably, they rotated the battery cells so they acted as pillars supporting their own weight along the long axis which makes sense and, they used a bunch oh, this is getting right into it. They used if you want to know they used 6061 aluminum and 7075. Anyway, yeah, it could survive 10,000 g’s.

Chris [00:18:44]:
If you haven’t looked it up, check it out. It’s Spinlabs, Is

Sam [00:18:48]:
it Spinlaunch. Spinlaunch. Yeah. The website’s really cool.

Chris [00:18:50]:
Yeah. The website’s really cool, and it shows you how it does it. And as soon as you watch it, you go, oh, that’s really simple. Like, it’s not easy. Like, it’s very technically would be hard

Sam [00:19:00]:
to do. Concept is

Chris [00:19:01]:
just The concept’s real simple. You’re like, why didn’t anyone think of that before or try that before?

Sam [00:19:06]:
I don’t know.

Chris [00:19:06]:
It’s pretty cool. It I I really like it because it it doesn’t I think it’s a lot, cleaner way to do things. Anyway

Sam [00:19:13]:
And, also, when you’re flying oh, I I got this random message the other day from Ryan. Right? This dude my mate, Ryan. And he’s like, hey. I’m sending you something in the mail. I’m like, cool. Yeah. And then on his Facebook, he goes, we’re going away for holidays. I’m not back till 25th Jan.

Sam [00:19:33]:
Phones with, Caleb, who works for him. And then he rings me on some random number. He goes, oh, this is Tracy. My wife’s phone. I’m I’m I’m just I’m going to the airport. We’re off to the UK for a month a month and a a whole month. I’m like, okay. Random.

Sam [00:19:49]:
Anyway, that made me think about things. There’s a story that came out, and it says soda really does taste differently in the air when you’re flying, and they reckon ginger beer is, like, way, way better. So combined with the low air pressure and the dryness, it dulls your taste buds, messes with your odor receptors a little bit, and you have a decrease in sweet and salty flavor about 30%. I mean, these people that worked this out, yet again, scientists have got nothing better to do. Yeah.

Chris [00:20:20]:
But Yeah. Thanks for doing so of cancer and stuff.

Sam [00:20:22]:
It means that yeah. It means that the drink comes across sharper and more flavorful flavorful in the sky, and also tomato juice tastes way better. So if anyone wants to sponsor the Chris and Sam podcast, I don’t care where you wanna fly us to. We’ll do

Chris [00:20:38]:
some test it out.

Sam [00:20:38]:
Yeah. We’ll do some in-depth research.

Chris [00:20:40]:
Dubai’s a good good place to fly us to.

Sam [00:20:42]:
No. I’m thinking that’s like you you can go to Palmerston North.

Chris [00:20:47]:
Yeah. Yeah. I don’t think they fly that high.

Sam [00:20:49]:
No. That’s not that’s true. Trip to Palmerston North. That’s good. Palmerston North is out. Yeah. Good. We solved that problem.

Sam [00:20:55]:
Yeah. Because that is a problem.

Chris [00:20:57]:
Yeah. Some. Crispy. So yesterday, we had a bunch of the epic crew that I work for, meet up for a meeting, and we sort of had a Christmas party afterwards. And it’s the first time I’ve met a couple of those people. Like, we’ve we’ve been working together for a couple of years online. It’s first time physically I saw Moe from Christchurch and Crispy from Palmerston North. Those 2 had flown up, obviously, separately and and caught up and stuff.

Chris [00:21:24]:
And, Crispy had said what did he say? He’s like, you don’t have to worry about security or anything on the small planes with with Palmerston North.

Sam [00:21:37]:
No. No.

Chris [00:21:38]:
No. The regional flights, they still do security, like, from Christchurch and stuff.

Sam [00:21:41]:
Yeah. They sure do.

Chris [00:21:42]:
And he goes, yes. So, oh, that’s right. He says, we left early because the they knew how many people were there, and everyone was on board, so we left 10 minutes early. Good. And I’m like, yeah. That’s because, you know, they were all on board, and Palmerston was now empty. So they just took off.

Sam [00:22:00]:
It’s probably like, who’s gonna work today? No one.

Chris [00:22:05]:
I I I wrote I put this in a cup couple of weeks ago. I wanna say a couple of weeks ago. Maybe it was just last week, and never got to it. So I never mentioned it, but I’m gonna mention it now because some other stuff’s happened, which you probably heard about.

Sam [00:22:20]:
Okay.

Chris [00:22:20]:
So Anthem Insurance issued a new edit to kept anesthesia cover coverage at a time limit. So this is a health insurer in the States. You know, they have this screwed up health system, whatever you wanna call it.

Sam [00:22:35]:
That’s that’s what they want here. Yep.

Chris [00:22:36]:
Yep. Oh, duh. Yep. It’s the worst thing ever. So they’re saying, if you’re in mid surgery and you run out of anesthetic

Sam [00:22:44]:
How often does this happen?

Chris [00:22:46]:
Apparently, it happens a bit. Okay. Because often the doctors will start the surgery and go, oh, we found something else. We gotta do something else. So it’s longer, so you have to have more anesthetic. And they go, no. No. You were scheduled for for a 1 hour op.

Chris [00:23:00]:
If you’ve got a 1 and a half hour op, we’re not covering the rest of the anesthetic. So you either do the rest without anesthetic

Sam [00:23:06]:
They’ll bill the customer.

Chris [00:23:07]:
You for you pay for it. Well, it’s not like it’s their choice to have a longer op. Nobody really wants that. But, yeah, it was it was a big deal, and and all these other health insurance companies, yeah, that’s a good idea. We should all do that. And so then you heard about this guy getting killed. Right? No. Okay.

Chris [00:23:26]:
So that was a couple of days before, I believe, this CEO of a health insurance company.

Sam [00:23:36]:
Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That dude. Yeah. All the memes about the

Chris [00:23:38]:
Luigi Manzione

Sam [00:23:40]:
He was in his day. He was busy at work.

Chris [00:23:41]:
Walks in behind him and shoots him twice in the back, 2 or 3 times in the back, pop pop pop pop, and, kills him. And, or, actually, John Johnson Josh Johnson, I should say, Josh Johnson, the comedian, has just dropped a YouTube, stand up clip. It’s about a 20 minute clip on this. It’s absolutely hilarious. I highly recommend it. But, anyway yeah. And so all the pack all these, oh, and on the bullet casings, he’s got

Sam [00:24:15]:
Oh, yeah.

Chris [00:24:15]:
3 words Yeah. Written in that we we was with things that the health insurers always tell you when when you don’t get health insurance.

Sam [00:24:23]:
Yeah.

Chris [00:24:23]:
But did you realize Luigi Mangione or whatever his name is is extremely wealthy.

Sam [00:24:30]:
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Chris [00:24:31]:
Yeah. I heard that. It’s it’s it’s a really weird story. I’m sure there’s gonna be a huge TV doco and all that stuff.

Sam [00:24:38]:
Oh, yeah. There is. There’s already people that are, like, thirsting over him, I think is the term.

Chris [00:24:43]:
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Because yeah. Again, refer to Josh Johnson’s thing. That’s really you’ll like it, actually. It’s really good. So, anyway, so I thought it was funny because I

Sam [00:24:53]:
the Internet, I’ll watch it.

Chris [00:24:54]:
I spotted this before that murder happened or at least before I heard about the murder. And then I I forgot I had it in here, and and then when I saw it today, I was like, oh, yeah. That’s, connected to all of that murder y stuff. But, yeah, all the all the other, CEOs of all these health insurance companies are all panicking and, like, and they’re all taking their LinkedIn profiles off and getting rid of it. You know, like, they’re all

Sam [00:25:15]:
I think they’re bringing out a 1 800 number for I don’t think this is legit. I’m not sure. I’m sure they this person was saying they’re bringing out a 1 800 number for CEOs to ring in New York if they’re feeling a bit scared. Because that that came after the school shooting that’s just happened. Yeah. Where they don’t really care about that.

Chris [00:25:34]:
Yeah. I know. I know. It’s again, refer you to that Josh Johnson, video.

Sam [00:25:40]:
Oh, very good. What’s the problem with calling for help?

Chris [00:25:44]:
I thought this was hilarious too. Where is it? Problem with calling for help. So this happened in was it Vietnam or Thailand or somewhere like that?

Sam [00:25:58]:
Yeah. Thailand minima my Minima. How do you say it?

Chris [00:26:02]:
Myanmar. Myanmar. Myanmar.

Sam [00:26:04]:
Yep. There we go.

Chris [00:26:05]:
Yeah. Myanmar border. Thailand Myanmar border. Yeah. So this guy fell into a 12 meter deep well.

Sam [00:26:12]:
Okay. As he do.

Chris [00:26:13]:
He’s a 22 year old, you know, getting water from the well, slips, falls in, whatever, and he yells for help. Yeah. But all you can hear from the top of this ghostly,

Sam [00:26:25]:
Oh my god.

Chris [00:26:27]:
And so all the villagers thought it was haunted and ran away and stayed away from the well, and he was in there for 3 days before somebody clicked and went, I haven’t seen what’s his name? Lou for a while. Where’s Lou? Oh, maybe that noise from the well is Lou, and maybe he’s yelling for help and not haunting us as a ghost. I mean I mean, what else are you gonna do? Of course, you’re gonna yell. Damn. So

Sam [00:26:58]:
it it plays into, like, how spiritual, I guess, these people are.

Chris [00:27:03]:
I yeah. Like, yeah.

Sam [00:27:05]:
Wouldn’t you? I don’t know. Like, the

Chris [00:27:06]:
because I suppose they’re sort of Buddhist, and they think everything has a soul, and there’s ghosts every you know,

Sam [00:27:11]:
you’re pretty sure the one person that goes, hang on. Let’s just see what’s going on. Yeah. Before bringing some weird ghost hunters. They would’ve been all over. Yeah.

Chris [00:27:19]:
Yeah. Yeah. Oh, no. It’s actually a guy. Well, he will be a ghost if we leave him long enough. I mean.

Sam [00:27:26]:
A little dehydrated ghost. Yeah.

Chris [00:27:28]:
Well, no. He’s got plenty to drink. He’s he’s in a well. He’s got plenty to drink.

Sam [00:27:34]:
Is it disused well? I don’t think there’s water.

Chris [00:27:36]:
Oh, really?

Sam [00:27:37]:
Yeah. I I think that was

Chris [00:27:38]:
the problem. Oh, okay. Yeah.

Sam [00:27:39]:
That makes sense.

Chris [00:27:39]:
That makes sense.

Sam [00:27:40]:
Because he it said it it’s weird because it said he was walking in the forest. He fell in it. They pulled him out. Took him 30 minutes to yank him out. They’re gonna he’s in hospital recovering, and then once he’s recovered, they’re gonna be questioning him about what exactly he was doing.

Chris [00:27:54]:
Well, yeah. It doesn’t sound like it had a cover.

Sam [00:27:57]:
No. No. But was he, trying to find drugs? Doing something else?

Chris [00:28:04]:
Taking a dump? I mean, just sees develop well.

Sam [00:28:07]:
Yeah. Yeah. He I don’t think he saw the well, but I think he might have been in an area that maybe was a bit questionable.

Chris [00:28:12]:
Oh, I see. I think this is the border.

Sam [00:28:14]:
Yeah. Yeah. So that’d be like, what? Were you trying to get across the border? Are you trying to smuggle stuff?

Chris [00:28:19]:
Yeah. True.

Sam [00:28:19]:
You know?

Chris [00:28:20]:
Okay. I didn’t obviously read it that much. I just like the whole ghost scary village itself.

Sam [00:28:27]:
That’s alright. That brings us to the end of the podcast, and I just realized that this is the Christmas episode of the Christmas Ann Podcast.

Chris [00:28:34]:
Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Sam [00:28:35]:
Yeah. Merry Christmas. Yes. Whenever you listen to this. So this will come out just before Christmas, I think. Close enough.

Chris [00:28:42]:
Yeah. Close enough. So we’re not back until the new year?

Sam [00:28:47]:
I don’t know. I’ll let you know. There may be a episode I don’t know.

Chris [00:28:51]:
Okay. That’s cool because I don’t know either. I’m I’m not going anywhere. I’m

Sam [00:28:54]:
No. You’re you’re you’re you’re good. We know where you are. You’re you’re here. Yeah. Yeah.

Chris [00:28:59]:
I’ve got 2 weeks off work, but I’m I’m staying here. So yeah.

Sam [00:29:02]:
I yeah. I too have 2 weeks off work, which is good, I think, different.

Chris [00:29:07]:
Yeah. Yeah. And the weather’s been fantastic, so we’ll see how that goes. And, apart from my, eating way too much of my Christmas function yesterday, because at this, meeting as well, there was just grazing stuff there all day, and and, yeah, we had breakfast, and we had dinner, and and I had a lot a couple of jugs of beer, and then, when I got jumped on the scales this morning, I’m like, oh, I’m a fat bastard again.

Sam [00:29:34]:
It doesn’t take much, says the man that got a giant box of Christmas, Chris there’s a Christmas favorites box.

Chris [00:29:45]:
Oh, right.

Sam [00:29:45]:
Has baubles in it and popping candy elves amongst other things, and I smashed a lot of that back in the last 2 days. And someone said this morning, 8:45 is not too early for chocolate as they’re eating chocolate. I’m like, I’m glad you said that.

Chris [00:30:02]:
That’s all.

Sam [00:30:03]:
Eating some more. Oh, and then some reason, a a whole box of cherries turned up from the South Island, So we got to eat all of those.

Chris [00:30:11]:
I I I had 2 punnets of strawberries today. Mhmm. It was, a a deal special one, and I I bought 3. I had one the other day, and I was like, oh, I better eat all those strawberries before they go off. So

Sam [00:30:23]:

Sam [00:30:51]:
Oh, yeah. Yeah. No. No. They are voice messages, but yeah. Yeah.

Chris [00:30:53]:
Yeah.

Sam [00:30:54]:
