Sam [00:00:21]:
Hello, and welcome to episode 512 of the Chris and Sam podcast. I’m Chris. And I’m Sam. Welcome along to 2025, first episode.

Chris [00:00:30]:
Yeah. Happy New Year’s.

Sam [00:00:31]:
Happy New Year.

Chris [00:00:32]:
That that was so loud in my headphones. I started head banging to the intro music, and you you didn’t even notice. You were busy on your phone, like

Sam [00:00:39]:
Yeah. It’s fine. It’s good. Yeah. Welcome back, everyone. So who knows what this year’s gonna bring?

Chris [00:00:47]:
Yeah. Yeah. Hopefully, hopefully, you all had a good, break. We’re gonna hear no doubt how our breaks went. Mine was pretty boring, to be honest. I didn’t get any work done. I had all these things I was going to get done. And I’m back at work on Monday and I got none of them done.

Chris [00:01:06]:
Like, virtually none of them were done. But that’s okay. I did all my expenses for the year Oh, okay. Up to date. So that’s cool. But that’s about the only thing I got done. I will say, we’ll go into what you got Yeah. Into in a bit.

Chris [00:01:20]:
But I I had a smashing crisp, New Year’s Eve. Okay. So I went to, cows for a barbecue. Yep. Like an afternoon, evening barbecue. And, I I went to the local, Foursquare. Earlier, I walked over to get some beers. Yeah.

Sam [00:01:36]:
Yeah. Okay.

Chris [00:01:37]:
And I had one of those reusable bags that I always carry with me.

Sam [00:01:42]:
Here we go.

Chris [00:01:42]:
And I put the beers in. And sure enough, I took 2 steps. Bags ripped open, dropped on the ground. It was a dozen ultra car, you know, the ultra extra, the carless one.

Sam [00:01:54]:
So you’re in the store still?

Chris [00:01:55]:
Yeah. Yeah. 2 steps away from the counter, smash on the ground. Crap. They they go and get a mop and stuff like that. And I’m like, what’s happening here? So at Gilmore’s, if that happens, we go go, don’t worry. Just grab another one. We’ll sort it out.

Sam [00:02:14]:
And But, technically, you paid for it.

Chris [00:02:16]:
Yeah. I paid for it. And I I put them in the bag. I packed the bag.

Sam [00:02:20]:
You’ve completed the contract.

Chris [00:02:22]:
It’s it’s all on me.

Sam [00:02:23]:
Yeah. Yeah.

Chris [00:02:24]:
Yeah. And but, again, at Gilmore’s, we would have gone, don’t worry about it. So that that works in our origin. And the boss sells it off at a dollar a bottle to the staff. Whatever. I say how many prices? It turns out 3. Obviously, I didn’t know that. So I went and got another one, and I brought it back.

Chris [00:02:43]:
And I’m like, am I paying for this? And then he said, yeah. I’m like, okay. Right. So I paid for a second dozen. And I went, well, if I’m paying for this, because they they grabbed the other one and stuck it in a bucket. Yeah. Because, you know, it’s pouring air out of it. And I’m like, if I’m if I’m paying for this, I’m gonna take all the ones that aren’t broken out of that.

Chris [00:03:03]:
Yeah. And he goes, yeah. And then the woman that was mopping up goes, because it was like she had a mop bucket and it’s a bucket.

Sam [00:03:10]:
So he

Chris [00:03:10]:
goes, you can take the bucket. So I took the bucket home with that and and some beers. And, yeah, I actually was turned that bucket this morning actually when I went to get some bread. But yeah. So that was my smashing story. But yeah. No. Cal’s Place was good.

Chris [00:03:23]:
I cycled over there. I, Hang on.

Sam [00:03:26]:
So you’re cycling over there what? 24 beers? Or did you take this?

Chris [00:03:29]:
I took a dozen. I so

Sam [00:03:31]:
I Okay.

Chris [00:03:32]:
I I walked to Foursquare.

Sam [00:03:34]:
Yeah. No. Get that.

Chris [00:03:34]:
Yeah. Yeah. So anyway yeah. So I I took a dozen to, Carl’s place. It was cool. It was good. I but I cycled over there and I hit the, the the camera, the GoPro y thing. Okay.

Chris [00:03:45]:
It’s not a GoPro. It’s a Suku. The Suku on the front of the bike.

Sam [00:03:50]:
The Chinese cameras on the bike.

Chris [00:03:52]:
Yeah. And, yeah. The funniest thing oh, because I still have it on, time lapse. I don’t even think about it. Oh, okay. I I do the morning doing workouts. I’ve been posting those on Facebook

Sam [00:04:02]:
every day. Yep. That’s something.

Chris [00:04:04]:
And, I, I I rode there. That’s cool. And I rode back. But you can definitely tell on the thing on the way back, I’m wobbling quite a lot.

Sam [00:04:14]:
What at what time did you ride back?

Chris [00:04:17]:
9:9 PM.

Sam [00:04:18]:
Well So yeah. You made it. So

Chris [00:04:20]:
Yeah.

Sam [00:04:20]:
I guess that’s a bonus.

Chris [00:04:22]:
I did a lot of, I I rode on the cycle way and and the footpath a lot. I wasn’t gonna

Sam [00:04:27]:
Oh, yeah. No. Totally. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That’s that’s the trick.

Chris [00:04:30]:
Yeah. That’s the trick. Anyway, that’s that is the sum total of my entire week or 2 weeks off or whatever it’s been.

Sam [00:04:37]:
Yeah. Yeah. It’s definitely great having a break. Work on Monday. Not sure how I feel about that, to be honest.

Chris [00:04:43]:
I know what you mean.

Sam [00:04:45]:
Christmas and New Year’s was pretty low key for us. But, Christmas day, we’re just hanging out at home. It’s all good. I got a ladder, so I’m pretty happy about that.

Chris [00:04:53]:
Oh, yeah. Did you get one of those fancy ones that can do different Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Sam [00:04:57]:
I got some ladder. Multi Yes. Whatever you call it.

Chris [00:04:59]:
Yes. I love those.

Sam [00:05:00]:
So it’s only about that tall. Yeah. But then it can fold out. Oh, it can make into 2 ladders.

Chris [00:05:04]:
Yeah. Yeah. Tash had 1. Alright. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Chris [00:05:09]:
And yeah. And that was so, so useful.

Sam [00:05:12]:
Yeah. Yeah. So super handy. So I got that. That was all good. And then, we realized, oh, there’s a whole bunch of dust on top of the ceiling fan thing we’ve got, which I swear is just held on with hopes and dreams. But I don’t at

Chris [00:05:28]:
some point, it’s gonna come through. You see some of those things. I don’t know about your one. You see some of those things and they’re hanging through, and you go, hey. Wait. Those screws have all coming loose. And it’s just hanging off the wire that’s holding the motor. It’s just wobbling around because the screws are all

Sam [00:05:44]:
I know.

Chris [00:05:44]:
Come out.

Sam [00:05:45]:
But I’m waiting for a, what’s the movie when they all die all the time? One

Chris [00:05:48]:
of those Final Destination.

Sam [00:05:50]:
Final Destination moment. Every time I see

Chris [00:05:51]:
it because it’s like this.

Sam [00:05:53]:
I don’t know. Anyway, so,

Chris [00:05:55]:
how hot am I? Am I hot enough to risk death?

Sam [00:05:58]:
Or Yeah. Exactly. So so I’m at top I’m on the I’m up my new ladder cleaning this top of this fan going

Chris [00:06:06]:
Did Sarah buy you the ladder? What? Did Sarah buy you the ladder?

Sam [00:06:10]:
Well, she says she did, but I actually just brought it cause it was a Black Friday deal. Alright. Because it was like $30 cheaper, but free shipping. And the shipping was always the thing that I didn’t want to pay for.

Chris [00:06:20]:
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Sam [00:06:21]:
Because it was like a huge chunk. Because it’s such a big, heavy thing. She had it delivered to her work and the caretaker there thought it was for him and had to go no no no. And then I think he was a bit sad about that.

Chris [00:06:35]:
And then at some I beguator to.

Sam [00:06:37]:
And then at some point, she told me she got it home from her work at I don’t know what what some day before she finished, hid it in the wardrobe downstairs, then somehow hid it upstairs in the other room, and then Christmas morning somehow brought it out and put it in front of the tree. So I was quite impressed by all of that because it

Chris [00:06:53]:
was there. That’s pretty impressive. Yeah. No. I I was I mentioned that because I’m like, I could just see her going, that fan that fan’s really pissing me off. What can I get, Sam, for Christmas? Let me see. No. Oh, a ladder.

Chris [00:07:05]:
No.

Sam [00:07:05]:
It was just because I was playing around with the ladder. But we get a knock on the door. Yeah. So that’s right. So it’s our neighbor, not Gary, the new neighbor on the other side who’s always doing renovations and stuff. Right. So on the right hand side, if you come up my driveway. Yeah.

Sam [00:07:21]:
And her name is I have no idea. Anyway, she’s like been there a little while and she goes, oh, hi. How’s it going? Oh, yeah. I just wanna say hi, rah rah rah. And she goes, oh, you know, so, she’s telling us the whole story basically and she’s like going on about stuff and I’m like, where is this going? So she basically, first person in her whole family to own a house. Lived in the Glenview area for 20 plus years. Moved in here. Her son’s there.

Sam [00:07:51]:
Her sister’s there during school term. And she goes, oh, I knocked out 3 walls on the house. And she’s like, oh, you should come have a look. It’d be way different to how it was before. And I was, I’ve never been there. Oh, were you not oh, had you never been over when the the other guys owned the house? I was like, no. And she goes, oh, okay. That won’t make much sense to you then.

Sam [00:08:12]:
I’m like, okay. And then she’s like, oh, we said something like, it wasn’t on the market really, was it? She’s just, nah. Like, the both of us had the same agent and we just did a deal. Like, they sold and I brought it and they didn’t even really have to advertise it. And I was like, oh, that’s pretty cool. And that was all good and then she’s talking about something and then she goes, oh, I said, yeah, like, she’s done all this work and I said, yeah, that’s cool. And, I said, oh, do you know they came and chopped up a whole bunch of meat in your garage once? And she goes, what? And I said, yeah, like, there was van loads of guys and they all turned up and they decked out that whole garage from floor to ceiling and tarps, brought in a meat band saw, and then we’re chopping meat all day, and then they took it all away. And she goes, what? She goes, I thought they’re like Muslims and and all this sort of stuff.

Sam [00:08:58]:
And I said, yeah, I think so. But I think it was halal meat and they were doing it. She goes, oh my gosh. That’s crazy. She goes, I’ve just carpeted it and all this. I’m like, okay,

Chris [00:09:06]:
yeah, yeah.

Sam [00:09:06]:
So then she goes, yeah.

Chris [00:09:09]:
This is riveting stuff. I know, I know, I’ll just yeah.

Sam [00:09:13]:
And I’m thinking, like, Sarah’s like, man, I knew we shouldn’t have opened the door. But I’m like on top of

Chris [00:09:19]:
a ladder, like, they can

Sam [00:09:20]:
see me.

Chris [00:09:21]:
I’m like anyway,

Sam [00:09:24]:
so she goes, oh, everyone’s coming around and I’ve just realized like yesterday or this morning, I guess, the pool liner of my swimming pool is ripped and broken, and the guy can’t come and fix it till after Christmas. Can the kids come over and use your pool later on today? Sometime. I’ll let you know. I was like, yeah. Okay. Cool. Whatever. Okay.

Sam [00:09:46]:
So that’s all good. And she comes over later, and she and when I say the whanau had turned up

Chris [00:09:51]:
How how old is this woman, roughly?

Sam [00:09:54]:
I think she’s probably younger than me.

Chris [00:09:55]:
Yeah. Okay.

Sam [00:09:57]:
Yeah. I don’t know. But yeah, I think there was an issue That’s

Chris [00:10:00]:
a ballsy move.

Sam [00:10:01]:
On a Christmas day.

Chris [00:10:02]:
I’m gonna go next door to the neighbor and say But

Sam [00:10:05]:
I’ve never spoken oh, she spoke to me once, and she knew my she remembered my name. She’s really good with names. I have no idea what she does for work. Yeah. I think it’s something from home maybe because she’s always there. I’m not sure.

Chris [00:10:14]:
Yeah.

Sam [00:10:15]:
But, yeah, I think there was maybe an extra 15 cars in the street. Oh. And I think we had, like, probably 20 something people in the pool.

Chris [00:10:25]:
Oh, really? When they

Sam [00:10:25]:
all turned out.

Chris [00:10:26]:
So that’d be the most that pool’s Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Since you’ve been there.

Sam [00:10:29]:
It’s still recovering now. Yeah. No. So, I think most of them were only there for maybe, I don’t know, whatever, but, 3 hours in total.

Chris [00:10:41]:
That’s quite a long time. On Christmas Day for people you don’t know. Yeah. Yeah.

Sam [00:10:45]:
Yeah. But it was all good. She came around a couple of days ago. She brought us a bottle of Gordon’s pink gin

Chris [00:10:51]:
Oh, nice.

Sam [00:10:52]:
And some chocolates. Because she was like, I was gonna get your wine, but she goes, wine just doesn’t cut it really. I need to get something harder. I don’t know. Fair enough.

Chris [00:10:59]:
Oh, that’s cool.

Sam [00:11:00]:
So she’s Would

Chris [00:11:00]:
would Sarah drink? Yeah. Yeah.

Sam [00:11:02]:
Yeah. I actually yeah. You loved it. Alright. So anyway, yeah, it was Christmas. New Year’s did nothing, which was great. Caught up on a bunch of different things, including trying to clean out our garage, which is half done, which is good.

Chris [00:11:13]:
Which just cracks me up because Sam Sam just arrived to my place to do this recording

Sam [00:11:18]:
Yeah.

Chris [00:11:18]:
And he gives me my school reports from, you know, as a kid, which my mom had put into a a folder for me back in the day. Yeah. Yeah. I was like, okay. I don’t know

Sam [00:11:29]:
where that came from. It was in a pile of stuff. Okay.

Chris [00:11:33]:
Yeah. And if you’re wondering why that was at Sam’s place, we fled it together and we moved out Yeah. Yeah. And yeah.

Sam [00:11:39]:
Alright. Have you seen this vanilla ice thing?

Chris [00:11:42]:
The the doco.

Sam [00:11:44]:
What’s the doco?

Chris [00:11:45]:
Oh, there’s a doco about him apparently. Somebody mentioned it at the or what am I thinking about milli milli vanilli? I’m not No.

Sam [00:11:53]:
You’re thinking milli vanilli.

Chris [00:11:54]:
Yeah. Because I always get those 2 mixed up. Sorry.

Sam [00:11:56]:
So it turns out millions of beers explode in New Zealand freezers every year.

Chris [00:12:00]:
I’ve seen the ad.

Sam [00:12:01]:
Yeah. What a great marketing thing. It’s brilliant. And it works. Like, you said

Chris [00:12:05]:
Oh, you tried it. I did I bought those beers and I thought, should I put a couple in the freezer and and text? So for those that are listening that don’t know, what’s his name?

Sam [00:12:16]:
Vanilla Ice.

Chris [00:12:17]:
Vanilla Ice is on TV, on He’s got a service.

Sam [00:12:20]:
I watch

Chris [00:12:21]:
it on the t TV ad on n zed TVNZ plus. And he and he basically says, this is a service. And he does it in a very vanilla ice way. But in basically, it’s like, if you put beers in the freezer, they will explode after 20 minutes or 30 minutes or something. Yeah. So text this number, and we’ll text you back when it’s time to get them out of the freezer. Yeah. So it’s an automated service, obviously.

Chris [00:12:45]:
Yeah. But it’s a brilliant, marketing campaign for that beer. But do you remember XSport? Oh, I was gonna say.

Sam [00:12:51]:
XSport Ultra.

Chris [00:12:52]:
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Which is the one thing Like,

Sam [00:12:53]:
he’s wearing a New Zealand flag.

Chris [00:12:55]:
Yeah.

Sam [00:12:55]:
Yeah. Yeah. So anyway, good on him.

Chris [00:12:58]:
And That is a that is a very clever, marketing campaign. I I I do like that. In fact, that reminds me of something I saw today, which I thought, oh, I’m gonna talk about about on the podcast. And I don’t know anything much about it. It’s a a LinkedIn post, as you can see. It’s just like thing. But I do think this is such a cool idea given that I don’t do Christmas. So Christmas day for me was gaming.

Chris [00:13:23]:
That’s all I did. I did get an invite to go around to Adam’s Place for was it Christmas Eve or Boxing Day? 1 or the other. I always forget. Before or after. I can’t remember now. And and hang out with, a bunch of people. But I was just like, that’s too many kids. Oh, it it was it’s

Sam [00:13:43]:
just literally the noise as well. Yeah. I I know they were in my pool.

Chris [00:13:47]:
I did. I I Not them, but I couldn’t handle too many people. Like, I wanna chill at that time of the year. So that which is fine. So I sort of declined. But anyway, basically, I just played computer games. But 2 entrepreneurs started a side hustle, renting Christmas trees to reduce the number that end in landfill. So every January, they take the tree back from you.

Chris [00:14:10]:
They replant it so it continues growing, and then you can rent it again the next Christmas.

Sam [00:14:17]:
So this isn’t this isn’t new and I’ve got a feeling we may have spoken about this 3 years ago.

Chris [00:14:23]:
Oh, really? And then when your tree hits 7 foot tall Yeah. It’s retired and planted back in this forest.

Sam [00:14:28]:
I reckon the tree’s gonna be munted, to be honest. I just don’t know about how much they like to be replanted like that. Like, it’s going to be a subpar pine tree at best.

Chris [00:14:39]:
But You don’t have limited roots.

Sam [00:14:41]:
Well, it’d probably just topple over eventually. But yeah. I don’t know if this is a different crowd from the one I’ve heard of before or not.

Chris [00:14:49]:
I don’t recall hearing that one before. I might be wrong. But,

Sam [00:14:53]:
I No. No. It’s it’s an interesting idea. I think where are those guys based? Because I think they were doing it in the UK.

Chris [00:14:58]:
Doesn’t say. And I think that’s UK. Looking at the houses in the background, it looks very much more UK ish than New Zealand.

Sam [00:15:05]:
Talking about playing games, I’ve been playing the Kiwi developed game Dredge. Been puttering around on a little boat.

Chris [00:15:11]:
Was that the oh, you sent me that. Yeah. I know. And I never did anything with it because it was something to do with fishing or something. I was like, I don’t wanna know. There you go, Audrey. If you listen to this fishing, she loves her fishing. It’s it’s

Sam [00:15:24]:
it’s a boat game, but it’s not die hard fishing. You’ve got to go and sell stuff. It’s quite relaxing.

Chris [00:15:31]:
Oh, okay.

Sam [00:15:31]:
And there’s some sort of supernatural element. I don’t know what it is. So, like, at nighttime, there’s all this red, like, mist and stuff and this eyeball thing I found. Anyway, you upgrade the boat. You go fishing to get the money to pay for different things. You gotta visit all these people on little islands. Yeah. Dredge.

Chris [00:15:51]:
Cool. Okay. Alright. Do you want to kick

Sam [00:15:55]:
start or drop kick start the year?

Chris [00:15:56]:
Yeah. Let’s do that.

Sam [00:15:57]:
Cool. I don’t I I I, saved these last year. And, one of them I can remember and the other one I have no idea. So there’s a thing called the adapt adaptula? Adaptula. Yep. And the not a drip. Don’t worry about not a drip. We’re going to just talk about the adaptula.

Sam [00:16:14]:
It’s a fancy looking spatula, if that makes sense. And, 16 days to go, they wanted, they want $8,900 is what they wanted.

Chris [00:16:27]:
Okay.

Sam [00:16:27]:
That’s what I’m gonna start with. And it’s like a flat plate spatula made of nonstick material and there’s 2 different sizes. Oh. They’re flat. Yep.

Chris [00:16:38]:
Okay. But it

Sam [00:16:38]:
comes with a handle that can, adjust. And it can adjust to 7 different angles, and you’re like, okay. So you can, like, sort of it depends on what you’re cooking and how you want to pick something up.

Chris [00:16:53]:
Oh, I see.

Sam [00:16:54]:
So I don’t know. Like, and you can do that. So it can reach on the side because the handle comes off on a funny angle.

Chris [00:17:02]:
Oh, yeah. Yeah.

Sam [00:17:02]:
You can scrape the whole edge of a frying pan or a pot.

Chris [00:17:05]:
I do like being able to scrape the bottom of the wok.

Sam [00:17:08]:
So like, there we go. There’s an air fryer if you’ve got to draw 1 and it’s like Yeah. Picking up stuff. So it’s sort of like a multi use angled spatula, if that makes sense. You’ve got 16 days to go anyway. They wanted 8,900. How much do you think they’ve made?

Chris [00:17:25]:
I reckon so this is my hot take. The, that cooking cookware

Sam [00:17:32]:
Segment.

Chris [00:17:32]:
Segment of market Oh. Is huge. They are passionate about their stuff. And I can see how that’d be useful with my limited kitchen abilities. Right? I was in the kitchen all the time. Yeah. Yeah. I’d be into that.

Chris [00:17:46]:
So I reckon they’ve done over a 100,000 on that. Easy.

Sam [00:17:49]:
$237,000.

Chris [00:17:52]:
Wow. Good on them.

Sam [00:17:53]:
So that’s that thing. And, yeah. We’ll have a link to it. Check it out. You’ve got by the time you hear this, this year, right now, you’ll have, like, 14, 15 days to go. So you can actually get one if you want.

Chris [00:18:06]:
It looks good. I mean, I I don’t use it. I I don’t have enough use for it. Although yeah. I use the fish slice every day now with my air fryer. I use the air fryer pretty much every day.

Sam [00:18:18]:
I forgot to tell you how much it costs. So you can get one of them for 25 US, which is around 45 New Zealand dollars. You get one handle, one small blade, and one large blade. You can get black or blue, plus you do have to pay for shipping. And then they’ve got this thing called not a drip, which is just a drip tray. There’s nothing.

Chris [00:18:40]:
That goes with it. Yeah.

Sam [00:18:41]:
So talk about that.

Chris [00:18:43]:
Do they have a bundle where you buy a few? Because it it almost makes sense. If you’re in New Zealand or any other country other than in States, it almost makes sense to buy 5 of them and split them out between your friends. It’ll be cheaper. You know what I mean?

Sam [00:18:58]:
Yeah. Probably. You get 2 for $81, 3 for a 107 New Zealand dollars. So it gets what? Down 30 something. Yeah. Maybe.

Chris [00:19:08]:
I don’t know. Yep. Anyway, just a thought.

Sam [00:19:11]:
So that’s one of them. And the other one is called Mufe, m u f e e. I have to look at it. I have no idea what it is.

Chris [00:19:21]:
Not another lawnmower.

Sam [00:19:23]:
Oh, okay. No. This this they this one I’ll start with, they only want 1780 New Zealand dollars. Right? Okay.

Chris [00:19:31]:
New Zealand dollars. Okay. Yeah. Like there’s Oh, yeah. That’s right.

Sam [00:19:34]:
You know, they start really low now. Like ridiculously low. Like they only need like 2 people to pledge. Anyway, it’s Muphy, the home smart essential oil and infusion oil maker. So it’s this giant looking contraption. That is huge. It’s it it looks like It looks

Chris [00:19:54]:
like the size of 2 soda streams.

Sam [00:19:56]:
Yeah. That’s exactly what it looks like. And I think you can jam in your own, herbs and oils and crap. This thing compresses it down.

Chris [00:20:06]:
So you actually get the, like, the leafy Yeah. Look. Stuff. Oh, yeah. They got the rosemary there. Yeah. So you throw that in there and it goes

Sam [00:20:15]:
I’m assuming it’s a really loud have you ever seen The Simpsons back in the day and they had the juice extractor?

Chris [00:20:22]:
No. No.

Sam [00:20:22]:
Oh, and he goes, you just all you need is this whole bag of oranges he puts in this machine and it’s like it’s like so loud. He goes, oh my god. It’s whisper quiet. And he goes, you mean I get those like this like a little tiny bit of juice out of a whole bag of oranges? Yes. It’s amazing. Anyway, yes. So this thing, few simple steps. You create your own essential oils.

Sam [00:20:44]:
You set it and forget it. And when you forget it, there’s a picture of someone doing some yoga that is beyond

Chris [00:20:50]:
It’s got nothing to do with it.

Sam [00:20:54]:
Yeah. So this thing, you add some water, 80 to 85 degrees. Steam is formed, deposits, gets, liquefied, put into a little, container at the bottom.

Chris [00:21:07]:
Actually, the yoga thing’s pretty clever because that’s talking to their client. That’s their avatar. That really is.

Sam [00:21:15]:
Because I don’t know what the alternative to this is. Like,

Chris [00:21:19]:
you you just buy the oils or you what’s that, network marketing one that does the oils? Oh, this chick I used to have as a coach. He used to do

Sam [00:21:29]:
it. Yeah. But some I don’t know what the the people that are making the oils, what are they using?

Chris [00:21:34]:
Yeah. I assume it’s like a a a a proper press. Like a a proper press.

Sam [00:21:41]:
So I don’t know.

Chris [00:21:41]:
Commercial press.

Sam [00:21:42]:
So I don’t know, like, like I’ll tell you what, though. This is super popular. They wanted $1700. This has raised already $850,000, and it still got 31 days to go. Wow. So I don’t know if this I mean, in theory, this does work and it makes sense. It’s not like that stupid remember that you get the the the packet of juice extract and you put it in the machine and then it pushed it out and people were like, what? I can get more juice just by using my fingers? I’m

Chris [00:22:12]:
like, no.

Sam [00:22:13]:
No. No. No. No. You’ve gotta put the packet in the machine. I can’t remember what that was called.

Chris [00:22:16]:
I remember the one. Yeah.

Sam [00:22:17]:
That was a rip up. Total anyway

Chris [00:22:19]:
That flopped. That flopped.

Sam [00:22:20]:
It was kick start or drop kick to start strong.

Chris [00:22:22]:
That’s cool. And I gotta say too, they’re not stupid. They’ve picked a market that has money. People that are into essential oils and yoga Oh. Can afford that shit.

Sam [00:22:33]:
Before Christmas, I found myself inside the gem and crystal shop on, Anglesey Street twice, Chris. Twice.

Chris [00:22:49]:
How do you get lost twice?

Sam [00:22:51]:
We had to get gifts for specific people and thought that was a good spot. And the amount of people coming in that will get me excited over stuff, next level. And I’m just now my other story, related to that was a couple of years ago, I was in Christchurch and before you go into where the Riverside Mall is where all that food is? Yeah. Yeah.

Chris [00:23:12]:
I remember.

Sam [00:23:13]:
Down the alleyway there’s a gem and crystal shop in there. Right? Went in there once. It was absolutely packed and the guy standing in the corner who must have been the owner could not have the biggest smile on his face. Because I don’t know what the markup is on these rocks and gems, but man this guy was buying a new house or a car or something.

Chris [00:23:32]:
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Oh my god. That’s hilarious.

Sam [00:23:36]:
So anyway Mark up on rocks. Hey. They’re polished rocks.

Chris [00:23:40]:
Yeah. Yeah.

Sam [00:23:40]:
Yeah. And they’ve got magical abilities. Yeah. Or spiritual abilities. They tell you. It’s like, anyway, this Google Streetcar solves of murder. Yeah. I’ve seen 2 different photos and I don’t know if it’s 2 different stories or if it’s the one story.

Sam [00:23:57]:
Do we know?

Chris [00:23:58]:
I don’t know. And I I this was from last year, so I haven’t looked at it for a while. But apparently oh god. Now it’s giving me

Sam [00:24:06]:
So this is the one where they’ve got the red car and the guy’s bent over. It looks like he’s jamming a wrapped body into the boot. Yeah. I saw one where someone was literally carrying a wrapped body down the street. So I don’t know if it’s the same guy.

Chris [00:24:19]:
Probably is actually. And I I probably would say that most, news agencies would wouldn’t show a photo of somebody carrying a dead body.

Sam [00:24:30]:
True. True.

Chris [00:24:32]:
So that might be why they chose this photo. Because, you know, the Google vehicle is a street vehicle caught the image or Yeah. A couple of images by the sounds of it. Because they take loads. Right? That’s just going to to to to Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. All the time.

Chris [00:24:46]:
Or maybe it’s a video and they I don’t know how it works. But yeah. So basically, and where was this in Spain?

Sam [00:24:53]:
Yeah. Yeah. And it solved the crime.

Chris [00:24:55]:
Yeah. Yeah. Because they this person had disappeared. And so they went through all sorts of stuff. And what I don’t know is whether they found out that a Google vehicle was there and then asked for the footage or whether Google had found somebody there found some photos and went, hey. You guys might need to look at this. You know?

Sam [00:25:13]:
It yeah. It says here they started investigating more than a year ago.

Chris [00:25:20]:
After a long period of investigation, a strange coincidence set off alarm bills. There’s Google Street View image of a man putting a bulky white plastic bag in the boot of a car. Oh, so it actually got published before they found it.

Sam [00:25:33]:
Yeah. It was on Google Street View. So I just think somebody must have been looking at the Police

Chris [00:25:38]:
owners discovered who the car belonged to and tapped the suspect’s phone. They found out that he lived with the Cuban wife of the missing man. After months of listening to the couple’s conversations, both were arrested and charged in connection with the crime. Excellent. Oh my god. So I didn’t realize it was just off street view freaking oh my god. That’s hilarious.

Sam [00:26:03]:
Yeah. No. It’s crazy. I haven’t seen a Google car in so long, though. I used to see them every now and then. Yeah.

Chris [00:26:08]:
I haven’t seen them in a while. There’s a lot of road changes, though. We we went up to, to Auckland. We talked about that on

Sam [00:26:20]:
the plane.

Chris [00:26:20]:
I’d say. And we took off and we had road closures and it turned us around and we ended up heading back to Hamilton.

Sam [00:26:27]:
Oh, that’s right.

Chris [00:26:28]:
Putting That’s right. Putting kilometers to Hamilton. What what the hell is going on? And then you got put back out on some off roads and stuff.

Sam [00:26:34]:
Talking about driving around randomly, have you heard of the game getting lost? No. Okay. So this Kiwi couple, a while ago, they set up a company called Getting Lost Travel, I think it’s called, and they have this little deck of cards and originally it came in a little 3 d printed suitcase and basically you just No.

Chris [00:26:56]:
You might have mentioned this before.

Sam [00:26:58]:
Yeah. Maybe. But basically, yeah. So you follow the cards and you just go where they tell you and you have a little excursion.

Chris [00:27:05]:
Yeah. So it gives you a little adventure to do or a little challenge.

Sam [00:27:09]:
So since then, they have so many different versions. There’s a version for dads. There’s a version for grandparents. There’s a version for photographers. There’s a version for walking. They literally can think of an idea every single day probably and just make a brand new version.

Chris [00:27:24]:
Brilliant. The the little It’s like a Trivial Pursuit. Yeah. You just do a 100 different things.

Sam [00:27:29]:
Pretty much. And it’s all like within a theme. So I think, you have to now pay for the little suitcase extra if you want it. If you want to pay them a ton of money, they will make you a custom one for you. I don’t know what that would entail, but that’s an option. So check out Getting Lost.

Chris [00:27:45]:
They should be selling that to, the competitor of, DB export ultra as a Maybe. As a yeah.

Sam [00:27:57]:
So so Sarah’s had a deck since 2020, and we did it yesterday. And I we ended up You

Chris [00:28:03]:
said it the first

Sam [00:28:03]:
time? Yes. And the first card is get on the motorway. I’m like, okay. And the second card was a bit I didn’t really want to drive to Auckland. So we we we turned off it earlier because it was like the 3rd exit with a, uneven number. Take that. And I was like, none of the exits on the Hamilton really have numbers until we get to Auckland? Yeah. So anyway, ended up in Rangarere, Merri Merri, all around there and then Morrinsville and then, oh, and you keep going till you get a card that says, okay, go home.

Sam [00:28:40]:
So yeah, ended up in Morrinsville and then after that went to the, berry farm randomly to go pick some berries. Now that’s, if you’ve got the land between that and the sunflower place up at Taupori, they just must be creaming it. I reckon the sunflower place is the best thing they have that these people have ever done. So the berries, it’s $5 to get in each person just to pick berries and then you pay for how much you’ve picked.

Chris [00:29:08]:
You pay as well for how much you picked?

Sam [00:29:10]:
Yes. Like I knew we had to pay for what we picked. The $5 fee to get in was a bit of a surprise to me.

Chris [00:29:18]:
But You should call it parking fee.

Sam [00:29:20]:
Well, they give you a bucket and well, in theory, the $5 I think covers the amount that you’re eating. Because you could go in

Chris [00:29:28]:
That’s true. Yeah. Like I didn’t even see that.

Sam [00:29:31]:
There was people there smashing stuff back.

Chris [00:29:33]:
Yeah. Yeah.

Sam [00:29:33]:
So anyway, that was all good. Not a problem. The sunflower people, they must be doing okay because they’ve got a sign written sunflower ute now. And it’s an old farm, and I think at some point they’re like, let’s just plant sunflowers. So they plant

Chris [00:29:46]:
Do they do they use them for oil and stuff like that?

Sam [00:29:50]:
I don’t know about that. I do know they charge you 5 or $10 or whatever it is just to go in, wander around, take a photo with them. Oh, it might be like $5 to get in, take a photo, and then they give you a pair of secateurs. And if you find one that you’d like, I think they’re like 5 or $10 each. They’re really big. Like Yeah. But yeah. And they just must be raking in money.

Sam [00:30:13]:
And it’s only because you got the land. Like, it’s pretty good.

Chris [00:30:16]:
Yeah. Yeah.

Sam [00:30:17]:
Anyway, that brings us into the podcast. We’ve raced through it.

Chris [00:30:21]:
So, before we finish up, any, New Year’s resolutions or anything?

Sam [00:30:25]:
No. Stay alive.

Chris [00:30:28]:
I’m I’m I’m going to continue on with my dawn workouts. I’ve got a holiday coming up, in a couple of weeks. I’m going to just for a weekend down to Wellington. So,

Sam [00:30:39]:
I look forward to hearing stories about that. Last time you went down there, you lost your car.

Chris [00:30:45]:
Somebody lost their arm.

Sam [00:30:46]:
Yeah. Very good. Okay. Till next time. I’m Sam.

Chris [00:30:51]:
I’m Chris.

Sam [00:30:51]:
See you.

Chris [00:30:52]:
Bye.
