Job Description

Azura Literacy is currently seeking volunteers to be trained as reading tutors for our virtual program.

Azura Literacy's virtual reading tutor program pairs volunteers with elementary students who are behind grade level in reading to help improve their reading skills and instill a love of reading. Volunteers meet with students on Zoom, sharing digital children's books and interactive tools and activities to help them read independently and develop a love of reading.

This program is virtual, so volunteers can serve from anywhere!

Volunteer requirements:

• at least 18 years old
• have access to a computer and reliable, high-speed internet connection
• proficient in use of web browsers/navigating multiple tabs, using Zoom meetings/screen sharing/annotation tools
• pass a literacy screener
• have Level 1 fingerprint clearance: either a current, valid card or willing to apply through DPS - $65 application fee covered by Azura Literacy; volunteer responsible for $8.25 scanning fee
• ability to be reliable and punctual
• interview with the Director/demonstrate web & Zoom proficiency
• complete self-paced e-trainings (12-15 hours total) & attend live Zoom prep meeting (2 hrs.)
• Commit to at least 1.5 hours per week (two 45-minute sessions) for at least one semester (Fall or Spring - 16 wks, Summer - 8 wks)
• Commit to attend monthly volunteer meeting (1 hour/month)

Sessions are on Monday/Wednesday and Tuesday/Thursday every 45 minutes between 3:30pm - 6:30pm.
