Chris [00:00:06]:
Welcome to the Chris and Sam podcast. Pull up a bar story and join us for a written conversation guaranteed to make you think or your money back. Hello, and welcome to episode 516 of the Chris and Sam podcast.

Chris [00:00:26]:
I’m Chris.

Chris [00:00:26]:
And I’m Sam. Welcome along to your weekly fix of randomness, technology and life, brought to you by the power of grayskull. I don’t know.

Chris [00:00:34]:
The power of 8.6 black. Okay. Beer.

Chris [00:00:38]:
That’s no. That’s you. That’s you. Quick shout out. Jamie Oxley was messaging me the other day. He’s, I think, one episode behind driving his truck across, Australia. Loving the podcast. And, he’s never heard of that random rule at a bar in his life that you dealt with a couple of weeks ago.

Chris [00:00:58]:
Oh, no. Nobody has. It’s it was made up. They made it up, man. That’s the dumbest thing I’ve and I’ve worked in a bunch of bars around the world, and I’ve never heard of that stuff.

Chris [00:01:07]:
And not to get you all too excited, but he may be misunderstanding your ability at animating things because he wanted the story at the university when you came across that guy. Because he thought you were gonna bust out some moves on this guy and beat him up. But he would like that is an animated thing, he tells me.

Chris [00:01:31]:
I’m totally don’t know what you mean now. Animated what?

Chris [00:01:35]:
The story of you dealing with

Chris [00:01:38]:
Oh, he wants that animated. Yes. But that wasn’t even that in interesting.

Chris [00:01:41]:
I know. But I think he misunderstands your ability at animation.

Chris [00:01:46]:
And he wants me to do a fight scene. Maybe. I’m not sure. Of greyscale.

Chris [00:01:52]:
I’m not too sure. I’m not too sure.

Chris [00:01:55]:
Actually, funny enough, I’ve just been doing some animation. Even though Adam had said that that was an abomination, which he burned me.

Chris [00:02:03]:
Last time you didn’t mention him. You just said a listener.

Chris [00:02:06]:
I know, but I’ve spoken to him since.

Chris [00:02:08]:
So anyway. Did he give you more constructive feedback?

Chris [00:02:11]:
No. No. No. He just

Chris [00:02:13]:
said it was an abomination.

Chris [00:02:16]:
Good. So anyway, since that, I have managed to sell my my animation skills through epic learning to our clients, and we’re using that in some, frame videos. Something way more complicated, Yeah. Yeah. And these are explainer videos. Yeah.

Chris [00:02:33]:
Oh, that’s good.

Chris [00:02:33]:
For for something. So and it and you don’t want the character there very much. They’re only there for so the whole video is, like, 30 second long.

Chris [00:02:41]:
Oh,

Chris [00:02:41]:
sweet. And the the characters in there for the

Chris [00:02:43]:
last 2 years. Are you using a character that looks like you? No. No. Okay.

Chris [00:02:46]:
I’m I’m trying to use one that looks a little bit like the voice that that’s supplying, which I haven’t heard yet. So I’ve got a standing character that I sent through, and they’re happy with it. Oh,

Chris [00:02:56]:
excellent.

Chris [00:02:57]:
We’ll see how we go.

Chris [00:02:58]:
Anything else exciting happening this week that you’ve been doing?

Chris [00:03:01]:
Just I am stressing. I’ve got so much work going on, and then I’m off tomorrow to Wellington. I have a 9 hour 20 minute bus ride down to Wellington.

Chris [00:03:10]:
What’s the plan for a 9 hour and 20 odd minute?

Chris [00:03:14]:
At this point, if I hadn’t had that beer earlier, which was probably a bad idea, but I’d sort of hit the wall so I had a beer just before you came, and then I went, oh, I gotta sleep. I I was gonna work all night because I’ve got so much work to do for Epic, and then sleep in the bus on the way down.

Chris [00:03:32]:
So having this time off is a bit problematic. Oh, when are you back?

Chris [00:03:37]:
I the bus drive back is only 8 hours, and that’s on Monday.

Chris [00:03:40]:
Oh, nice.

Chris [00:03:41]:
Yeah. So I’ll be back at work on Tuesday. Yes. So it should be good anyway. I am stressed as well just because I’m gonna end up seeing my family.

Chris [00:03:51]:
Yeah. Yeah. It’s not it’s different. Or you haven’t seen them in a while?

Chris [00:03:54]:
No. I haven’t seen them in a while.

Chris [00:03:56]:
And some of them may have heard you recently. I’m not sure if they’re all listening to this.

Chris [00:04:00]:
Yeah. Well, I’m pretty sure Liam still listens to many of the episodes, and he should be there. Excellent. Daughter because I haven’t seen his daughter ever since, you know

Chris [00:04:09]:
Make sure to take some photos. I oh, yeah. I will. Because you’ll forget.

Chris [00:04:13]:
I’ll forget. I totally will forget. And then, and then the next day, I’m meeting all these guys that I haven’t seen for god knows how long. Well, since the last funeral, basically. But, you know, from the karate day.

Chris [00:04:26]:
That’s gonna be interesting, isn’t it?

Chris [00:04:28]:
Yes. That’ll be interesting. And, I am taking my gi down there. So, I might end up putting it on, but I am not stepping in a ring.

Chris [00:04:36]:
What what is actually happening?

Chris [00:04:37]:
It’s the Nationals tournament.

Chris [00:04:38]:
Okay. So National tournament, can people can you just turn up and wear it, like, to show support?

Chris [00:04:44]:
No. No. Not really.

Chris [00:04:46]:
Oh,

Chris [00:04:46]:
okay. And and I don’t think I’d be wearing it at that event. But yeah. I I I it’s just, traditional. We just take it with you. You never know what’s gonna happen.

Chris [00:04:55]:
Oh, yeah. Okay. Cool.

Chris [00:04:55]:
It’ll be in in the bag. But, I will be buying one of the t shirts to show my support, but it’s open to the public. So, if you’re in Wellington when you hear this, there’s probably still time to get to Porirua. If if you’re listening to this on the morning the podcast comes out Yeah. There might be still time to get to Pororua, at the, big arena there and see the Kyokushin National Tournament.

Chris [00:05:19]:
And if you’re in Hamilton and you’re listening to this first thing Sunday morning, you may still have time to go check out the Manu World Champs. Hamilton Heats, I think.

Chris [00:05:29]:
Is that in Raglan? Or

Chris [00:05:30]:
No. No. I think it’s just at Waterworld.

Chris [00:05:33]:
Oh, Waterworld. Okay.

Chris [00:05:35]:
I have not researched this at all. I keep meaning to mention this for the last, like, 4 or 5 weeks because I keep seeing the the poster everywhere. This is to get Do

Chris [00:05:44]:
you wanna explain what a manu is for people that aren’t from Hamilton?

Chris [00:05:48]:
Well I was

Chris [00:05:48]:
gonna say aren’t from New Zealand, but I’d never heard of it till I moved to Hamilton.

Chris [00:05:52]:
Oh, no. It’s definitely a it’s a New Zealand thing.

Chris [00:05:55]:
Yeah. Not in Wellington.

Chris [00:05:57]:
It is because they do it off the wharf and

Chris [00:06:00]:
that Never called it a manu. Not when I was a kid.

Chris [00:06:03]:
Well, it’s a bomb. Yeah.

Chris [00:06:05]:
A bomb.

Chris [00:06:05]:
Yeah. Okay. Okay. Anyway

Chris [00:06:07]:
For those that don’t know what a bomb is from overseas, it would explain it.

Chris [00:06:11]:
It’s when you jump in a pool and it’s just Like a cannonball. Like

Chris [00:06:16]:
Yeah. You cannonball. You try and make as big a splash as you possibly can. So usually that means curling up or hitting butt first with your knees tucked up so it captures some air and then creates a bit of a a back pressure blast. So yeah.

Chris [00:06:31]:
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So they’ve got the super qualifier, 1st and second of Feb. And, Zed is sponsoring this, the petrol company here in New Zealand, up to $40,000 in prizes. They’re trying to get the I think it’s the top 20 people from Hamilton to then go to the finals in Auckland.

Chris [00:06:50]:
Nice. So if they’ve been doing regional around the

Chris [00:06:53]:
Yeah. Yeah. All over the place. Apparently, there’s 2

Chris [00:06:56]:
It’s probably a good sponsorship deal for for Zedd, actually.

Chris [00:07:00]:
Possibly. They

Chris [00:07:00]:
would have got a lot of people out.

Chris [00:07:01]:
This isn’t the 1st year it’s happened. It happened last year, and I think I forgot to talk about it then. Apparently, there’s 2 divisions, freestyle and manu. So it’s just I like if they’re doing it well, it’ll just be a lot of fun of just randos jumping into a pool Yeah. And they’ll be like, here’s a free coffee voucher or whatever. I don’t know.

Chris [00:07:20]:
Yeah. I mean, if it’s, sponsoring, it will be in a pool. Because I was thinking it would be off a off a bridge or off a wharf or off a you know what I mean? And I’m pretty sure the ones in Wellington used to be well, we used to do it at the, or not me, but lots of people did it.

Chris [00:07:35]:
You’re standing in the corner of the ocean?

Chris [00:07:36]:
One of our guy one of our mates, Marty, did it a few times at the Wellington Sevens. So you’re being in fancy dress Yes. Doing your pub crawl towards the arena. And then there was 1 or 2 places where there’s a pub just overlooking this on the wharf overlooking the water, and people would just be diving off. Yeah. It was good fun.

Chris [00:07:56]:
So it’s a bit interesting. Let’s see if a Hamilton local can take out the national. Yeah. I don’t know if we’re gonna hear about it. Who knows? This other thing that I thought interesting, you were talking about we were talking about taking photos of when you’re down in, Wellington. Yeah. There’s a camera that used to be out called Wide Lux. It’s a film camera.

Chris [00:08:16]:
Okay.

Chris [00:08:16]:
And it’s quite it’s a little bit bigger than a, disposable camera. Yeah. And it doesn’t really have a lens as such. It has half a round barrel on the front, and that barrel, when you press down on it, rotates around really quickly. And what it does is it takes a very panoramic image, and I think they’re only made up until the 19 eighties.

Chris [00:08:37]:
Right.

Chris [00:08:37]:
Around about 20 years or so. The photos are pretty cool because it’s like really wide, image, but there’s no big lens sticking out. It’s just this little hump that rotates around. Now Jeff Bridges, the actor Yeah. Is a very good photographer.

Chris [00:08:53]:
Oh, really?

Chris [00:08:54]:
Oh. And he loves this camera. And he’s got, like, a book you can get, I think, that’s just got images that he’s taken on film sets and all sorts of stuff. He likes it so much that he’s got a company that’s rebuilding it.

Chris [00:09:08]:
Oh, the things you can do when you have the money.

Chris [00:09:10]:
Yeah. Well, and passion. So

Chris [00:09:12]:
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I’d I’d hate

Chris [00:09:13]:
to think how much these cost when they come out because I think if you buy one now, the like a secondhand one that’s old, they’re like 600 US, I think. Yeah. And, the mechanisms are just old.

Chris [00:09:24]:
So he should be kick starting that stuff because that sounds like a kick start.

Chris [00:09:28]:
I don’t think he needs to. I think he

Chris [00:09:29]:
I know he doesn’t need to, but it it’s not a bad idea just to get the interest. You know what I mean?

Chris [00:09:35]:
So I don’t know if that’s happening or not. He may go down that path. But I think he’s literally making it for himself.

Chris [00:09:42]:
Yeah. Yeah.

Chris [00:09:42]:
And just on the side going, well, I got some more.

Chris [00:09:44]:
Well, yeah. It makes makes sense to build more than 1.

Chris [00:09:48]:
I assume so.

Chris [00:09:49]:
My one.

Chris [00:09:49]:
So it’s wide luxe, one word, l u x x. The original one only had one x. The new one’s got double x.

Chris [00:09:56]:
Oh, yeah. Because he’s a fan of Elon. No. He’s not. I’m just making No.

Chris [00:09:59]:
I don’t wanna Is

Chris [00:10:00]:
it I don’t wanna say No. Nobody’s a fan of Elon.

Chris [00:10:04]:
No. This week, has has Karl been all over the new AI stuff?

Chris [00:10:10]:
I haven’t heard much from Carl, to be honest. So I’ve been segregated in my own project. Carl did do a bit of a show and tell him what he’s doing with AI research, and he’s been in his AI research cave a lot.

Chris [00:10:23]:
Okay.

Chris [00:10:24]:
So I haven’t spoke to him about deep sec. I have heard a ton of stuff from other places.

Chris [00:10:29]:
Yeah. It’s gone crazy. Oh, China bringing the noise. So it’s open source AI at a fraction of the cost.

Chris [00:10:39]:
Yep. So chat GPT 4 apparently cost a 100,000,000 to build.

Chris [00:10:43]:
Oh, really?

Chris [00:10:44]:
DeepSeq cost 5,500,000. Yep. And they did And it’s it’s on par, if not better than

Chris [00:10:50]:
than Depends what you read.

Chris [00:10:51]:
But Yeah.

Chris [00:10:52]:
And and they trained it in 55 days or did something in 55 days?

Chris [00:10:57]:
So there’s a there’s a lot to this. So I don’t wanna bore everybody, but I’ll say a couple

Chris [00:11:01]:
of things. Yeah.

Chris [00:11:02]:
Yeah. So there’s these, h h 100 chips. H n 100? H 100 chips from NVIDIA, which are the latest ones.

Chris [00:11:12]:
Yep.

Chris [00:11:12]:
And they have been embargoed, and China’s not supposed to have them.

Chris [00:11:16]:
No. But they got their little greedy hands on them.

Chris [00:11:18]:
Apparently, they got their hands on them. I I initially was going, no. You’re just making that up. But, the more I hear about it, the more I’m like, it sounds like maybe maybe they have. But really the big deal is what what they’ve done, and it’s very smart

Chris [00:11:32]:
Yeah.

Chris [00:11:33]:
Is instead of focusing on the hardware and creating this big language model

Chris [00:11:37]:
Yep.

Chris [00:11:38]:
They’ve grabbed chatgpt

Chris [00:11:40]:
Pretty much.

Chris [00:11:40]:
And they’ve concentrated it or distilled it, if you like, by asking it spit strategic questions to create its own knowledge of the knowledge.

Chris [00:11:53]:
Yeah.

Chris [00:11:53]:
If you know what I mean? So it’s distilled the knowledge.

Chris [00:11:55]:
Yeah.

Chris [00:11:56]:
And that that’s really cool. Good on them. I don’t have a problem with that. I don’t see the big issue. I like it’s not that much of a drama. The big issue that it does have, and I’ll talk about NVIDIA in a second, but the big issue it does have is that it will have a chilling effect on investment in AI going forward.

Chris [00:12:17]:
Yeah. I think the market’s already gone all over the place. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But it will have

Chris [00:12:20]:
a chilling effect because it’s like, okay. So the next thing would let’s say it is a video. We want to get video going so we can just create, you know, type in a movie and it’ll create the movie. Right?

Chris [00:12:30]:
Yeah.

Chris [00:12:31]:
And we yeah. We’ve got things there, but there’s a lot of investment needed in that space. Well, nobody wants to put the money in now because if you put the money in, somebody else is gonna just come along

Chris [00:12:41]:
And grab it.

Chris [00:12:41]:
And use your data

Chris [00:12:42]:
Harvest it.

Chris [00:12:43]:
Harvest it and make something better out of it, then you don’t wanna be the first person in. So nobody wants to be the first person.

Chris [00:12:49]:
No.

Chris [00:12:50]:
So it slows the evolution down straight away.

Chris [00:12:52]:
That’s probably good.

Chris [00:12:53]:
So that’s that’s one thing. Yeah. And if you don’t want AI to be a runner if you’re worried about AI running away and becoming Skynet, this is probably a good thing. Right?

Chris [00:13:01]:
Have you used DeepSeq yet?

Chris [00:13:02]:
No. I haven’t looked at

Chris [00:13:03]:
it. Okay.

Chris [00:13:04]:
But the other thing I did wanna mention was, what’s the guy’s name from, NVIDIA?

Chris [00:13:09]:
Wouldn’t have a clue, but if you mention it, I’ll know it. Yeah. I The dude.

Chris [00:13:12]:
Jensen. Jensen Huang.

Chris [00:13:13]:
Yeah. Good. Sounds good. Whatever. So

Chris [00:13:16]:
Chloe Abram that I talk about quite a bit.

Chris [00:13:18]:
Yep. I haven’t heard her name for a while, but

Chris [00:13:20]:
he YouTuber. She did a long interview with them.

Chris [00:13:23]:
Okay.

Chris [00:13:23]:
This is before Deepsea came out or at least the interview was taped before it came out, obviously. I think it released around the same time. And, that was really fascinating. If you’re into this stuff, it’s really fascinating. If you’re not, it’s not. But, basically, they put so much money, tens of 1,000,000,000 of dollars into those chips when everybody was going, why are you spending money on this?

Chris [00:13:45]:
He he he did a huge bet.

Chris [00:13:47]:
Yeah. Exactly. It was a huge bet. And so from this investment thing that I was talking about, that’s not gonna change the way they’re going because they have a long term strategy, and they’re just gonna keep going.

Chris [00:13:58]:
Yep.

Chris [00:13:58]:
So, whilst I think it’ll slow them the right down in terms of, AI model

Chris [00:14:07]:
Yeah.

Chris [00:14:07]:
Generation. It’s not gonna slow the chips down. The hardware’s still gonna go. And in fact, Carl was just moaning to me just like, a little bit before to our whole group at work. PvTech’s got those brand new, chips from, new Card. Graphic cards.

Chris [00:14:26]:
Yeah. Yeah.

Chris [00:14:27]:
They’re they’re being released 3 AM

Chris [00:14:29]:
Yeah. Of course.

Chris [00:14:30]:
This coming morning.

Chris [00:14:31]:
Yeah.

Chris [00:14:31]:
And he’s like, god, why 3 AM? Oh my god. I have to stay up now so he can get one of these amazing graphics cards.

Chris [00:14:37]:
A couple of things. I don’t know if this is a new marketing thing because MITRE 10 Mega has a big clearance sale and it starts at midnight, tonight, I think, as we’re recording this. And I’m like, okay. I don’t know. I just wonder if it’s easier for them to manage when they’ve only got limited quantities. Like, it’s a constraint for some people.

Chris [00:14:57]:
Yeah.

Chris [00:14:57]:
Yeah. So they’ve got I mean, I don’t even know how many cards they have in the country, graphics cards. I know. I know. But not many, I’m gonna say. And they’re just like, you know what? This is the way we can handle it. Because as soon as it’s sold out, they just say it’s sold out. Instead of doing it at 7 o’clock at night when everybody’s available.

Chris [00:15:11]:
I did have a quick play with DeepSeq. Apparently, there’s different models or things that can tap into it, like, it’s way easier. So when you read any of the stuff, it’s real confusing because they’re talking about all sorts of stuff all at the same time, different things. But deep seek itself, it’s, you know, super similar to how chat gbt is, but it’s got this extra button. Because it it has a couple of suggestions. It says, oh, maybe I can find a movie or a TV show you like. Just tell me what things you watch now. So I said, here’s 3 shows.

Chris [00:15:40]:
And it goes, oh, sweet. And it’s got a button, and it’ll start working it out. But the extra button now off the top of my head, I can’t remember what it’s called, but it’s its reasoning function.

Chris [00:15:51]:
Oh, yeah.

Chris [00:15:52]:
And when you click it, it’s writing out screeds and screeds of words, and it’s showing you how it’s working it out.

Chris [00:16:00]:
Carl did post that in Oh, okay. Okay. AI channel. I forgot about that because I didn’t know what it was when he was showing me. I thought it was a chat gpt because I hadn’t heard of Txig.

Chris [00:16:09]:
Yeah. Yeah.

Chris [00:16:09]:
When he when he Yeah. But, yes, that reasoning function was really cool.

Chris [00:16:13]:
It’s interesting because it’s like, okay. This movie is dark. It’s got this. It’s got this. It’s got this. Okay. What other things are like that? And then it starts working it out and then it goes, okay. Now I’m gonna compare it to this.

Chris [00:16:25]:
And it’s like, oh, okay.

Chris [00:16:27]:
Yeah. Because the the thing that Kyle shared in our chat, which, again, I sort of forgot about, had a had a roadblock and went, no. That doesn’t work. And then it starts again.

Chris [00:16:37]:
Yeah. Yeah.

Chris [00:16:38]:
Like, in the thinking process, it was very clever. It was very cool. It’s a cool feature.

Chris [00:16:42]:
It’s interesting, you know, and and they’re talking about it’s we’ve done this before in the past for other things. I think just AI in general when we start talking about it. The big thing are these agents and, Yep. ChatGPT’s got its own thing. It’s not working that well. It’s got its new, what’s the thing that where it can interact websites now? So you tell it something, or you show it how to do something, and OpenAI goes, sweet, and it starts clicking on stuff. So in theory, we should be able to say, I want you to publish this podcast. This is how you do it.

Chris [00:17:13]:
And it goes, oh, okay. Sweet. And off it goes. Yep. And it’s not quite there, but I think DeepSeq can do something. Anyway, they just talk about, it’s gonna change all these jobs. It’s gonna be able to do all this stuff. When you’re deep in a company and they’ve got legacy systems and things that are done manually, like multiple tasks just to do one simple thing, there’s no way they are bringing AI in anytime soon.

Chris [00:17:43]:
No. I mean If you’re building something from scratch Yes. Exactly. So when, 2 Degrees first launched in New Zealand and I was working at Telecom, Telecom was the incumbent Ancient systems. Like, I’m pretty sure ICMS was built in 1986, because I think that’s what it had the copyright.

Chris [00:18:01]:
Yep. Yep.

Chris [00:18:01]:
Yep. And, everything was built on there. So in 1986, they didn’t have mobile. They didn’t have broadband. Nope. So all of this stuff is stacked on it. Yep. And so that that tech stack was so tedious.

Chris [00:18:15]:
And to create anything new took so much time, whereas, 2degrees came along, they’re getting everything off the shelf. It’s working out of the box straight up. Now they’ll have those problems now Yes. Because it’s 10, 20 years later or whatever it is.

Chris [00:18:30]:
Yep.

Chris [00:18:30]:
But at the time, they just had a head start. I do wanna say, just before we leave the deep sec thing, it was interesting and that maybe this is a segue to,

Chris [00:18:40]:
Your mate. Your mate.

Chris [00:18:42]:
Your mate. Not mine. My mate. It was funny because they launched it on inauguration day.

Chris [00:18:48]:
Yeah. Yeah.

Chris [00:18:49]:
There was no that’s not a coincidence. That is not a coincidence. And and more impressive than that was he made such a big deal of Stargate

Chris [00:19:00]:
Yeah. Yeah.

Chris [00:19:01]:
Which in itself is like, oh my god. Trump’s in charge. Everything’s gonna be called after a TV show from the eighties now. Nineties. What do

Chris [00:19:11]:
you think? Talking about your buddy, I don’t have the link. So I might have to try and find it next week. So sorry for you die hard Trump people. There’s a guy that’s built a website, and it lists in real time all the executive orders that he’s signing off. Really interesting. Because some of them are just like, what the hell?

Chris [00:19:29]:
It it’s been a week, bro, and it’s it’s exhausting.

Chris [00:19:33]:
Well, I don’t even think media’s covering every covering every single thing. Like, this website is, like I can’t remember what it was, but anyway, really interesting. Enough of tech. No more on Trump?

Chris [00:19:46]:
I’ve got more Trump. I got a little bit more Trump. We gotta get I’ll I’ll be quick on it.

Chris [00:19:50]:
Okay. Go. Go. Go.

Chris [00:19:51]:
So, you know, he’s did you hear that he’s, abolished the, inland revenue service and he’s, repelling the tax laws? No. So there’s no Good.

Chris [00:20:00]:
What could go wrong?

Chris [00:20:01]:
No income tax. So that’s, one of the things he’s he’s done, which I don’t think he can do, but he’s done it.

Chris [00:20:08]:
Yes. He’s he’s

Chris [00:20:08]:
doing everything. But the, the he also did there was some other thing. I’ve forgotten exactly the details about it. But he made a big deal, and he says, we’re getting rid of this. And the way he did it was it’s he’s doing all the stuff that it’s like, can he do it? But he’s just done it. Yeah. And even though it’s not really legal, he’s done it. So loads of people have taken the court, you know, all the Yeah.

Chris [00:20:32]:
Yeah. Organizations. Now you can’t do that and sort of get an injection from court. And one of the things he did was something about funding or or freezing all the financing for all these things. And it froze all the Medicaid in the country in the States. What? So all the Medicaid websites went down. Okay. So people can’t get they can’t go to hospital.

Chris [00:20:54]:
They can’t do whatever they do with Medicaid in the States. It was, like, life threatening stuff. So somebody went and said, put in an injunction, and the the judge is like, oh, yeah. No. This doesn’t look good. We’ll we’ll put an injunction. And so immediately, the Trump’s team went, oh, no. We’re gonna rescind that.

Chris [00:21:11]:
Like, we no. We’d we’ll pull that back. We’ll ignore that. We’re not doing it. Yeah. Right? Because they knew they were gonna get beaten. They’re, like, thrashed in court. So they did that, which I think is their plan.

Chris [00:21:22]:
I think they’re just throwing everything at the wall, and they’re just gonna rescind things that don’t land, you know.

Chris [00:21:26]:
Yeah. Okay.

Chris [00:21:27]:
But then the new press secretary have you heard this new press secretary?

Chris [00:21:30]:
Well, no. I haven’t. Are they up to the standard of the previous

Chris [00:21:34]:
Oh my god. What it wants? She is giving Sean Spicer a run for his money. Good. Dumbest, press secretary ever. She is the youngest press secretary ever. She’s 27 years old.

Chris [00:21:44]:
Oh, she doesn’t know anything.

Chris [00:21:46]:
Blue eyes. Of course. She is married to a 60 year old, millionaire

Chris [00:21:50]:
billionaire or

Chris [00:21:51]:
something like that.

Chris [00:21:51]:
So yeah. Yeah.

Chris [00:21:54]:
She must know something.

Chris [00:21:55]:
Yeah. I bet she does. I bet she does.

Chris [00:21:58]:
And she so she basically tweeted out because,

Chris [00:22:03]:
On her one or the official channels?

Chris [00:22:05]:
On the official channel. Yeah. But I think she said something first in the, in the press briefing. So when Biden came into office, he did a press briefing every day for the 1st 20 days. This is what we’re doing.

Chris [00:22:20]:
This is what we’re doing. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Let me yeah. Okay.

Chris [00:22:22]:
When Trump went into office 7 days before they had the first press briefing, basically. And then yeah. I and it’s crazy. But anyway so I think they had a press briefing. She said, no. We’re sending that. And then people would give it writing up stories going, oh, no. They rescinded that, you know, Trump lost this thing.

Chris [00:22:42]:
And and she tweeted out, no. We didn’t lose. We we just rescinded it because we’re doing it in a different way. We’re going to do this other thing instead. We’re going to approach it in a different way. And immediately, she texts that the because there was couple of court cases. This other thing was in court and the plaintiff basically said, hey, judge. They haven’t rescinding it because the the defense was going, oh, no.

Chris [00:23:04]:
We’ve rescinded it. Don’t worry. It’s it’s nonevent. You can you can say it’s all over. No. According to the white house dot gov or whatever it is, Twitter thing, they’re still into it. And the joke goes, yeah. So they are.

Chris [00:23:19]:
So it stands. This is the thing. And so they got smacked. But Trump won’t care about that. No. He doesn’t give a crap.

Chris [00:23:25]:
Excellent. Jamie Oxley did say he can’t wait for Trump Watch. Like, just because of the right crazy stories and how excited you get about it. We only have a few minutes left because, man, we were talking about some stuff. We need some randomness in our life, Chris. There’s some video footage, from an Auckland supermarket where, some a trio was doing some shoplifting because they just do that. And, 1 of a customer had something thrown at them and then a worker was threatened with a piece of fruit.

Chris [00:23:55]:
With a banana? Was it a stick up?

Chris [00:23:58]:
No. It was a pineapple. She picked it up and pretended to throw it at the employee. I don’t know if there’s a worse piece of fruit or not.

Chris [00:24:09]:
Those are pretty heavy. A coconut would be worse.

Chris [00:24:12]:
Yes. But you’re sort of

Chris [00:24:13]:
That probably is the only thing I can think of that Yeah.

Chris [00:24:15]:
But you’re one like, in my head, I’m like, okay. If I’m in that scenario, I’m looking at this person, they’re freaking out, like, you know, how good are they at throwing stuff?

Chris [00:24:24]:
Yeah. People are not good at throwing stuff under emotional energy.

Chris [00:24:28]:
No. I don’t think so. They’re just like and you’d be like, sweet bro. Pineapple over there. Yeah. So that’s good. And then also down in, Napier, somebody has been changing a bunch of road signs into crude words for a while for for a couple of months now. The council was not happy.

Chris [00:24:49]:
So do they still they they’re not just painting over it. They’re making it look like the sign says that. So if it’s white writing, they they’re masking the tape or whatever to make it look

Chris [00:24:59]:
like Yeah. Yeah. So Cornwall Road now starts with a p.

Chris [00:25:03]:
Okay.

Chris [00:25:04]:
So they’ve changed that. But, yeah. The other ones were unfit for publication. So they’re not even gonna tell us what the other ones are. They said that they’ve replaced about 30 street signs at a cost of about $5,000. They’ve done a report, but the police are just like, we’re probably just noted down for intel purposes at the moment because we can’t find the person. So somebody’s out there at night just laughing their

Chris [00:25:27]:
head off. Teenager.

Chris [00:25:29]:
Well, that’s the thing. People are like, I don’t think it’s a young person. I think it’s someone in, like, thirties or forties. Because a young person may not go to the effort of doing this. I think whoever it is has a great sense of humor. It’s it’s a bit rough though

Chris [00:25:47]:
It’s not me. I’m sorry. It’s not me. I haven’t got a car.

Chris [00:25:49]:
Yeah. It’s alright. It’s a bit rough though if children are seeing it.

Chris [00:25:53]:
Yeah. Yeah.

Chris [00:25:53]:
But I think it went unnoticed for like a while. That’s the funny thing.

Chris [00:25:57]:
That is the funny thing.

Chris [00:25:58]:
Because people don’t pay attention to anything. You don’t you don’t

Chris [00:26:01]:
read a street sign unless you’re visiting. If you live there, you never look at the street sign. Yeah. It’s only when you’re in an area you don’t know and go, where am I, that you look at the street sign. So, absolutely, if you’re changing it in a neighborhood, the only people that would notice is probably kids. Yeah. Really. Did I tell you notice all sorts of crap.

Chris [00:26:20]:
I just thought of something. Do I tell you about the rooster? No. No. The rooster story?

Chris [00:26:24]:
No. Okay. So I live in So you end on the rooster.

Chris [00:26:26]:
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I just realized this is what’s been happening during the week. I forgot because, you know Anyway, I live in a cul de sac and, a rooster has somehow appeared. So in my head, I’m like who the hell got a rooster? Why have you got a rooster? You’re an idiot. So every morning, most of the day and night, this rooster crows and it just keeps crying, crying, crying, and I’m like, this is nuts. So after a couple of day and it’s doing it first thing in the morning when I go for a walk or a run and I’m like, oh, no.

Chris [00:26:53]:
I think I know where it is. It’s 4 doors down from me, down the back in this bush area. So Hamilton City uses the antenna app to report, things to the council. So I do this rooster request and I’m like, hey, I think somebody’s got a rooster. It’s crowing all the time. This, you know, it’s it’s not that good. I get a text message back a couple of hours later going, we have forwarded this on to Animal Control. Thank you so much, customer services team.

Chris [00:27:23]:
And I’m like, man, this is cool. Really onto it. And then on Monday, the public holiday, my phone’s ringing at 7 o’clock in the morning. And I’m like, who’s this? And they’re like, hey. Animal Control here. Got your report. We know all about the rooster. It’s just appeared.

Chris [00:27:41]:
Nobody owns it. There’s a small gully behind that house, and 4 of us came to find it last week. We saw it. It can fly really well, and we could not catch it. And I’m like coming

Chris [00:27:54]:
back with shotgun.

Chris [00:27:55]:
We yeah. Yeah. We’ll come back. We won’t be back today because we don’t have everyone working

Chris [00:28:01]:
And it’s a public holiday.

Chris [00:28:03]:
But we will come during this week. I’m like, sweet. So that day, we’re gardening and I’m pulling out all this crap out of the side of the house and I look across and animal control turned up on the public holiday, but there’s only 2 of them And she’s coming back. She’s got the this comically large net. Like, this huge net. And she’s putting it back in the ute. And she’s talking to one of the neighbors, and she’s basically like, yeah. Today I

Chris [00:28:28]:
touched it, but didn’t get it.

Chris [00:28:31]:
And I’m like, what is going on? So they know where it is. We can hear it. It’s all good. Later that day, I’m going out. I’m going to the warehouse to buy something, and I get in my car. And in the rear vision mirror of my car, the rooster is He’s got a photo, isn’t he? Is wandering around outside my house. And then it walks next door to my car, and it’s a decent sized rooster. It’s pretty big.

Chris [00:28:53]:
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Chris [00:28:54]:
It’s not a bad looking thing either.

Chris [00:28:56]:
Yeah. Yeah. And I’m looking at it going, I I’ve got nothing. I don’t know. Like, I I could pick a chicken up, and I think it’d be okay, but I think this thing could cause me some harm. So I can’t do anything. I just leave it.

Chris [00:29:10]:
Yeah. But I think if you as long as you hang it upside down, but, you know, hold it by its feet, hang it upside down Yeah. You’re safe once you do that. But it doesn’t sound like it’s gonna stand there No. For you to approach it.

Chris [00:29:21]:
Well, I opened the car door and was, like, calling it, and it sort of looked at me and walked over a couple of steps. But I don’t have anything else with me. The rooster’s still there. It was crying this morning. Yeah. That’s my rooster story.

Chris [00:29:32]:
Yeah. It’s funny because, 2 of the people that I work with have chickens at home. So when we’re on,

Chris [00:29:39]:
Oh, yeah.

Chris [00:29:39]:
On on Zoom calls, quite often you hear the

Chris [00:29:41]:
clap clap clap clap clap clap clap clap in the background. But yeah. Anyway, that brings us to the end of this episode. We hope you’ve enjoyed it, or suffered through it. 1 of the 2.

Chris [00:29:53]:
It’ll be 1 of

Chris [00:29:54]:
the It doesn’t bother us because we’re gonna do this no matter what.

Chris [00:29:58]:
Yeah. And next week, it might be some interesting stories. I’m I’m guaranteeing there’ll be some interesting stories

Chris [00:30:04]:
Looking forward to it. From my trip. So, yeah. We’ll I mean, bare minimum, there’s gonna be a story about this bus somehow.

Chris [00:30:13]:
Oh, yeah.

Chris [00:30:14]:
Because you and travel sometimes always has a random story.

Chris [00:30:17]:
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That’s true.

Chris [00:30:19]:
