Sam [00:00:21]:
Hello and welcome to the Chris and Sam podcast.
Chris [00:00:24]:
I’m Chris.
Sam [00:00:24]:
I’m Sam. This is a special episode last week. If you’re following along and you’re not too far behind, you’ll know that we’re changing to a Wednesday publishing schedule. Yeah, this is just a very small episode where we’re doing a kickstart or dropkick. Yep. And then we will be dropping in your feed on Wednesday mornings. Apparently, according to the podcast guru, dude, that’s when we should be doing it. I’m going to crack.
Chris [00:00:48]:
Only took us 12 years to get.
Sam [00:00:50]:
I’m going to crack up. If somehow this just makes the numbers go up for no other reason apart
Chris [00:00:55]:
from the day, it would be crazy. That’d be hilarious.
Sam [00:00:58]:
Okay, so kickstart or dropkick. I am starting with flossr F L O S S R. It’s a better way to floss.
Chris [00:01:07]:
Okay.
Sam [00:01:08]:
It works with any dental floss. It’s built to last a lifetime. It’s stainless steel, it’s dental approved, zero plastic and it’s coming from Gothenburg, Sweden. Okay, so it’s a foldable metal dental floss thing.
Chris [00:01:25]:
Yeah. Dental floss holder. Yeah.
Sam [00:01:28]:
When you go on the Kickstart website, this thing apparently was funded in 10 minutes. Once they published it, 10 minutes later they were fully funded.
Chris [00:01:39]:
So have they done this sort of thing before, these guys? I don’t know because usually when something like that drops in and, and people and it’s funded really quickly, it’s because they either have a history or they are a well known company.
Sam [00:01:53]:
They must have done something previously. It has a built in refillable spool.
Chris [00:01:58]:
Oh, it’s. Oh okay.
Sam [00:01:59]:
So it’s pretty good. You’re not doing every little piece works with any floss, any brand quite like that. You’re not stuck with anything. They do sell a refill if you want it, but that’s okay. Everyday carry. Apparently you can just flick it out like a crazy person.
Chris [00:02:14]:
Oh yeah. So it’s on a key ring type thing.
Sam [00:02:16]:
I mean, yeah, it’s not too bad.
Chris [00:02:18]:
So it’s way better than I thought. When you first mentioned it, I was like meh. Cuz. Cuz I’m like, people will prefer. What do you call it, the aqua pick things and stuff.
Sam [00:02:28]:
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Chris [00:02:29]:
But the whole thing that it’s portable, you can put it on a key ring, take it with you, flip it out. Yeah, no, that’s pretty good.
Sam [00:02:36]:
There’s 20 days to go on this thing. And the basic one, because they do different colors as well if you want. Which. Which is pretty cool. But the basic one is 34American dollars.
Chris [00:02:48]:
So that’s stainless steel.
Sam [00:02:50]:
Yeah. And that’s the early bird price. 20 days to go. So that’s how much it’ll cost you. Now. They wanted 17,700 New Zealand dollars.
Chris [00:03:00]:
Yeah. And you’ve already told me they’ve meet that.
Sam [00:03:03]:
Apparently. So. Yeah. According to this. So how much have they raised?
Chris [00:03:08]:
So. And how long did you say? 17 days.
Sam [00:03:10]:
20. 20 days to go.
Chris [00:03:11]:
20 days to go. Okay, so halfway through.
Sam [00:03:14]:
Yeah.
Chris [00:03:16]:
30 bucks apart.
Sam [00:03:18]:
Look at you doing math, Pretending to do math.
Chris [00:03:20]:
Pretending to do math. I say $250,000.
Sam [00:03:24]:
565,000.
Chris [00:03:26]:
That’s still closer than I normally get.
Sam [00:03:30]:
I’m halfway out of all the kickstyle drop kicks. This might be one of the things I’m thinking of maybe getting.
Chris [00:03:35]:
Yeah.
Sam [00:03:36]:
Like, it seems useful.
Chris [00:03:37]:
Yeah, no, it definitely.
Sam [00:03:39]:
Instead of some of the other, you
Chris [00:03:40]:
are a little gadgets, man. Like, you like your little gadgets and keyrings.
Sam [00:03:45]:
That’s right. That’s right. I mean, they’re tapping into something there.
Chris [00:03:48]:
Yeah.
Sam [00:03:48]:
And it’s actually useful.
Chris [00:03:49]:
Yeah. 100.
Sam [00:03:50]:
It’s not like a fidget toy or like some little knife that you stab people with anyway.
Chris [00:03:57]:
You’d take the little knife that you stab people with, though. You would?
Sam [00:03:59]:
Yeah, I would. Oh, I think. I don’t know if I’d buy one if they gave me one.
Chris [00:04:04]:
Yeah, yeah.
Sam [00:04:04]:
The next one is book scan. And if you don’t. Yeah. And if you don’t know what that is, it’s all in one smart scanning solution.
Chris [00:04:16]:
Right. So if I’m guessing correctly, it’s like one of those cameras on a stand that looks down and you scan each page of your book and so is that what we’re talking about?
Sam [00:04:27]:
Exactly.
Chris [00:04:28]:
All right, cool.
Sam [00:04:29]:
You’ve got it.
Chris [00:04:30]:
Sweet.
Sam [00:04:30]:
I’ve got a funny feeling, though, because
Chris [00:04:33]:
there’s a whole bunch of them you can get on AliExpress. I’m not sure what quality they are.
Sam [00:04:38]:
I think this is a bracket that holds your phone and you get the software and it’s got. Yeah. With powerful software. Does it tell me? No. Subscription fee, unlimited scans, curve flattening, handwriting export PDF, blah, blah, blah, Remove fingerprint, all this good stuff. It. Yeah, I’m pretty certain it is a bracket that holds your phone.
Chris [00:05:03]:
You’ve got to supply the phone.
Sam [00:05:05]:
I believe so in my limited. Limited research. Oh, yeah, It Works with any smartphone. There we go. So they’ve got an AliExpress bracket. And the promise, I guess, is that they’re gonna build some software which may or may not already exist. Actually, I assume I can get the software now and get my own bracket. Actually, this might be really dumb.
Chris [00:05:27]:
I don’t know. I already think it’s pretty dumb. Well, I don’t know. I had thought about getting one of these things because the idea of scanning in some book stuff is actually quite useful.
Sam [00:05:37]:
Yeah.
Chris [00:05:37]:
You know, digitizing some of the stuff that I’ve got.
Sam [00:05:41]:
So it seems like you get, you pay for it and that’s it. You get lifetime deal plus the bracket. I guess if this sounds like something you want, we’ll have the link in our show notes. 100 and oh, is this New Zealand dollars? 134 New Zealand dollars for a bracket to hold your phone? Pretty much.
Chris [00:06:02]:
Well, for the software. And so I have problems with this because you get the software. You know what this is like, right? Yeah, you get the software and a year’s down the track. Like, new phones come out and it’s like, oh, yeah, it doesn’t work with the new phones.
Sam [00:06:18]:
Yes. We got a picture of the factory building the bracket thing. Cool. That makes sense. Every part has been thoughtfully designed. They’ve just reused a weird little microphone tripod, it seems. And these guys are behind it, so that’s good. Okay, money, Here we go.
Sam [00:06:36]:
58 days to go.
Chris [00:06:38]:
So it’s only, it’s only just launched.
Sam [00:06:41]:
You can get in, get that early bird deal.
Chris [00:06:43]:
I’m gonna say it’s bugger all, and I don’t think it’s gonna go.
Sam [00:06:46]:
They want to raise 2,000? Yeah, $2,154. That’s all they need.
Chris [00:06:55]:
And 100 bucks a pop. Yeah, 130 or whatever it was. Yeah. I don’t think they’ve got there. Well, at this point, I, I’d be surprised if they sold a couple. So I’m going to say 300 bucks and you’re going to tell me it’s millions. But anyway.
Sam [00:07:09]:
12,000.
Chris [00:07:11]:
It’s not overwhelming.
Sam [00:07:12]:
No, no, I, I, I don’t want to blow you. I don’t want to. Yeah, blow you. Blow your mind.
Chris [00:07:17]:
Well, I mean, they got their goal, but I, I don’t think it’s that big a deal. I don’t think that, I don’t think there’s a, that good a deal. I mean, I’ve seen ones that you plug into your computer with a usb. They’ve already got the camera. It’s got the thing and the software comes with that. And software goes into the computer. I trust that more than mobile software, if you know what I mean. So I just don’t think there’s the market there.
Sam [00:07:42]:
I don’t know. Good luck to them. But as you know, Kickstarter, Drop kick. We’re probably going to drop kick that one.
Chris [00:07:47]:
Yeah, I would drop kick that one, I think. But yeah, Flosser, you might even be investing yourself.

Sam [00:08:11]:
Yeah, there we. If someone reaches out to you that we don’t know. Best story ever, it’ll be like what it would be like. How did the podcast host get murdered? What a doco.
