Sam [00:00:00]:
Hello, and welcome to episode 466 of the Chris and Sam podcast.

Chris [00:00:26]:
I’m Chris.

Sam [00:00:27]:
And I’m Sam. Welcome along to your weekly fix of, well, us.

Chris [00:00:31]:
Weekly fix of us.

Sam [00:00:33]:
Yeah. I don’t know what else you’re expecting. It’s just 2 randoms that made a podcast 10 years ago started a podcast 10 years ago And, have been doing it weekly ever since.

Chris [00:00:44]:
Yeah.

Sam [00:00:44]:
And, grinding it out, waiting for our big break.

Chris [00:00:49]:
It just sounds so sad when you put it

Sam [00:00:51]:
like that. I’m not. I’m not. I’m no. No. I no. I’m good. I’m good.

Sam [00:00:56]:
What’s been happening this week for you?

Chris [00:00:59]:
I I I’ve had I had a pretty good, start to the week, actually. I well, actually, I think it was Tuesday morning. So I don’t know if I mentioned this, but at the beginning of the year, I decided I was going to reach out to a bunch of people and do some effectively cold calling. So invite them to jump on Zoom with me for 20 minutes and just have a chat to them. Yep. And I’m and I’m talking to these people that I don’t know who they are. And I I all over the world? Yeah. From all over the world.

Chris [00:01:28]:
Mostly Canada for whatever reason sam to be the majority in Canada for Canada

Sam [00:01:32]:
is good.

Chris [00:01:33]:
Just randomly. But, yeah. So, anyway, I and I’ve had some good things. I’ve got a, podcast I’m guesting on next week. It was gonna be this week, but it it was a

Sam [00:01:42]:
That’s right.

Chris [00:01:42]:
The the thing’s it’s next week, which is cool. But, yeah, on Tuesday, I woke up. The alarm woke me up or a different Alarm wake me up, and I was like, oh, what’s that? Oh, crap. I’ve got this meeting with Shauna, which I’d made 4 weeks previous. Like, I’d forgotten all about it. So, not not Shauna. Sorry. Larissa.

Chris [00:02:02]:
Larissa. So I was like, okay. I’ll get up and do this. And, basically, this this pitch because I the thing is I’m saying, I don’t have a pitch. I got nothing to sell. I don’t know. I don’t know what I’m gonna do. This is the thing I’m thinking is important this year is AI is going to flood the market with content that’s gonna devalue everyone’s courses, So I think that there has to be something that’s a lot more implementation based.

Chris [00:02:27]:
Whatever we do with them, they go away with something. It’s gonna be the differentiation. I wanna go along there. I’m looking to do some collaboration with something, but I thought we’d chat and see what you think. Anyway, It went off like a house on fire. It was awesome. She goes, funny enough, I’ve just decided that I’m going to get a speaker code. So this Woman runs, I think it’s called Next Page, and they do, the authors, author coach.

Chris [00:02:56]:
Pretty much all these people I was picking on was author, Mitch. You know, they’re helping authors. She goes, I was just decided to do get a, Speaker coach, and I’ve been talking about this guy. She gave me a name, who I hadn’t really heard of. And, you know, we’re just about to the contract. He hadn’t done the contract yet, so I was like, oh, that’s cool. And then we went through The stuff, and then we did this big brainstorm. And then, yeah, she goes, can you send me a proposal through on what you just Yes.

Chris [00:03:23]:
So I did the next day, and the contract should be coming next week. So it should be worth Maybe around $15 a year, and it’s a 2 year contract. So

Sam [00:03:34]:
Very good. That’s excellent.

Chris [00:03:36]:
That’s a great start to the day. So all of this is over by 8 o’clock, and then I’m jumping on work going, how’s everybody else’s morning going? Because I’m happy.

Sam [00:03:45]:
Nice. Yeah. Just talking about that real quick, the AI thing and all of that and, content, Facebook has turned off the APIs for Facebook Groups.

Chris [00:03:58]:
Oh, so people aren’t can’t sam them with a AI content?

Sam [00:04:03]:
No. It’s not that. It’s more along the lines you can’t use a lot of tools now to talk to your Facebook groups. They think Facebook is gonna start charging businesses to use those groups. And you’ve got The talk about All these people are building businesses after business on these other platforms, which they do not own. So any day, Facebook can turn it all off.

Chris [00:04:30]:
Yeah. Yep. So that’s

Sam [00:04:31]:
the same with podcasting as well. Like, this is why we have the Chris and Sam podcast .com. Yeah. A lot of people do not have a website.

Chris [00:04:39]:
It’s crazy. It’s interesting because I’ve just been looking at that randomly myself For for for what I’m planning to do this year, and community’s a big thing. And Yeah. So the 2 places I’ve been looking at is school and circle. Yes. And because I know I I’ve been in communities on both of those. And. Obviously, schools I mean, Sam Evans is a a Kiwi originally.

Chris [00:05:04]:
I don’t know if he still counts as a Kiwi.

Sam [00:05:06]:
Oh, right.

Chris [00:05:07]:
Yeah. He’s a Kiwi, and, of course, Alex Himosi is just

Sam [00:05:11]:
He’s all over it.

Chris [00:05:12]:
It’s all over it, and and, lots of people have been getting to me. It’s just it’s just a little expensive. Circle has a a lower priced Start it. You can start at $49 US a month, but the basic thing is 99, same as school. School’s just the and price, 99 a month. And Alright. Like yeah.

Sam [00:05:34]:
Don’t overthink it. Start small.

Chris [00:05:36]:
Yeah. Yeah. Well, I the thing is there’s no point in starting Buying a community platform and having 1 or 2 people in it. Exactly. It just it it it’s the opposite of good. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Chris [00:05:49]:
Yeah. So I have to wait till I build up a a community using whatever else and then and and migrate them to that. But, yeah, it it was interesting looking through that. Oh. Moving on.

Sam [00:06:01]:
At the end of last week’s podcast, I said I might get my car back. We finished recording, and then I had a phone call from the panel beater. Yeah. And the car was ready the next day. So I went and picked that up. It smells of industrial solvent, So that’s a nice smell to get into every day. It’s slowly going away because I’m I think they just replaced the window themselves, not an actual glass person. So god knows what they’ve used or how they’ve done it, or they’ve glued

Chris [00:06:32]:
the center console. It’s one of the ones that don’t and Yeah.

Sam [00:06:35]:
It’s the little quarter light Yeah.

Chris [00:06:37]:
Yeah. Yeah. In the back. Yep.

Sam [00:06:38]:
So I’m not sure. So it’s all good. Next week, it’s getting a car alarm put on it, so I’ve organized The. From some some and guy that The, suggested, I said, who’s who who do you suggest for this sort of thing? Because, they were like, because my car chris, like, the 3rd most popular car to steal in New Zealand now. So I’m looking Really? Yeah. Yeah. It’s like Oh. Toyota Aqua, Something else and then a and then and then a Toyota Corolla station wagon.

Chris [00:07:06]:
Oh, wow.

Sam [00:07:07]:
Anyway, because I said the guy, there was another one on the The, and they didn’t take that one. And he said, oh, they keep taking the JAP import ones because they don’t have immobilizers. New Zealand, you do. And I was like, oh. He goes, you really should think about an alarm. He goes, we’ve had 1 car in here 5 times in the last 12 months.

Chris [00:07:25]:
Oh my god.

Sam [00:07:27]:
They just keep taking it. So I rang this random dude. They’ve got this guy that that works out of his house, And he they said he’s really, really good, and I was like and he I was talking to him. We were I like I missed his phone call even though I’m sitting here, and I just get cell coverage. So we had a 5 minute conversation about how cell coverage is just worse than it’s ever been. Like, I was just riffing with this dude. He sounds He sounds exactly like Ryan, which is which is a bit creepy.

Chris [00:07:56]:
Funny.

Sam [00:07:57]:
Yeah. So anyway, Sorting that out, and, that was most of my week.

Chris [00:08:01]:
Well, you got your car. Yeah. Yeah. No. That’s cool. That’s cool.

Sam [00:08:04]:
And I got my watch from Garmin. They replaced it.

Chris [00:08:07]:
Oh, nice. Oh, that looks good. Sweet. Sweet. Hey. Randomly, I’m just gonna mention this because I was watching it yesterday. Mhmm. It’s a, DW, which is Ducevelli is the, German news.

Sam [00:08:21]:
Of course. We know it well. Yeah.

Chris [00:08:22]:
Yeah. Yeah.

Sam [00:08:23]:
I don’t even know why you’re explaining this.

Chris [00:08:24]:
Yeah. Okay. So they they do some, documentaries. There’s this great documentary on on on YouTube. It’s it’s only been put up in the last couple of days or something.

Sam [00:08:36]:
Okay.

Chris [00:08:36]:
And I I’ve called it zombie wells. That’s not what the doco is called. But, basically, it’s what happens. I never even considered this my entire life. What happens to an oil well when they finish it?

Sam [00:08:51]:
I thought they supposed to plug it. Yeah. I thought they plugged it and filled it.

Chris [00:08:55]:
Yes and no. Okay. Supposed to, There’s 38,000,000, wells around the world

Sam [00:09:03]:
That’s crazy.

Chris [00:09:04]:
Yeah. Close and abandoned.

Sam [00:09:06]:
Yeah.

Chris [00:09:08]:
Possibly up to a third of those have been properly plugged.

Sam [00:09:12]:
Okay.

Chris [00:09:13]:
The rest are not, And they they looked at things in the bottom of the North Sea. They looked in the states. They looked at, there was a couple other countries, France and somewhere else in this doco. Yeah. And, you know, they get the the what are they? Infrared cameras or whatever, and they see the methane pouring out of it?

Sam [00:09:33]:
Oh, right. Yeah. Okay.

Chris [00:09:37]:
38,000 kilotons of 38,000 tons of methane a day going into the atmosphere from all

Sam [00:09:45]:
out.

Chris [00:09:45]:
This is what chris estimate. I was like, oh my god. The it was just I just found it fascinating. It’s a

Sam [00:09:51]:
untapped potential, though, to get The methane or not? Did The say that? I don’t know.

Chris [00:09:57]:
They didn’t even talk of it in those terms. It’s Just because people have been, dying and, getting really sick.

Sam [00:10:04]:
Because,

Chris [00:10:05]:
we in America, They, every man and his dog, if they, oh, I think I can drill a hole here, and we can get some oil out. And there’s Towns built on these things now. Yeah. Yeah. Houses have just started blowing up because the methane’s been seeping through into their basement and suddenly, boom, And the house has been blowing up.

Sam [00:10:26]:
That’s crazy.

Chris [00:10:27]:
Yeah. It’s great great doco. So we’ll have a link to the doco, on YouTube. It’s free to watch, Elaine. You know? But, yeah, it’s really cool. Anyway, I just went to check because I watched it last night.

Sam [00:10:37]:
Talking about AI, earlier, if you If you were into looking at birds, would you want your binoculars to have AI?

Chris [00:10:48]:
That’s an interesting idea.

Sam [00:10:50]:
Yeah. Swarovski, That’s how I’m gonna pronounce it. They have brought out a pair of binoculars with a AI powered system in it. It’ll cost you about Just under 5,000 US dollars, and it can identify 9,000 plus birds.

Chris [00:11:06]:
Wow.

Sam [00:11:06]:
Yeah. It’s, integrated operating and object recognization system. They’re the only ones that have done it. Takes about 5 seconds to display the names of the bird that you’re looking at.

Chris [00:11:18]:
Can you record with that?

Sam [00:11:20]:
It doesn’t mention that, but, that’d be pretty cool.

Chris [00:11:23]:
Well, could and and the reason I say that is

Sam [00:11:25]:
what I’d

Chris [00:11:25]:
wanna do if you looked at something that didn’t come up, I’d go, record because it’s not in the 9,000. I’d wanted I wanna wanna show that to somebody.

Sam [00:11:36]:
Actually, just you just reminded me of something. I don’t have it listed, Noted down, so I’m gonna try and find it. They and a bird The think that they thought was extinct, But they’ve put up a bloody reward for it.

Chris [00:11:52]:
So somebody sort of spotted it, but they haven’t got definite definitive, Evidence

Sam [00:11:58]:
Oh, I literally just yeah. Okay. So they’ve offered $10,000 for a rare South And, Kokako, possibly seen in the Southland, and they thought it was extinct. They listed it as extinct in 2013. Doc reclassified its status as data deficient. That’s a government term for you, isn’t it? So they’re trying to

Chris [00:12:26]:
The Schrodinger’s box of extinction.

Sam [00:12:29]:
They yeah. They’ve yeah. Exactly. They’ve had a possible a possible sighting maybe, But the comments online were like, people are gonna go crazy if there’s a $10,000 reward. They’ll just start, like, Probably and stuff. I don’t know.

Chris [00:12:44]:
Yeah. But what if you go and kill the last one to bring it in to show them?

Sam [00:12:48]:
Exactly. No. I know. It’s crazy.

Chris [00:12:50]:
It’s a dumb Stick over there.

Sam [00:12:51]:
So this Yeah.

Chris [00:12:52]:
I mean, if it’s if they if they said $10,000 for a a definitive photo.

Sam [00:12:58]:
I think that’s what it is. Yeah. It is The, but, you know, people are gonna go to the extreme. 1 person, Rees Buckingham, he’s part of the trust. He’s been looking at it for more he’s been searching for it for more than 40 years.

Chris [00:13:13]:
And he wasn’t the one that found it?

Sam [00:13:16]:
I don’t know. Just hang on. Who did actually try and see this? They just said there was a recent possible sighting.

Chris [00:13:25]:
Actually, just on The AI thing just because you reminded The, and and this is not something I had noted either. I saw this pretty interesting little, clip on LinkedIn, and it’s just the security footage effectively, but it’s so it’s high up camera looking at a cafe. And behind the the the counter is 3 or 4. I think there’s 4 people working, baroosters. And then On the other side, so the count count sort of splits the the screen, if you like, on on the right, and then there’s, the people sitting down. And this AI camera, counts how many coffees the staff have made Yeah. So you can see their productivity. 1 was on 20.

Chris [00:14:07]:
1 was on 10. Lucy had 2. You know, it’s like Lucy’s a dick or or she only just came on shift. Who knows?

Sam [00:14:15]:
Doesn’t matter.

Chris [00:14:16]:
Doesn’t sam. And then on the left, it had all the people at the tables, and it had above their head how long they’ve been sitting there. 1 was there for 1 hour 25 minutes with their laptop. A couple of people The 15, 1 at 2, and I’m like, that’s pretty cool. I still don’t know whether I appreciate that being in that thing with that pointing at me. I’m not sure.

Sam [00:14:42]:
But it’s it’s happening it’s happening everywhere. So

Chris [00:14:45]:
Yeah.

Sam [00:14:46]:
Like, check out the self checkouts at Countdown. Have a camera look down on you now

Chris [00:14:51]:
to

Sam [00:14:51]:
make sure you scan everything. And if you don’t, they come in and it they tells him, and The, hit you up about it.

Chris [00:14:58]:
Oh, wow. Perfect.

Sam [00:15:00]:
Hey. You, we’re halfway through the podcast, and we haven’t done a shout out to Warren who I’ve never met.

Chris [00:15:06]:
I wanna shout out with Warren because I caught up with Warren the other week, and I forgot to mention him last week, just because I hadn’t written and down. But, yeah, Warren, I met at the, Hamilton Hamilton, comedy club, and we’ve sort of caught up a couple of times. And then, yeah, Went and had a coffee with him. So and just basically talked about what he’s up to and stuff like that. But one of the things was interesting was he’s, dealing with the men’s shed, is one of the reasons he has trouble on Wednesday coming out to the Hamilton. And I’d never heard of it, but you’ve heard of it. Yeah. And, it sounds like a pretty cool thing.

Chris [00:15:40]:
I’d I’d be somewhat tempted to check it out at some time, I said, but, yeah. So his the men’s shed that they’re working with I think it’s Norton, I think he said. They they’re doing coffins, creating coffins, so a whole bunch of random people, few retired people, whatever, and they go and and and make things for people. So The in this case, they’re making coffins for young, Small people, children, I think. Small coffins. But, yeah, it was it was fascinating. Anyway, so shout out to Warren anyway.

Sam [00:16:16]:
Excellent. Hope you’re, listening to the podcast and, doing well.

Chris [00:16:21]:
Yes. Yes. Yes. Hey. Have you heard all this drama about Taylor Swift in the Super Bowl?

Sam [00:16:26]:
I don’t really know what’s going on. I I know I know that they had all I know is they had to remove her name from X, formerly Twitter.

Chris [00:16:36]:
Oh, really?

Sam [00:16:37]:
That’s that’s an AI thing. So I think

Chris [00:16:40]:
I think yeah. That’s a different thing. Yeah. Yeah.

Sam [00:16:42]:
Yeah. So that’s AI adult content with her face, I guess, old body. I don’t know what it is. And apparently, it must be really good. Oh, I don’t know. Lots of people were searching for it so much so that Twitter had to turn that off. But I also know something happened with Super Bowl, and I assume that’s to do with her boyfriend.

Chris [00:17:01]:
Right. Yep. So Travis Kelsey is a player for the Chiefs, and she’s been going along to these Chiefs games to Support a boyfriend whenever she’s in town. Yep. And half and the world’s going nuts about this. All these 12 year old girls around the, United States have suddenly discovered that there’s this thing called football. The, it’s crazy. And so this has all been going on, and then the Chiefs have made the finals.

Chris [00:17:34]:
So they’re in the Super Bowl versus the 40 niners. Yes.

Sam [00:17:37]:
Which is Now this

Chris [00:17:39]:
is not a big surprise. The Chiefs have made it to the finals, I wanna say, I I may be wrong, Four times in the last 6 years or whatever, something like that. So, like, they’re up there. They’re they’re they’re the crusaders of whatever.

Sam [00:17:52]:
Consistently good.

Chris [00:17:53]:
They’re consistently good. But the, what happened is a couple of years ago, Taylor Swift, who has never been political at all And and still isn’t particularly, but she came out, and endorsed, Biden before the election debacle. Alright.

Sam [00:18:13]:
Yeah.

Chris [00:18:13]:
Because she thought Trump was terrible, which doesn’t make her a political hack. It just makes her intelligent As far as I can see. Yeah. Anyway, so right now, the, the MAGA MAGA guys, all of the Republicans absolutely lose It’s shit. And it’s hilarious. They’re going, this is what’s happening. The deep state have worked it so The, They’ve hooked up this guy, Travis Yep. Kelsey and Taylor Swift.

Chris [00:18:43]:
Taylor’s not really a star. They’ve made her a star. They’ve made this guy. They engineered it so that the Chiefs have got into the finals. And it’s also once he wins, he’s gonna win. He’s gonna get a touchdown because it’s scripted for that to happen. And then Taylor’s gonna come out, and she’s gonna endorse Biden, and they’re gonna win the election. And it’s all a head job.

Chris [00:19:05]:
It’s a con. Yeah.

Sam [00:19:07]:
Yeah. I guess. This seems legit. Seems legit.

Chris [00:19:12]:
But what got me most of The, was The ticket prices so I was like, oh, that’s hilarious. But The, you know, I actually looked this up because I was like, what? That can’t be right.

Sam [00:19:26]:
Yeah.

Chris [00:19:26]:
So the do you know what the ticket price is to go to

Sam [00:19:30]:
A lot. For? A lot. Have a guess? $500.

Chris [00:19:38]:
Prices start at 6,751 each when buying a pair. Prices climbed to over 7,000 when opting for just a single ticket.

Sam [00:19:48]:
What? Oh, really?

Chris [00:19:49]:
We’ve spotted ticket kits at, much more reasonable altitude price between and. So

Sam [00:19:57]:
Woah. I didn’t realize it was that much. Okay.

Chris [00:19:59]:
I know. It’s it’s

Sam [00:20:00]:
insane. I know.

Chris [00:20:02]:
It’s a big deal. Capacity of 65,000. And. The comparatively down, and, seating capacity of 65,000. So you do the numbers.

Sam [00:20:14]:
I know it’s big for the advertisers, and everyone wants to see the Super Bowl commercials. Yeah.

Chris [00:20:20]:
I I just I never expected it. I That just blew my mind because somebody said something. I think it was Jimmy Kimmel or one of those, said something about $12,000 tickets. I’m like, whatever. And so I actually went in and looked up this, the ticket prices. I was like, holy snot. That’s ridiculous. But I suppose they’ve got enough rich people in the States that, You know? Yeah.

Sam [00:20:43]:
It is. It’s the most expensive ticket ever, they said, in their history.

Chris [00:20:48]:
Oh my god. And while we’re on the Taylor Swift thing, there’s a Brisbane school has planned to change the exam times so that you year 12 students can attend the Swift concert.

Sam [00:21:00]:
Yep. Probably should do that. It’s a bit bit crazy. That’s a good idea.

Chris [00:21:07]:
Okay. So, I got a couple of other things. We got time?

Sam [00:21:13]:
Yeah.

Chris [00:21:13]:
Alright. So parent story. K. I I I saw this, and I I’d the story itself, the the the web story isn’t great. It basically was like, After going viral for their ability to swear, a group of parrots will be introduced to a larger group of proper parrots with the hope that a change in social scenery will curb the bad mouthed birds.

Sam [00:21:35]:
Don’t Don’t don’t they teach the other ones? Well, they because The was what

Chris [00:21:39]:
I was gonna sam. Because have I ever told you the story about my uncle John?

Sam [00:21:44]:
I don’t well, I don’t know. What? It’s an even

Chris [00:21:47]:
better Alright. So, John, when he this is about 40 years ago. So he’s in his twenties. He worked for, Sanyo, and, you know, he he was he he Finished, 2 apprenticeships. He did his electrical apprenticeship and his electronics apprenticeship.

Sam [00:22:06]:
Okay.

Chris [00:22:06]:
And he had a fairly technical job, doing really well, Working and Sanyo, and they had this national conference. I forget where it was. He was staying in a hotel, so he He lived in Christchurch, so it wasn’t Christchurch. He was staying somewhere. Yeah. And the hotel had a Big cage in the lobby with all these parrots. Actually, it might have been overseas, this thing, actually, now I’m thinking about

Sam [00:22:32]:
it. Yeah. Okay. Sounds good.

Chris [00:22:33]:
All these all these parrots all these accounts. And so, you know, 40 years ago, one of the cutting edge things that you could buy is a little tape recorder TikTok.

Sam [00:22:44]:
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Chris [00:22:45]:
So But using tape? Using tape, literally. So and night because my uncle John used to play pranks all the freaking time. He just recorded a load of swearing, dropped it in the cage overnight, came back, and the next day was the conference. And if he’s walking in, and his parents are all Swear again.

Sam [00:23:07]:
Oh my gosh. He he he causes this. He probably started he probably started this 40 years ago.

Chris [00:23:13]:
And Rochelle had to Sip parents.

Sam [00:23:22]:
What? I don’t know how I feel about this thing. We can’t have the parrots.

Chris [00:23:29]:
Oh my god. That is hilarious. Yeah. So my uncle was my hero when I was growing.

Sam [00:23:35]:

Sam [00:24:22]:
So this must have been he must have got caught in around 2019 ish, I guess. Yeah. So he had 5 accomplices, And they pretended that they were the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, and they convinced The director of a Brazilian bank, that’s who they were. And he said, oh, we need $10,000,000. No. So the Brazilian asked for a $10,000,000 commission for negotiating the investment, and they’re like, yeah. All good. The Brazilian bank noticed that half its capital was resting in the Cayman Islands.

Sam [00:24:59]:
They lost $242,000,000 from the scam, And the guy never asked to see construction worker or anything. They’re just like, yeah. Yeah. It’s going it’s going well.

Chris [00:25:10]:
