Sam [00:00:10]:
Hello, and welcome to episode 518 of the Chris and Sam podcast.

Chris [00:00:27]:
I’m Chris.

Chris [00:00:27]:
And I’m Sam. Welcome along to your weekly fix of randomness technology in life. This episode is gonna be 99% Trump free, I’m told. We’ll see how that goes. Big shout out to our listener in Singapore or listeners in Singapore. They’ve been downloading episodes like a mad person, in the last couple of weeks.

Sam [00:00:45]:
Yeah. Good on you. Cool. So, what have you

Chris [00:00:49]:
been up to this week? What have you been

Sam [00:00:50]:
up to this week? I’ve just been working and melting. It has been so hot in Hamilton. In fact, I’ve got some some some stats on that.

Chris [00:00:59]:
It has been very warm.

Sam [00:01:00]:
I’ve had even some trouble sleeping. It’s been hot at night type thing.

Chris [00:01:04]:
You know that whole thing?

Sam [00:01:05]:
So, yeah. So I think today is the twelfth day in a row that we’ve been over 27 degrees Okay. In Hamilton, which to some of our listeners around the world, that might not sound a lot, but it really is here.

Chris [00:01:18]:
It’s the stupid humidity. Yeah. Yeah. That’ll get you.

Sam [00:01:22]:
Yeah. So, we’ve got hang on. This thing’s loading up. Let me see what it says. Oh, yeah. That’s not the weather. Cool.

Chris [00:01:35]:
I don’t know what’s going on. He’s playing with his phone. Do you want do you want me to tell you what I did today?

Sam [00:01:40]:
Yeah. You tell me.

Chris [00:01:41]:
Okay. I drove a BYD Dolphin today.

Sam [00:01:44]:
Oh, okay. So we’ve got

Chris [00:01:46]:
new fleet vehicles at work, and they’re all electric BYDs. There’s a Dolphin, which is the smaller version, and there’s a bigger version, which I can’t remember the name of, eco maybe, and that’s the SUV version.

Sam [00:01:57]:
Yeah. I’m gonna drive one of those soon.

Chris [00:01:59]:
Yeah. I’ll call

Sam [00:02:00]:
They’ve got them in Mevo. So I was gonna find an excuse to get one and take it for a spin and come see you and see if you wanted to have a driver.

Chris [00:02:07]:
So well, the here’s some here’s some here’s some, observations. It beeps a lot. Oh, really? Yeah. Because, like, you’re driving through town, and the speed limit through town’s 30, and then it goes to 40, I think. And for some reason, it just goes, you’re speeding, and it keeps showing you 10. And then it’s it I think it’s beeping when you get to an intersection. It was very weird in town to start with.

Sam [00:02:31]:
Because they’ve got those blindside beepers. So if somebody’s coming up behind you on your in your blindside Yeah. Maybe that’s the beep.

Chris [00:02:40]:
Maybe. It did have the indication for that, but it seemed to also be doing it when nothing else was around. Alright. But then it didn’t do it later on when I was back in town. So I don’t know. The gear, selector, like, driving that is this little weird dial that you just push backwards or forwards with your finger, which is actually, I’ll show you.

Sam [00:02:59]:
That’s that doesn’t feel good. I’ll show

Chris [00:03:01]:
you I’ll show you a photo. That’s it. This little nubbin thing.

Sam [00:03:05]:
Oh my god.

Chris [00:03:05]:
It’s just Yeah.

Sam [00:03:06]:
That’s not what I expected.

Chris [00:03:08]:
And then the other thing is, because it’s they’ve got, like, a million cameras on the thing. And I’m sure if you’ve driven a fancy car or a new car, this is quite common, but, not for me. So when I park this thing, it’s got cameras down at the wheel level, so you can see the line right next to the wheel.

Sam [00:03:25]:
Oh, okay.

Chris [00:03:25]:
It has a surround cam a surround vehicle camera, so it shows you the pillars that you’re next to and where the car’s positioned. And it’s just like, okay. And it shows you how to line up with the lines and all this sort of stuff. Very cool. Get back, and we park it, and there’s three other electric vehicles just parked absolutely wonky. Like, worse than a car without cameras. And I’m like, what are these people doing? Because the the the screen in the car is massive. Like, you cannot not see the camera set up because it knows you’re parking.

Chris [00:03:59]:
And it’s yeah. It was crazy. I was like, I don’t know. And the one car was, like, over into another car park. Okay. I Yeah. Real nice to drive. Quite liked it.

Chris [00:04:10]:
And, that’s my BYD, electric car story. BYD, if you’re listening to this or you find it in a Google search and you wanna help sponsor the Chris and Sam podcast, even for a short period, we’ll be okay with that.

Sam [00:04:21]:
Absolutely. Absolutely. So I I’ve found my, story on on the weather. Hamilton’s recent run of hot days likely beats anything the city has experienced since, temperature records began.

Chris [00:04:34]:
Really?

Sam [00:04:34]:
So yeah. It’s

Chris [00:04:35]:
too climate change.

Sam [00:04:36]:
And it’s funny because they had Luke Harrington was the one they interviewed, and he’s the speaker from TEDx University of Waikato they coached last year to do his talk. So Nice. That was pretty cool. So I that’s why I thought I’d I’d mentioned that, but, basically

Chris [00:04:51]:
Have you been publishing that somehow? What? That you helped this guy, and he’s the go to guy for this? Because that’s what you should be doing.

Sam [00:04:57]:
No. I hadn’t. But I only saw this a a wee while ago.

Chris [00:05:01]:
So Okay.

Sam [00:05:02]:
I haven’t had a chance to to crow on that. I don’t think I will. I don’t know. Yeah. Okay. But yeah. So yeah. It’s, it might not sound that dramatic, but it’s basically been consistently sitting between about twenty eight and thirty degrees Celsius, and it hasn’t dropped below 27 for eleven days, twelve days now, I think, because we hit it again today.

Sam [00:05:23]:
When you combine the lower wind and humidity into the mix, the heat stress can start to be pretty pronounced. And I think that’s why I’ve been, having a little trouble sleeping at night and, yeah, plus a lot of stress at work. So yeah. But that was that was what I was gonna say about that.

Chris [00:05:39]:
Do you remember the name James Howells? I’d be surprised if you did. No. That’s right. No. Okay. Episode 509 of the podcast. Check out the chrissandpodcast.com or on your podcasting apps. We talked about the guy that was in The UK trying to find that USB stick with his Bitcoin on it.

Sam [00:05:54]:
Yes. I do remember him now because that’s a great story.

Chris [00:05:57]:
500,000,000 oh, actually, 500,000,000 at the time. I think it’s about $600,000,000 worth of Bitcoin. And he was trying to get in there to dig it up. Yeah. They took him to court.

Sam [00:06:09]:
He had the hard drives in a black rubbish bag, which that’s a perfect place to find it.

Chris [00:06:15]:
Know.

Sam [00:06:15]:
And then Easy to find threw it in the trash Yeah. And it had yeah. Yeah.

Chris [00:06:19]:
So I think it’s just a USB stick is what I read.

Sam [00:06:22]:
Yeah.

Chris [00:06:22]:
And it’s just the key. So he was in high court last month. He did fail to get anywhere. So they said, no. They do not have to give you access to it. They own the property once it’s dumped there. And then the council just turns around and goes, hey. You know what? Oh, yeah.

Chris [00:06:40]:
That, dump is full. We’re gonna cap it now. So they’re gonna, like, bury it, and that’s it. Right? And he goes, that’s really weird they’re doing that right now and never mentioned it in the past ever. And he goes, why can’t I go in? So now he’s looking for investment partners to buy the dump.

Sam [00:06:56]:
This is like this is like the crazy gold miner thing. Right? Except you’re mining something that’s already been fabricated. It’s like, I know there’s a gem in there somewhere. We’re gonna dig it up. We’ll buy this patch of ground, and we’ll dig it up.

Chris [00:07:11]:
I think it’s worse than that because the logistic you have to look at every single black rubbish bag, every single thing, because this little device could go into something, a cup, anything, so you’ve got that problem. You’ve got leachate coming out of the soil, which is potentially corrosive or liquid at least, which may destroy this thing. And then somebody online goes, I hope he’s not using any magnets anywhere because that’ll just wipe the I I just I just think he needs to give up. There’s too much.

Sam [00:07:45]:
I think he needs to import some some professionals from, like, India. You know, those guys that live on the rubbish dump and make their whole life working through

Chris [00:07:53]:
Maybe. You

Sam [00:07:53]:
know, he should get a a twenty or thirty

Chris [00:07:56]:
a month. There like, if he let’s say he buys it. Is he only going to focus on this one thing and everybody hopes they find it, and it could take them who knows how long? Or is he gonna be trying to recycle some stuff or recover money somewhere else? Like, he’s like, oh, there’s a circuit board. Let’s mark that down.

Sam [00:08:15]:
If it’s 600,000,000, that’s all he’s interested in. That’s all he’s gonna get.

Chris [00:08:18]:
Meant to wait. I’ve got more weird old backstories with weird updates, sort of.

Sam [00:08:24]:
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Chris [00:08:25]:
Okay. Episode 488. Yeah. July 2024.

Sam [00:08:28]:
Oh, yeah. And remember it well.

Chris [00:08:30]:
Yep. Of course. We we all do. This was the story of the man tries to steal 241 blocks of Whitaker’s chocolate.

Sam [00:08:37]:
Oh, yes. Yes.

Chris [00:08:38]:
I do remember. Episode 501, October 20 20 four. Also remember it well. The woman was stealing $200 worth of mayonnaise

Sam [00:08:49]:
That’s right.

Chris [00:08:49]:
In a suitcase. Cool. Last week, Pokikoi, a 28 year old, was stealing from a supermarket. They ring the police. The police go and run around, find it, and there was three bags hidden in nearby bushes. 66 blocks of Whitaker’s chocolate, 13 bottles of shampoo, and 10 containers of mayonnaise. What is going on?

Sam [00:09:14]:
He was listening to the podcast. It’s the mayonnaise. He’s one of our fans. He’s been going through, and he’s probably had a little black rubbish bag with a USB stick as well they didn’t see.

Chris [00:09:28]:
What’s with yeah. Maybe. What’s with the mayonnaise?

Sam [00:09:32]:
I don’t know.

Chris [00:09:33]:
Let’s think about this. You can steal anything or try to anything you want in a supermarket. Right?

Sam [00:09:40]:
Mayonnaise, I don’t even remember buying mayonnaise. I never I’ve bought it. I’ve taken it from home from from work before when I worked at Gilmore.

Chris [00:09:49]:
Okay. Yeah.

Sam [00:09:50]:
But I think it was because it was getting close to date, and I’m like, oh, yeah. I can find some use for that.

Chris [00:09:54]:
Is there some sort of underground drug making thing that we do not know about that involves mayonnaise? Because a suitcase full of it’s weird. 10 tubs of it now is weird. With it because I get a little bit. Yeah. Sort of luxury chocolate. Shampoo, I get a

Sam [00:10:11]:
little bit. Not not so much me, but but No. Chocolate I get also because it’s ridiculously expensive now.

Chris [00:10:18]:
Yeah. Exactly. Exactly. It’s getting up there because they’re paying, you know

Sam [00:10:23]:
Fair trade.

Chris [00:10:23]:
Fair trade and all that sort of stuff, and that’s the cost of it. Anyway, if you know what is happening with the mayonnaise underworld, Is this something we should be getting in on?

Sam [00:10:33]:
Let us know. I was gonna say, is it because it got eggs in it and eggs are expensive? They’re not particularly expensive now.

Chris [00:10:41]:
We’re we’re getting do you use mayonnaise for? It’s like a salad dressing slash type thing, Condiment.

Sam [00:10:47]:
Yeah. And maybe throw it in the sandwich. And it’s also sandwiches.

Chris [00:10:51]:
It’s such an awkward thing because it’s in a jar. So you’re like, I’m gonna steal 10 or 20 of them. It’s quite a lot. It’s quite heavy. Wouldn’t you be better at stealing, I don’t know, something else? Batteries. Yeah. Exactly. Yeah.

Chris [00:11:09]:
I don’t know. If you know the answer, please let us know.

Sam [00:11:12]:
Talking about crimes.

Chris [00:11:13]:
Yeah. What’s happening?

Sam [00:11:14]:
Hamilton crimes are.

Chris [00:11:15]:
Oh, good.

Sam [00:11:16]:
So,

Chris [00:11:16]:
They’re quite hard to believe.

Sam [00:11:18]:
Yeah. So it’s up 10%. This is 2024 year Yeah. Over 2023. Yep. So it’s 0.11 recorded crimes per person. So for every person here, 0.11 recorded crimes.

Chris [00:11:35]:
Okay.

Sam [00:11:35]:
Now this compares to Wellington, which was 0.05 crimes per person. Woah. Christchurch, Zero Point Zero Eight, which is actually down 6% per person. And, the hot spots, CBD, Tarapa, cry crime hot spots dropped from 32% to 29%, while increases were, recorded in Chedworth and Dinsdale. I don’t even know where Chegworth is.

Chris [00:12:02]:
Chegworth is, isn’t it? It’s sort of between, yeah, exactly. Okay. Right at Tuna and, Chartwell. Oh, I know that. Yeah.

Sam [00:12:11]:
Chartwell Way. Yeah.

Chris [00:12:12]:
In Dinsdale, I believe that because I was there the other day for work. I had to wait thirty five minutes for a store to open before I could get in there, and, gosh, it was the hood.

Sam [00:12:22]:
There’s some stuff going on. You telling me that, actually. Yeah. They say sexual assault abduction robbery has dropped while assaults and theft has increased.

Chris [00:12:31]:
But this is reported crime, isn’t it? That’s exactly right. Yeah.

Sam [00:12:35]:
And and there’s a lot of problems with,

Chris [00:12:37]:
The types of crime.

Sam [00:12:39]:
Yeah. So a bunch of so somebody was saying that a bunch of support services have been withdrawn

Chris [00:12:45]:
Of course.

Sam [00:12:45]:
Or or been defunded.

Chris [00:12:46]:
Yeah. Yeah.

Sam [00:12:47]:
Yeah. And so people don’t have the support. So if you’re not gonna have the support Yep. As particularly as a as a female who’s, suffered a sexual abuse, you’re like, well, if I’m not getting any support, I’m not going to court. I’m not gonna why would you do that? So, of course, the the, recording recorded stuff here. Okay.

Chris [00:13:07]:
So But I guess the trend in general, we can say, is rising.

Sam [00:13:11]:
Yeah. But one of the comments that came up, that I wrote I noted down here was that, Hamilton is currently and I don’t this needs fact checking. Is that I wrote down here, New Zealand’s fastest growing city.

Chris [00:13:28]:
Yes. It is. There’s a tool that Hamilton City Council has built, and it is a, projection type tool. And I can’t remember what it’s called, but you can find it. They released it a couple of months ago, and you can fast forward to the like, twenty five years, and it’ll show you projected growth and how big the suburbs are gonna go and stuff.

Sam [00:13:48]:
Oh, okay.

Chris [00:13:49]:
Because they’re they have to forecast what’s happening.

Sam [00:13:51]:
Yeah. Infrastructure.

Chris [00:13:52]:
You’ve got to

Sam [00:13:53]:
forecast forecast all that, which is interesting. So we’ve got New Zealand’s fastest growing city Yeah. Because ten years ago or more, it was Tauranga. It was pretty much

Chris [00:14:02]:
just right.

Sam [00:14:03]:
But there’s no increase in police resources or anything. So Yeah. How does that factor into this crime thing as well? Right? If we’re if we’re the fastest growing city and we’re not getting any additional resources to handle stuff. So But

Chris [00:14:16]:
Anyway, that

Sam [00:14:16]:
that was interesting. I thought that I mentioned that. Maybe not interesting to, listeners outside of Hamilton, but, come and visit us. It’s awesome.

Chris [00:14:24]:
We’re always here for the latest news Yeah. That we wanna talk about

Sam [00:14:28]:
and talk about. But we have, our migration has jumped up. So, we’re still net more immigration than migration going out. So I got a, link to the stats government in there and, record number of people leaving Yeah. Well, then New Zealand at the moment.

Chris [00:14:47]:
But but that I think that is the plan. We want all the people that know what they’re doing and are smart and young that won’t do science or anything like that, highly skilled, they’re gonna leave the country. We’re gonna bring a whole bunch of people that want to work for very, very cheap and very poor conditions.

Sam [00:15:03]:
And and live in and live in rented accommodation, which,

Chris [00:15:06]:
Yep. We’re gonna jam them

Sam [00:15:07]:
in wardrobe. As boys. Yep.

Chris [00:15:09]:
And and the business owners are gonna be very happy

Sam [00:15:12]:
Yeah.

Chris [00:15:12]:
Because it saves them money, bottom line. And don’t forget, we have to think about the landlords. I hope they’re okay.

Sam [00:15:19]:
Yeah. Yeah. A %. Hundred %. Landlords are the whole point. Actually, landlords is how I got onto this story because, I I’ve ran across some, forum, a Reddit thing, basically, and they they were all talking about how to get your lower

Chris [00:15:34]:
Oh, yeah. I think I saw that one.

Sam [00:15:36]:
Rent, yeah, and stuff. And and they were saying in Wellington, specifically, so many people are leaving Wellington right now because tens of thousands of people have lost their jobs. Yeah.

Chris [00:15:46]:
I know. Yeah. Exactly.

Sam [00:15:48]:
Which is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. I I still don’t know.

Chris [00:15:51]:
Worry. There’ll be more dumb stuff coming.

Sam [00:15:52]:
And when I went down to Tatahi Bay, even my dad was talking about that.

Chris [00:15:57]:
Oh, wow.

Sam [00:15:57]:
You’re like Yeah. They were just like, the government’s just screwed this all up, all over the place. That’s good. But yeah. Anyway, so Do

Chris [00:16:05]:
you know what time it is, Chris?

Sam [00:16:06]:
Chum time. No. Sorry. No. You should’ve seen his face when I said that. I

Chris [00:16:15]:
I I was not happy about that. It’s kick it’s kick start or drop kick. Okay. I got two. You can pick. As always, I give Chris the option of which one he wants to hear about first.

Sam [00:16:28]:
What do you got? Holiday or Tiny Edge. We’ll go with Halliday. I remember a guy you went to school with called Halliday, Martin Halliday.

Chris [00:16:39]:
Okay. This is the first proactive AI glasses with an invisible display. So it’s a pair of glasses, and it’s gonna beam, an image into your brain, into your eyeballs. And, apparently, it’s gonna be like when you’re in a situation, it’ll give you information about what people are talking about and all this sort of stuff. But I don’t think that’s the innovation, but I it’s I don’t care about the AI side of it. What I do like, it’s and it’s it’s really simple. They’ve put a little tiny screen in the top of your glasses frame just here. Yeah.

Chris [00:17:15]:
So when you look at it, it looks like three and a half inches of, green writing on black screen.

Sam [00:17:22]:
Like old school computer.

Chris [00:17:23]:
School computer. And I can look at you. You can’t tell that I’ve got this little screen that I’m looking at because current options sort of put it on the glass. This is just a little monitor and,

Sam [00:17:36]:
Are they really thick?

Chris [00:17:37]:
No. Not glass. No. Not not too bad. Not too bad. That’s sort of the frame there.

Sam [00:17:42]:
Oh, yeah. That’s much thicker than

Chris [00:17:44]:
what I’m wearing right now.

Sam [00:17:44]:
Yeah.

Chris [00:17:45]:
The cool and there’s the little tiny display.

Sam [00:17:48]:
Yeah.

Chris [00:17:48]:
And it looks really, really little, but you have to realize when it’s this close to your eyeball

Sam [00:17:52]:
Yeah.

Chris [00:17:53]:
You can just look up and get some information. Yeah. It’s great. The cool thing is if you do back this, I’ll give you the process in a minute, they’re like, well, just tell us your prescription. We’ll put your prescription lenses in, which you can’t do with any of the other

Sam [00:18:08]:
Nice. Things

Chris [00:18:08]:
Nice. Nice. Built into the frame. So it gives you a bit of redundancy. Battery life is supposedly twelve hours. I don’t know how I feel about that. That’s probably not true because it’s so little. And is it Internet

Sam [00:18:24]:
capable, or is it, like how do you how does it store data?

Chris [00:18:28]:
It must be peering to your phone.

Sam [00:18:30]:
Alright. That makes sense.

Chris [00:18:31]:
Because in this example, they’re like, hey. Holiday AI. How much faster you know, you can ask it a question, and it’ll go show it on your little screen.

Sam [00:18:39]:
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It’ll be Bluetooth. You’re fine. That makes sense.

Chris [00:18:42]:
And they’ve gone with this green thing on black, so it’s quite easy to read, but not super Right. Yeah. Or distracting.

Sam [00:18:50]:
Yeah. Plus, it’s gotta be effective night and day.

Chris [00:18:54]:
Yeah. So it’s pretty interesting. I thought it was okay. They want let’s see if this sometimes this thing tells me. Okay. Okay.

Sam [00:19:04]:
Before you tell me what that’s worth

Chris [00:19:05]:
Yeah.

Sam [00:19:05]:
How much do you pay for glasses now without a fancy screen? Because I I don’t know the price of glasses.

Chris [00:19:12]:
I got progressive lenses and all up, these were $750.

Sam [00:19:17]:
Okay. Way more than I expected. I thought pair of glasses were, like, a couple hundred bucks.

Chris [00:19:22]:
Well, depends on what you Yeah. Yeah. Get lens wise.

Sam [00:19:24]:
But that’s a good gives me a frame of

Chris [00:19:26]:
risk. So these guys, early bird, if you can get in, is gonna be about 700 New Zealand dollars.

Sam [00:19:33]:
Shit. That’s alright.

Chris [00:19:34]:
Yep. That’s only if you get super early bird. Regular price

Sam [00:19:39]:
1,400.

Chris [00:19:40]:
Oh, it’s still super early bird. They don’t even have regular price yet. So they’ve got, how many days ago? It was quite a few twenty three days to go. This is coming out of San Francisco, so there’s a lot of tech people there that probably know what they’re doing. They asked for 20,000 US dollars. How much do you think they’ve got so far from 6,000 backers?

Sam [00:20:01]:
Yeah. I I reckon they’re well over a hundred.

Chris [00:20:04]:
2 point 4 million dollars.

Sam [00:20:06]:
Holy shit. Oh, yeah. That’s pretty good.

Chris [00:20:08]:
So, anyway, that was pretty cool. I quite like that one, actually.

Sam [00:20:12]:
I do. I do. That’s that’s definitely a kick start, that one.

Chris [00:20:15]:
There’s a lot of kick start projects that, are very specific for a very

Sam [00:20:20]:
Niche audience.

Chris [00:20:21]:
Niche audience, and it’s very hard for me to find something interesting or weird. So I actually spend quite a lot of time trolling for me.

Sam [00:20:26]:
I know. If you look at Dungeons and Dragons stuff Oh. They got so much I for that role playing community. Just make some dice. Like, with I know. I know. I get lost in that. Yeah.

Chris [00:20:37]:
Okay. The other one, it’s called tiny edge. Have you ever thought so you know how you can get a, electric shaver to shave your beard and stubble?

Sam [00:20:48]:
Yeah.

Chris [00:20:48]:
Yeah. And you normally have, like, multiple heads. Yeah. Like, maybe three. Some of these some of them got five or something stupid, you know, heaps of them. How about just one? And it’s about two inches tall, and it has no battery. Right? How are you feeling so far? And then what you can do is you can plug it straight into your phone, the bottom of your phone, because the phone will provide the power, or you can, plug it into a power bank with a cable, and then you just use that on your face.

Sam [00:21:19]:
Cool.

Chris [00:21:20]:
Hang on. Wait. Where’s the hang on. There’s a real there’s the guy using his phone with this little weird shaver.

Sam [00:21:27]:
Oh my god. I thought when you said plug your into your phone, like, with a long cable, and you’ve got a long cable to the phone, not not you’re shaving basically with a phone. You’re shaving with

Chris [00:21:39]:
the phone.

Sam [00:21:43]:
It plugs directly into the base of the phone, and he’s shaving with the phone. It looks

Chris [00:21:47]:
I know. Dumbass. I know. So, anyway I’m already drop kicking this one just on the call. How dare you?

Sam [00:21:53]:
You can,

Chris [00:21:55]:
you can wash the piece and it’s titanium or something, and, I just and you I don’t know if you how good of a shave I’d like

Sam [00:22:03]:
because there’s there’s an ad that’s on TV on, not on TV. On Facebook all the time now with this little, shaver. Similar sort of thing. One thing, and it and it’s just like, this guy’s got a full bed and it’s junk, and it’s perfectly straight No. No. Shape just made that. Yeah. I know.

Sam [00:22:18]:
It’s like, that looks too good to be real. And and then he throws it in the shower and

Chris [00:22:24]:
just shuts it

Sam [00:22:24]:
off and all that. So I

Chris [00:22:26]:
don’t know how what the demand is for this thing when you could just use something else cheaper, easier.

Sam [00:22:33]:
I’m gonna tell you about my purchase.

Chris [00:22:36]:
Okay. Hang on. We’ll do some figures.

Sam [00:22:37]:
Do this first.

Chris [00:22:38]:
They want a thousand dollars, US dollars. They’ve got 573 backers so far. They got twenty days to go for this weird shaver. How much have they made so far?

Sam [00:22:48]:
How much was it per

Chris [00:22:50]:
Oh, yeah. I better tell that. Hang on. It.

Sam [00:22:51]:
Just Oh, yeah.

Chris [00:22:52]:
That this will be the deciding factor, really, isn’t it? A hundred and 23 New Zealand dollars for early bird special.

Sam [00:22:59]:
See, there’s no way I’d spend that on that, honestly. Yeah. So there’s 500 back. So yeah.

Chris [00:23:06]:
They want a thousand dollars.

Sam [00:23:07]:
Yeah. So they’re they’re up to 500,000.

Chris [00:23:12]:
50 5 thousand dollars.

Sam [00:23:13]:
Thousand. That was yeah. That’s what it means.

Chris [00:23:15]:
Okay. So, yep, if you want it, you can, go find that out. We have a link.

Sam [00:23:21]:
Yeah. Not not into that. So I, surprised you to know I spend a lot of time on YouTube watching YouTube videos and podcasts and stuff.

Chris [00:23:29]:
I have not watched anything in so long because my brain is fried, but carry on.

Sam [00:23:34]:
Yeah. So, I have it going well and working quite a lot. And one of the the Midas touches been, pushing this, Henson shaving.

Chris [00:23:44]:
I love how all this marketing works really, really well for you

Sam [00:23:48]:
Oh, I know.

Chris [00:23:48]:
And on you.

Sam [00:23:49]:
On me. I I I know.

Chris [00:23:50]:
You see this thing, and I’m just like, no. Yeah. So, anyway So I think I know. You’ve already told me about

Sam [00:23:56]:
this thing. Yeah.

Chris [00:23:57]:
Off podcast. Yeah.

Sam [00:23:59]:
But yeah. So I, I’ve been I’m in and airing about it for ages because I had really cheap razor, like, you know, from the

Chris [00:24:08]:
I see. Whatever.

Sam [00:24:10]:
Cracker Jacks or

Chris [00:24:10]:
whatever it’s called.

Sam [00:24:11]:
And so and and it it was horrible. It’s horrible. It’s like ripping my skin.

Chris [00:24:16]:
I’m like, okay.

Sam [00:24:16]:
I’m gonna when I get paid for I think it was when I got paid for, the TEDx thing Yeah. Because I got a decent whack of money. I’m gonna get this thing. Because it was an investment, So I got this, aluminum Henson shavings made in Canada, machined, straight blade ray or the, you put a proper Single blade razor. Blade razor thing in an into it, and it bends its and keeps under tension. It’s really good. Yep. So it cost me Yeah.

Sam [00:24:45]:
With everything. So that’s the thing, a hundred razor blades, which will last me three years, and, the shaving

Chris [00:24:54]:
gel foam. Yep. Okay.

Sam [00:24:56]:
Hundred and 90 US dollars.

Chris [00:24:58]:
A hundred and 90 US? Yes. So what’s that? Almost 400?

Sam [00:25:02]:
No. Yeah. 340. Plus shipping? No. They included the

Chris [00:25:06]:
shipping. Okay. So you’ve got this $3,300 how do you feel, though,

Sam [00:25:10]:
about that? Great. I love that

Chris [00:25:12]:
razor. Good.

Sam [00:25:13]:
I am absolutely stoked with that razor. We may be using those razors as sponsors on this podcast, But, honestly, because I think it’s great.

Chris [00:25:22]:
Okay. Very good.

Sam [00:25:24]:
As as as as

Chris [00:25:25]:
Do they only have this one product?

Sam [00:25:28]:
I mean, yeah, they there’s 20 colors in it and that sort of thing. That’s their main thing. They are an engineering firm.

Chris [00:25:35]:
Yeah.

Sam [00:25:35]:
And they, you know, like, part of their blurb is they they’ve machined items on the, space station or

Chris [00:25:42]:
Oh, I see.

Sam [00:25:43]:
Stuff like that. So they’re an engineering firm.

Chris [00:25:45]:
Yeah.

Sam [00:25:45]:
But, the blurb on it is pretty cool, and the way it works made sense to me because my grandfather had one of those razors. I used to use one. He died. I ended up with his razor. I used it all this time.

Chris [00:25:55]:
Well, because they used to be around. Yeah. Yeah. I vaguely remember one from my childhood. Not from me, of course.

Sam [00:26:00]:
It wasn’t that good because and and the whole point is if it’s not put in under tension

Chris [00:26:06]:
With the right angles?

Sam [00:26:07]:
With the right angles, it, it’s like a diving board flying around, and it just scrapes your skin and and and that’s what causes all the cuts and stuff. Yeah. This is brilliant. Okay. Anyway sorry.

Chris [00:26:21]:
No. You it’s good. Good. I’ve learned something.

Sam [00:26:25]:
Yeah. But it’s one of those things where I’m like, this is so good. If I won a million dollars, all my friends would be getting one of these, like, that sort of thing.

Chris [00:26:34]:
We have time for one more story. Yes.

Sam [00:26:35]:
We can talk about about the Danish petition because I think it’s hilarious.

Chris [00:26:38]:
Okay.

Sam [00:26:40]:
Which I haven’t really read fully. I just I just love the, headline more than anything else. So the Dane Danes have put a petition together.

Chris [00:26:49]:
Okay.

Sam [00:26:49]:
And it’s attract hundreds and thousands of signatures.

Chris [00:26:53]:
So they’ve all backed it?

Sam [00:26:54]:
Yeah. Yep. So the what they are is they, the petition is, crowdfunding to buy California.

Chris [00:27:04]:
Okay. Okay. Good. Good.

Sam [00:27:08]:
And it lays out a number of reasons why Denmark would benefit from the muted purchase of California, including improved weather, a secure supply of avocados, and tech dominance.

Chris [00:27:18]:
That’s probably the it’s probably if you were to buy a steak, that would be the one to buy.

Sam [00:27:24]:
Well, it’s probably the most valuable one.

Chris [00:27:26]:
Yeah. True.

Sam [00:27:28]:
Possibly the New York state, whatever it is, New York, but, but yeah. No. California is probably the the most valuable.

Chris [00:27:36]:
So, obviously, nothing’s had to happen with that. It’s just a

Sam [00:27:39]:
Oh, yeah. It’s it’s totally satirical, but I like that, that response. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That’s That’s

Chris [00:27:46]:
very good. Do you have anything coming up this week?

Sam [00:27:50]:
No. I think I’m gonna be doing lots of work. I am going the plan is if I say this out loud now, then I’m I’m gonna be held to

Chris [00:27:59]:
it. Okay.

Sam [00:28:00]:
The plan is I’m going to karate next week.

Chris [00:28:04]:
What day?

Sam [00:28:07]:
I think it’s Wednesday and Friday. Wednesday and Friday are the days. I Okay. Oh, I have to check. Okay.

Chris [00:28:13]:
Yeah.

Sam [00:28:13]:
I know Friday is one of them. It’s either Wednesday and Friday or Thursday.

Chris [00:28:17]:
And how long does a class or session or whatever you call it go for?

Sam [00:28:21]:
I think it’s an hour, hour and a half. Okay. Yeah. My old days, it was two hours. There’s no way I’d last that. There’s there’s a good chance I’m not gonna last an hour.

Chris [00:28:30]:
I think well, I think you’ve been doing a lot of fitness stuff, and you’ve lost a lot of weight and stuff, but I think the only thing that’s gonna screw up is that hip.

Sam [00:28:37]:
Yeah. I know. And it’s been painful this morning.

Chris [00:28:40]:
Need to get on a list or something for that.

Sam [00:28:42]:
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But, but, yeah, I’m gonna go along. It’ll be good to, I gotta see if I can fit into the g. Get well, the gear’s alright. The belt’s the proper

Chris [00:28:50]:
Oh, okay. Okay. You might have to get another belt.

Sam [00:28:54]:
Because it’s in so in a black bit. Like, that fit longer.

Chris [00:28:58]:
Yeah. Of course. That makes sense. Oh, well, look forward to seeing how, that goes.

Sam [00:29:03]:
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Chris [00:29:04]:
Until next time. I’m Sam. I’m Chris. See you. Bye.
