Sam [00:00:06]:

Hello, and welcome to Episode 460 of the Chris and Sam podcast. I’m Chris. And I’m Sam. Welcome along to your weekly fix of randomness technology in life brought to you by some drink that I picked up called Kick Natural energy, blackberry. I haven’t even had it yet, but I might do.

Chris [00:00:37]:

I don’t know if you need it.

Sam [00:00:39]:

I’m good. I’m trying to keep the energy high, Chris, because There’s a lot of stuff going on on them. Uh-huh. Busy, man.

Chris [00:00:44]:

This this time of year, it’s just crazy. So I’m getting slammed with a bunch of work, so I’m working right up to 20th, like,

Sam [00:00:51]:

Yeah.

Chris [00:00:52]:

Full on. Oh. No. Good.

Sam [00:00:54]:

There’s an interesting look on Sam’s face after he took

Chris [00:00:56]:

a swig of this, blackberry stuff.

Sam [00:00:58]:

It’s all natural. No sugar. I wish there was a bit more sugar.

Chris [00:01:03]:

Yeah. It looked like he sucked a lemon. That was awesome. Yeah. Sight Gags and podcasts. Beautiful. That’s the best.

Sam [00:01:10]:

That’s the best. They They they can imagine it. Yes. So,

Chris [00:01:14]:

how has your week been?

Sam [00:01:16]:

I’ve had better weeks, Chris. There was a dead bird I had to deal with at the start of the week. It was really I threw flew into the, glass panel at our house? At the house. Yeah. So I dealt with that.

Chris [00:01:26]:

Like, not in the Back veranda type thing?

Sam [00:01:28]:

Yeah. Yeah. There’s that glass panel next to the pool there.

Chris [00:01:31]:

Oh, alright. I’m with you. Yeah. Yeah.

Sam [00:01:32]:

And then later on, in the week, my daughter’s cat got run over and killed. So

Chris [00:01:36]:

Oh, no. But that’s the the cat lives at the other place.

Sam [00:01:41]:

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Chris [00:01:41]:

Yeah. Oh, bugger.

Sam [00:01:42]:

So no good. It’s a buried date yesterday.

Chris [00:01:47]:

Cold. Cold. Yeah. I, I’ve I’ve got a lot of work on. Well, actually, this week, I’ve just found out that we’re not going to be renewed in this Contract to the New Year. So, Yeah. That should be interesting because I may need to be looking for some extra work. So hustle hustle is on next Next, next year for me.

Chris [00:02:06]:

So if you’re listening to this and you go, I really, really, really need some coaching on some speaking or Even helping with some video bits and pieces. I don’t know. Anything at all, let me know.

Sam [00:02:20]:

Reach out. I will say oh, no. I’ll take off you.

Chris [00:02:23]:

Yeah. Yeah. So, anyway, that’s cool. I I I’ve got some things in the pipeline, so it should all work out, but it’s just one of those things. Right? But yeah. So still deadlines are crazy for this week, which didn’t help because I ended up going up to Auckland.

Sam [00:02:37]:

Hang on. Just real quickly. Your deadlines, you’re doing hard out now for the stuff that you’re doing for Epic. Yep. Is that stuff for next year then? Because the students must be

Chris [00:02:47]:

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Sam [00:02:48]:

Closing it’s like shutting down shop.

Chris [00:02:49]:

I I wanted to get them done. They want to get as much done before Christmas as possible

Sam [00:02:54]:

Okay.

Chris [00:02:55]:

Which they finish on 20th. So guess what? I finish on 20th. Yeah. I think he actually finishes today, But me and Lana are gonna keep working next week

Sam [00:03:04]:

to

Chris [00:03:04]:

get this stuff done. So But yeah. Yeah.

Sam [00:03:06]:

So I messaged you the other morning trying to organize this podcast recording time because we always gotta Figured that out. And you’re like, something like, where were you?

Chris [00:03:15]:

You’re I’m on to Puia.

Sam [00:03:17]:

No. But you you didn’t say that. You’re at the train Puinui. Yeah. You said the station name, and you’re like, it’s freezing, and I’m waiting for Tohuya. And I’m like, okay.

Chris [00:03:25]:

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Puinui is, the station name, I’d never heard of it before.

Sam [00:03:31]:

What were you doing in Auckland?

Chris [00:03:33]:

So, I’ve been Attending for about a year or over a year this, online regular meeting thing, like a mastermind thing, but more personal stuff. What’s the word? Philosophical. Is

Sam [00:03:50]:

this one is this the one that you said dude runs? Yes. Okay. Yep. Yeah. I’m up for the So

Chris [00:03:54]:

the one that the dude runs

Sam [00:03:55]:

That’s all I need to know. Yeah. Greg. That’s a great question.

Chris [00:03:58]:

So, they they wanted to get together for Drinks in Auckland for, you know, get together because we’d never seen each other in person.

Sam [00:04:07]:

No.

Chris [00:04:07]:

Only been doing this for met Greg. I’ve met Greg.

Sam [00:04:10]:

Yes.

Chris [00:04:10]:

I’ve met Greg a few times. And so that’s cool. And I said, I can’t do it. Like, bit broke at the moment, all that sort of stuff, which was, yeah, Embarrassing, but it’s like, I don’t know.

Sam [00:04:21]:

Hey. But that you know, like record it. Yeah. Yeah. But you’ll you know, that’s the truth, and you’re living within the boundaries. Yeah. Yeah. You know, you’re not, like, racking up

Chris [00:04:28]:

So they all pitched in

Sam [00:04:30]:

Aw.

Chris [00:04:30]:

And, so I could go off and have dinner and and stuff, which is really nice.

Sam [00:04:34]:

Okay.

Chris [00:04:35]:

So I got the train. So this is the 1st time I’ve caught the Yeah. Yeah. So it was cool. From here, get the, Anticlockwise orbiter just takes me around the road of Kerry’s pretty quick. It’s pretty cool. Get there, sit there, jump on the train. I I started chatting to some couple of people at the train station, which was really handy.

Sam [00:04:56]:

Hello, new listeners. Yeah. I’ve been near you enough to know that you just you know, I’ve got No.

Chris [00:05:01]:

I didn’t, actually. I didn’t. No. I didn’t.

Sam [00:05:04]:

You didn’t. Normally, he’s like, I’ve got a podcast. And then they they always say, so what’s it about?

Chris [00:05:10]:

And then I just shut up.

Sam [00:05:12]:

Okay.

Chris [00:05:13]:

No. So, there was this woman who was in America from America. She’s been in New Zealand for a whole Week, I think, and she’s heading back. And I’m like, oh, yeah.

Sam [00:05:23]:

Hang on. Okay. Yeah.

Chris [00:05:25]:

Yeah. I was like, oh, yeah. So you came she goes, oh, I know somebody in Hamilton, I came down, but I thought I’d get the train back, so it’s cool. But, yeah, Delta Airlines just started flying, and she got a a promotion. She used to work in the travel industry.

Sam [00:05:38]:

Oh, okay. It was

Chris [00:05:39]:

like okay. It was like a free ticket, so I couldn’t say no.

Sam [00:05:42]:

I was

Chris [00:05:42]:

like, hell no. You can’t say no to that. So yeah.

Sam [00:05:46]:

I mean, I feel sorry you ended up in Hamilton, but

Chris [00:05:48]:

Yeah. Yeah. And it was it was cold and windy on that station. They don’t have any real, cover or anything. Dave.

Sam [00:05:55]:

Why would you? They don’t think about that. They don’t care. They’re not riding the train. The chief’s trying to

Chris [00:06:00]:

She got the Uber to Frankton, and there’s nowhere to even sit there. And, they said, oh, we’re not even opening this until, the train gets here.

Sam [00:06:09]:

Oh, no. Yeah. There’s there’s nothing outside. It’s just the building.

Chris [00:06:12]:

And so she goes, ah, and they said, I’ll get another Uber to, to to to the other road to Cary one. And so she she got an Uber there. There’s there’s at least somewhere to sit, and there’s a toilet, which was cool. But, no, it’s pretty cold. Anyway so it was cool. Went up there. Thankfully, I spoke to somebody, and they said, oh, you know, you don’t wanna go all the way up to the Strand because you can’t go anywhere From there, you wanna get off at Puanui and jump on the, AT train to Britomart.

Sam [00:06:43]:

Yes.

Chris [00:06:43]:

I’m like, Okay.

Sam [00:06:44]:

But you need the AT card

Chris [00:06:46]:

or not? I already have an AT card Good. From Liam’s wedding when I Oh. I got the ferry across, and I had enough money on it, thankfully. So cool. Did that easy. Easy peasy. Got there, had had dinner with the boys, few beers. We went to Rinsey in the, Wynyard Quarter.

Sam [00:07:06]:

Okay.

Chris [00:07:07]:

Damn really nice. My meal cost me, like, over $100. Well, actually, to be fair, it was my share because we just ended up all pitching in. Okay. And so yeah. That was cool. But, you know, they’d sort of give me money to cover that anyway, so it was all good. And then, the next day, I I stayed at at Chris’s another Chris’s place.

Sam [00:07:29]:

Okay. And it

Chris [00:07:29]:

just it is a reminder. Right? So this guy’s a banker. He makes a lot of money.

Sam [00:07:33]:

Part of this group?

Chris [00:07:34]:

He’s part of this group.

Sam [00:07:35]:

Yeah. Yeah.

Chris [00:07:35]:

He he he obviously does well for himself. He drives a Range Rover for for argument’s sake.

Sam [00:07:41]:

Oh, yeah.

Chris [00:07:42]:

But he’s in the middle of getting a divorce. Like, he’s just sold the house. He’s got a couple of kids. Just sold the house Yep. By auction. And we’re sitting in his house, and I don’t know what it went for, but it would be 1,000,000.

Sam [00:07:52]:

Oh, he’s a he’s

Chris [00:07:53]:

a great view. There’s swimming pool, there’s spa pool. There’s many, many bedrooms. I didn’t even can explore the whole house. And, Yeah. Paul Bugger doesn’t know where he’s gonna be living. His, contract’s up with his job, and, his wife’s gone.

Sam [00:08:07]:

So yeah. Lot of stress.

Chris [00:08:09]:

Yeah. Stressful. But, anyway, it does make you realize to be thankful for what you’ve got.

Sam [00:08:15]:

That’s exactly right.

Chris [00:08:16]:

Anyway, that that was my, trip, pretty much. And coming back, I I got dropped off at home. I hung up really early, And I jumped on. When you’re on the AT, you can’t really get off it again to get any coffee or anything. So I I spent my first 4 or 5 hours waiting for Tahoeia because it wasn’t till 10, I didn’t realize, and starving. And then I got on and had the greatest, The greatest cheese and onion toasted sandwich of all time. It may not have been, but it really was at that moment for me.

Sam [00:08:50]:

So the trip up there in there with Tohuya, that quite smooth.

Chris [00:08:53]:

Oh, really good. Really good.

Sam [00:08:54]:

No. No. Go.

Chris [00:08:55]:

Yeah. Yeah. Definitely recommend it.

Sam [00:08:57]:

Do you know what I hate probably more than anything, Chris? It’s just this time it’s it’s any time of the year, to be honest. But I she just yeah. It just annoys me.

Chris [00:09:09]:

Is that

Sam [00:09:09]:

gonna be I know everything gonna be. But this this one at the moment, because I just saw 1 earlier just before before I got these drinks, the people outside supermarkets that are there for some sort of charity thing.

Chris [00:09:19]:

Oh, yeah. Yeah.

Sam [00:09:20]:

Yeah. I mean, at the moment at New World, the dairy place, we call it a dairy because it’s like, Whatever you think of a new world, this is like 1 20th of the size. It’s a little tiny one. Outside is a guy with, I don’t know. Some sort of get well wellness health book slash religion slash god knows what. Anyway, But normally, it’s the same crowd that do all the different charities, and you know they’re the same crowd because the stands are identical. They’re exactly all the same size. They’re all wearing the exact same stuff.

Sam [00:09:50]:

It’s just got different branding. And every time they try and start a conversation with me and I’m just like, nope, Alright. Just ignore them. But a giving machine, they’ve started these giving machines, and it’s basically a giant vending machine, and it’s the 1st time they’re in New Zealand. Now I don’t know how you feel about this, but the church of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints is running this.

Chris [00:10:15]:

Yeah. Because they are they are richer than the Catholic church now.

Sam [00:10:19]:

Good. Good. Good. But

Chris [00:10:21]:

need the money. But

Sam [00:10:22]:

no. They don’t get the money. There’s a whole bunch of different charities in there, and you basically just get a card that says, hey. Thanks for donating to this charity. So you can go to a machine, not talk to anyone, and give some money to whatever charity you want. In the 1st 2 weeks, they made $27,000. Nice. They’ve already raised it.

Sam [00:10:41]:

They said it’s really tough to raise funds, which I do believe.

Chris [00:10:44]:

Yeah.

Sam [00:10:44]:

And I don’t like the I don’t like these people on the side of the road. They’re like, hey. Can you can you donate to this thing? And it’s like, yeah. I would love to donate to you Potentially, but I don’t wanna do it every month for until I remember to cancel it.

Chris [00:10:58]:

So what I don’t like are the ones that get paid to travel the world and do that stuff. Right? Well, that 1st crowd. Exactly. It’s that crowd. What I can do I I’m okay with, the Cancer Society, daffodil day because you know they’re all volunteers. Right? And and the poppy thing, whatever it is, you know. Yep. Those those are all voluntary, and that I have no problem with those.

Sam [00:11:17]:

And Ever since you told me these guys travel around to get paid, that makes me a bit more really fancy. Yeah. Because they

Chris [00:11:25]:

all came to the the The comedy club one day.

Sam [00:11:27]:

That’s right. Yeah. Yeah. That’s how I know. Yeah. Yeah. So, anyway so it’s pretty cool. You can check that out.

Sam [00:11:32]:

In New Zealand’s been in the news quite a bit in the last couple of weeks. People are getting me all excited. They’ve committed to buying an electric plane. Nice. There are a few people who are, but, Why did you get a locally made one? I don’t even know if there is a locally made one.

Chris [00:11:49]:

Well, let

Sam [00:11:50]:

me check.

Chris [00:11:51]:

Really. No.

Sam [00:11:52]:

They’ve got this So I didn’t know this. 12% of all of New Zealand’s carbon emissions were from aviation. Right? The rest of the world is 2.8%.

Chris [00:12:04]:

Well, that’s because we’re so far away from

Sam [00:12:06]:

the river. Right? Exactly. Exactly. I know. So, anyway, they’re gonna hope change it. They’ve got this little plane. They’re gonna start flying it in 2026, and then they’re gonna they’re turning for cargo. So New Zealand Post is like, We we we’ve signed on.

Sam [00:12:19]:

We’re the people. I was like, okay. Like, that was like a no brainer. Like, they just sort of

Chris [00:12:24]:

Yeah. Okay. I still don’t know why they don’t do zeppelins.

Sam [00:12:29]:

I told you about the guy I used to work with that had DMA. No. So there was a, Way back in the day, there’s this little guy that always seemed greasy. Yeah. Always covered in grease, it seemed, or dirty. I don’t know what his deal was. He’s an Englishman. His name’s, Nigel? Yeah.

Sam [00:12:44]:

Nigel. That’s right. Can’t really remember what his title was. I think he’s electrical fitter or something like that, and he’s like, oh, and we’re on the drink one time, and he goes, oh, Yeah. Yeah. I was really into I was really into those, the airships. I’m like, what? Yeah. He had a company.

Sam [00:12:58]:

He had airships. And then he just had and this was in 20 Oh, this

Chris [00:13:03]:

has been 10 years.

Sam [00:13:04]:

Oh, I don’t know. 16 years ago maybe he was showing me this, and he had these weird little videos on his phone. Like, They were really crappy videos that must have been filmed with the 1st phone that had video, and he had these they were pretty big. They’re like the size of rugby field maybe. Yeah. There are a whole bunch of them, and he goes, oh, I hear you’re really good. But something happened, and I can’t remember what it was. And he goes, the market just fell out.

Sam [00:13:24]:

And I don’t know what he was doing with them. Yeah. But he hit them, and he goes, oh, no. They’re like a really viable

Chris [00:13:30]:

Oh, they are. I mean, I’ve got a book here that’s and I I really read into it because There were you know, the Hindenburg killed it, but before that, it was the only way to travel from Germany to, like, Argentina, and they had a regular mail run that that took, I wanna say, 9 days, whereas by sea, it would be 35 or something? Yeah. And, and it was so safe. It was considered so safe. They got to 1, South American country, And they were having a revolution, so they just stayed in the sky for 2 days waiting

Sam [00:14:06]:

Yeah.

Chris [00:14:06]:

Like like a ship offshore. You know? You can’t do that in a plane. No. He just they they had enough food, so they just stayed there and and

Sam [00:14:13]:

But it’s these crashes that cause problems, isn’t it? Because I know you’ve got this plane thing here.

Chris [00:14:17]:

Yeah. I wanna talk about that.

Sam [00:14:18]:

And but, basically, like, Concorde, it’s been 20 odd 25 years, wasn’t it? 20 years? It was more than that. I think it’s a 25 in that clip.

Chris [00:14:27]:

Oh, maybe it was.

Sam [00:14:28]:

Since

Chris [00:14:28]:

then oh, 25 since. Yeah.

Sam [00:14:30]:

Yeah. 25 years since the last flight.

Chris [00:14:32]:

Yeah. I I I thought you meant how long was it flying.

Sam [00:14:35]:

It was flying. Yeah. For a while. And, basically, because they couldn’t fly anywhere because the US says you’re not allowed to come over America because of sonic booms

Chris [00:14:43]:

Yeah. See, that was all news to me. So that that was what I found interesting about this video, and we’ll we’ll link this video in the show notes. It’s my friend, Cleo Cleo Abram.

Sam [00:14:52]:

I sometimes wonder If this was just presented by an average looking dude if you’d watch any of these videos.

Chris [00:14:59]:

I wonder too. But it’s she’s really interesting. She’s got some great stuff.

Sam [00:15:03]:

Yes. She is.

Chris [00:15:04]:

But, yeah, I I do wonder. So, anyway, yeah, that was the thing. I didn’t realize supersonic jet. So first thing, I’d never really thought about it, but I thought, like she said early in the thing, as soon as it hits the the sound barrier, that’s when you hear the boom, and you only hear Boom once.

Sam [00:15:22]:

Yeah.

Chris [00:15:22]:

And I hadn’t really thought about it. I just assumed that was the case.

Sam [00:15:26]:

Well, much most people do.

Chris [00:15:27]:

Yeah. But what she explained was It’s booming all the time as it’s going past.

Sam [00:15:32]:

Yeah. You

Chris [00:15:32]:

just hear it as it goes past you.

Sam [00:15:34]:

Yes.

Chris [00:15:34]:

But it’s continually booming everywhere, and I’m like, oh, well, that makes sense. Yeah. I never really Yeah. Thought about it, but it makes sense. So that was the first thing. Second thing, how loud that boom was, I had no idea.

Sam [00:15:46]:

Yeah. That I I think I was I thought I don’t know why. I thought it was gonna be a bit louder. She has a comparison on there.

Chris [00:15:51]:

It’ll be louder if it’s down near you, like a low flying thing,

Sam [00:15:56]:

But I didn’t think you’d hear it

Chris [00:15:57]:

so loud when it’s, like Yeah. That’s true. That’s true. So yeah. And it it so it’s it’s quite loud. It’s, firecracker Styled loud, I think.

Sam [00:16:06]:

I can’t remember what it was. One of them.

Chris [00:16:09]:

So, yeah, so the state said, no. You’re not allowed to fly over Cities anymore. And and all these other countries around the world went, yes. Sounds good.

Sam [00:16:17]:

We won’t let you fly over

Chris [00:16:18]:

our city and then disturb our people anymore, And so it could only fly across the ocean Yes. At Criscoll. So it had some issues. It it Crashed and stuff, and they shut it down. Yeah. And, I mean, it was getting old. So It

Sam [00:16:32]:

was old tech, but it was cutting so much time. It was like 3 and a half hour crossing,

Chris [00:16:36]:

wasn’t it? Half The time of everything else. So it’s gone to 7 hours again now.

Sam [00:16:41]:

What would have really I bet what would have because I’m assuming when it I don’t know. But when it crashed and those people died, There must have just been there couldn’t have been that many famous people on that plane because all the famous people were on it initially.

Chris [00:16:53]:

Yeah. I don’t know, but I can’t remember, but I think it was definitely business people. A lot of walk

Sam [00:16:59]:

street types.

Chris [00:17:01]:

You know, just wanting time’s important. Mhmm. So, anyway so They’re creating this thing. They it’s called the X59. This is it was Boeing. Hey. Was it Boeing?

Sam [00:17:10]:

Lockheed Martin for NASA. Yeah. Well, in production with NASA.

Chris [00:17:13]:

NASA and Lockheed Martin.

Sam [00:17:14]:

Sorry. You’re right. At Skunk Works.

Chris [00:17:16]:

So she got access

Sam [00:17:18]:

to it, which sounds like it was pretty impressive she She got access to that. Spoke to that random dude, and she’s like, hey. So you don’t, like, really let anybody see this. And he’s like, you’re the only one in the state That’s not part of the project, basically. And then she’s like, oh, can I sit on the seat? No. No. No. No.

Sam [00:17:35]:

No. Because I’ve already been told off that you’re here, basically. So I think somebody’s gone, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Come in. Because she had a 2 hour window on a special day after giving all the clearance.

Chris [00:17:44]:

Yeah. But, definitely watch the video because

Sam [00:17:46]:

They must have reviewed the footage too. Right? Like, she must have had to have given them the edit Yeah. And gone

Chris [00:17:50]:

Oh, yeah. Yeah. Probably. Yeah.

Sam [00:17:52]:

Yeah. This is this is it, and that would have been right there.

Chris [00:17:54]:

The fascinating thing so what they’re trying to do is they They can do a supersonic jet. We know that, but they’re trying to do it without the boom. Yeah. So the first thing that’s really noticeable about this jet so they’re they’re just making a A a 1 seat jet or maybe 2 seat

Sam [00:18:08]:

No. 1.

Chris [00:18:08]:

  1. One seat jet to, prove that this can work. Go supersonic without a big boom. And the way they’re doing that is, first of all, they’re making a really long nose. So it just gently moves the air aside, basically. And it’s 38 feet long, which is a it it looks ridiculous.

Sam [00:18:29]:

It does. It looks a bit silly.

Chris [00:18:30]:

But if it works, it works. And then the the other thing they’re doing is the underside is so incredibly smooth Yep. And any, perturbances on or or, Yeah. Things on the are on the top. So the any, ruffle of the airwaves will go upwards rather than downwards. So It may boom above, but not boomed below, which I thought was very clever. So they’re spending ungodly amounts of money on this prototype. They they didn’t say how much,

Sam [00:19:00]:

I think. No. No. That’s the only one they’re gonna build. Like, that’s it. And and

Chris [00:19:03]:

it’s just to prove that they can make it go supersonic And quiet.

Sam [00:19:07]:

I just can’t see I just can’t see them taking that tick and putting it back into something like the Concorde. I just can’t because I just like, well, You know, it’s just easier for us just to have what we’ve got now with long range, take a bit long keep the people on the plane a bit longer. They’ll spend a bit more money. I don’t know.

Chris [00:19:24]:

No. They’ll they’ll they’ll do it eventually.

Sam [00:19:26]:

Well, there is that other company they do mention in this video, which I can’t remember the name of. I think it’s called Boom, actually. Yeah. Yeah. They they’re building an actual plane as well that they’re trying to do, and it looked like it was like a private jet type size Yeah. Thing. Yeah. And they the funny thing with this jet is so the Concorde obviously had the bent nose, the crook.

Chris [00:19:44]:

Yeah. So and the whole point of the bending nose was so the pilots could see where they’re landing.

Sam [00:19:48]:

Yeah. This jet doesn’t bend, so they’ve just basically got a giant Screen that the the pilot will be able to see, and there’s a camera on the front.

Chris [00:19:56]:

Yeah. Yeah. Which is is normal tech now. Right?

Sam [00:20:00]:

I guess so.

Chris [00:20:00]:

Yeah. That’s but back in the day, that would have been, like, you know, it would have been black and white screens for starters.

Sam [00:20:07]:

I’ll tell you what I tell you what I have been watching. Actually, you just reminded me. I’ll get the name right because I don’t wanna put people wrong. It’s on Netflix. I don’t know if it’s been around for a while or if it’s just come out now or on Netflix. I’m not sure. I’m watching World War 2 from the front lines. Oh, it’s a 2023 production.

Sam [00:20:27]:

So, basically, they, they got they’re going through the whole World War 2, Six episodes, but they’ve colorized it all.

Chris [00:20:35]:

I remember somebody talking about that. Maybe it was still in production then.

Sam [00:20:39]:

Maybe. Yeah. So Peter Jackson was doing something somewhere, but I don’t know if this is the same thing or something different.

Chris [00:20:43]:

Yeah. Yeah.

Sam [00:20:44]:

But it’s it’s mental. A, the scale of everything is just mind blowing. Like, he’s like, oh, let’s move 3,000,000 trips. This is let’s 3,000,000 of his trip go somewhere and, like, obliterate everyone. Okay. Cool. But the it’s the footage. No matter what they’re showing or what they’re talking about, there’s footage in a plane, in a submarine, on a boat, Something blowing up, people getting shot, whatever.

Sam [00:21:05]:

There’s someone there with a camera filming it on both sides. Yeah. And I’m just like, people I don’t know. There’s always somebody there that has documented or something.

Chris [00:21:17]:

Yeah. Yeah. I might have to check that out. I did I Tell you, did I mention it last week? I don’t think so. I’ve been watching Welcome to Wrexham.

Sam [00:21:24]:

That’s the, football club, Yeah.

Chris [00:21:26]:

Yeah. The Ryan Reynolds football club. Oh, yeah. It was. I watched the 1st season.

Sam [00:21:29]:

Is it good? Fantastic.

Chris [00:21:31]:

Really, really good.

Sam [00:21:32]:

Oh, yeah.

Chris [00:21:32]:

I’m very impressed.

Sam [00:21:34]:

Oh,

Chris [00:21:34]:

cool. Because I I thought, yeah, it’ll be interesting. And I I down actually Got it a while ago, and I hadn’t got around to it. So I I started watching, and I ended up binging pretty much the whole whole 1st season. So I haven’t started 2nd Season. Yeah. But, definitely definitely with a a look, I think.

Sam [00:21:49]:

Okay. Yeah.

Chris [00:21:50]:

Yeah. He knows how to tell us all that he, they, him, and Rob McElhinney. Yeah. That’s right. I know Rob. Yeah. Everybody’s like, yeah, Ryan and the other dude.

Sam [00:22:02]:

Yeah. No. Yeah. Rob from, It’s Always Sunny.

Chris [00:22:06]:

Yeah. I’ve never seen that, so I don’t know.

Sam [00:22:08]:

Oh, it’s pretty crazy. That’s the you hear the behind the scenes story of that, And they’re just like they just made their own show, basically. And they’re like, hey. Danny DeVito, do you wanna be in it? He’s like, yeah. And, it was the longest running sitcom, I think, they just got last year. 15, 16 seasons now.

Chris [00:22:27]:

Oh, really?

Sam [00:22:28]:

Yeah. Okay. Yeah. There’s a

Chris [00:22:29]:

lot. I need to maybe maybe I need to check that out. So, anyway, yeah. Welcome to Rexam. I recommend that. I did I also did I mention in this the oh, no. I did. The creator.

Chris [00:22:40]:

I talked about that online on the podcast. Okay. I watched the creator finally

Sam [00:22:45]:

You did. You did. You did. It’s very good. Sorry. I do I don’t know what the hell what what that was reference to. Yes.

Chris [00:22:50]:

Yes. Yes.

Sam [00:22:51]:

Good. We’re on to it.

Chris [00:22:52]:

And before I forget, Shout out to, Warren because Warren.

Sam [00:22:57]:

Shout out to

Chris [00:22:58]:

you. Because, I caught up with him at the comedy club the other day, and he listens to podcast all the time now. And so yeah.

Sam [00:23:05]:

From that one day that, like Or or earlier?

Chris [00:23:07]:

Well, it yeah. From from a couple of

Sam [00:23:09]:

Oh, okay. Good. He’s learning so much.

Chris [00:23:12]:

He’s learning so much.

Sam [00:23:13]:

He’s learning so much. Probably about what not to do on a podcast, actually. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Chris [00:23:17]:

Yeah. No. No. It’s cool. It’s cool. So, yep. So that was cool. Yeah.

Chris [00:23:22]:

So went to Hamilton the other week.

Sam [00:23:25]:

Yeah.

Chris [00:23:26]:

Walked out there, well, got my ticket last minute. Walked out there.

Sam [00:23:30]:

That’s right.

Chris [00:23:30]:

Oh, no. Caught the bus out there, actually. Got We know.

Sam [00:23:33]:

We know. You told us all this.

Chris [00:23:34]:

Have I done this?

Sam [00:23:35]:

Yes. Okay. Anyway, you went after that that You went after the dinner. You’ve told the story about you went on the wrong day.

Chris [00:23:41]:

I went on the wrong day. That was

Sam [00:23:42]:

Yeah. Okay. That that was a and then we recorded a podcast last week before we went to this debrief. The dinner at Noa, really good.

Chris [00:23:52]:

Yeah. That was good.

Sam [00:23:53]:

The update. And then after that, you went across the road to the comedy thing. Yeah. And the comedy thing was okay,

Chris [00:23:59]:

wasn’t it? Comedy thing was okay. Yeah. I write.

Sam [00:24:01]:

Caught you up even though you’re there.

Chris [00:24:05]:

Dementia’s a bitch. Keep drink keep

Sam [00:24:08]:

keep drinking your KICK natural energy blackberry, made by

Chris [00:24:12]:

I I need the Reaper, I think. I think that’s what I’m I’m missing. The the brain juice.

Sam [00:24:17]:

The budget didn’t stretch for that. You’re drinking this weird drink from Australia. What else you got here? Oh, there was a incredibly rare half male, Half female bird, found in South America, and, it’s all rather exciting. It was a bloody New Zealander that found it in Colombia. He was in a he’s he is an Otago professor. They haven’t seen one for about a 100 years, and this guy’s like, I found it. But he he did have it like, it sounded like yeah.

Chris [00:24:51]:

I’ve ate it.

Sam [00:24:53]:

That’s right. So, one of the birds is, what the The female are one of them. I’m not even gonna read it. One’s blue and one’s green, and he’s found one that’s got half and half. And, he was with somebody else, so they verified it. They did get photos of it. He’s very excited to look at him. Alright.

Sam [00:25:10]:

Very professor like.

Chris [00:25:11]:

Yes.

Sam [00:25:13]:

Yeah. Only the 2nd recorded example of Gynondromorphism in the species for more than a 100 years, and it was published in the journal of Field Ornithology. So that’s probably an exciting thing really for that, part of the

Chris [00:25:27]:

Oh, yeah. That that’s huge. That’s huge. Hey. So So we’re now on bird ornithologists, and the other week, it was, all the New Zealand spider experts you were talking about. That’s right. Yeah. That’s

Sam [00:25:39]:

right. But we got

Chris [00:25:40]:

some experts in New Zealand. We really do.

Sam [00:25:42]:

No. I think we stuff. I think some I think some of them read an article, and they’re like, damn it. Wanna be on the news. I wanna be on the news. And this guy’s like, I’ve booked a one way ticket to Colombia, and his partner or wife’s going, what are you doing? I’ve got to go. It’s on my bucket list. And he’s like he’s just there running around the jungle, like, hacking stuff up.

Sam [00:26:03]:

If he didn’t find this bird, he probably would’ve still be there? No. He’d He’d still be there.

Chris [00:26:07]:

Yeah. He’s gonna be there till he found it.

Sam [00:26:10]:

Some naturally dead birds And, brought him back to stuff him or something.

Chris [00:26:14]:

Yeah. So I got a question for you. How much would you pay to be able to run an exercise if you couldn’t run an exercise?

Sam [00:26:21]:

I don’t know. I oh, okay. I it depends on how active you are before oh, can was the person active before and then they lost the ability? No. They’ve never had the ability. Yeah. I don’t know. Like, what’s the what’s the actual answer for this?

Chris [00:26:35]:

So, anyway, what I’m talking about is sickle cell anemia. Yeah. So It’s a genetic condition that creates extreme pain in the joints, and it can be it can move. It can be this joint, and then It goes away. It’s in another joint.

Sam [00:26:48]:

Oh, that

Chris [00:26:48]:

sounds good. Understand it. Anyway Okay. So and it’s so painful. It’s debilitating.

Sam [00:26:54]:

People Not fun.

Chris [00:26:55]:

Just Cannot get up and move and stuff. So finally, they’ve got a cure, which is itself painful to go through, but You go through it for a a month or 2, and then you’re fixed. No more. And it’s using CRISPR.

Sam [00:27:13]:

Oh, the gene sequencing

Chris [00:27:15]:

thing to change your genes. So it’s really cool.

Sam [00:27:18]:

Okay.

Chris [00:27:18]:

But, if you $20,000. Permanent fix. The price tag for just getting there is 2,200,000 US dollars.

Sam [00:27:26]:

Now that’ll come down, and they’ll just be give it a couple of years.

Chris [00:27:29]:

No. You know why?

Sam [00:27:30]:

Oh, someone’s got the patent. They own it.

Chris [00:27:33]:

No. Because it’s, black people get it more than anybody else. Oh, no. Oh, no. Say it like that, but I’d I you know that’s true. Like, it it apparently is predominant in African American well, African people.

Sam [00:27:48]:

I don’t know why it’s a genetic thing.

Chris [00:27:50]:

But Okay. Yeah. So yeah. I and I understand it costs a lot initially to do the research, But to say it’s gonna cost you $2,200,000 every time you

Sam [00:28:01]:

do

Chris [00:28:01]:

the process, given that, you know, you’re good for life After that That’s pretty cool. Presumably. I mean, obviously, we we don’t

Sam [00:28:08]:

know yet because I only had a

Chris [00:28:09]:

couple of people go through it, but it it’s it’s great. It’s a great scientific Breakthrough. It’s brilliant. This whole cost of doing anything in the States, though, is just ludicrous.

Sam [00:28:21]:

Yeah. No. That’s crazy. So hopefully, that, like, will spread out to who was that lady on that on My First Million the other day? She was talking about that sort of stuff.

Chris [00:28:30]:

Ma. I can’t remember. Jess Maher.

Sam [00:28:32]:

Jess Maher. Yeah. She’s clever, but she was talking about looking at, like, cancer and stuff in different ways and Yeah. And talk about that a little bit.

Chris [00:28:38]:

So if you didn’t listen to My 1st million, they interview some really cool people, and this chick, Jess Mayer, is just shy of being a billionaire, I guess.

Sam [00:28:46]:

Yes.

Chris [00:28:47]:

Quite young and

Sam [00:28:48]:

Super relatable.

Chris [00:28:49]:

Yeah. Very Of course. No. She’s cool, though.

Sam [00:28:51]:

No. No. She is.

Chris [00:28:51]:

She is very cool. And, yeah, she started A biotech, well, she has several biotech companies and, doing some crazy stuff, and she knows nothing about biology.

Sam [00:29:02]:

Anyway yeah. That’s right. That brings us to the end of this podcast. We have got Adam a movie night at Adam’s.

Chris [00:29:09]:

Yes. He’s really excited

Sam [00:29:10]:

to show us something. We went we went to the debrief thing, and he’s telling me across the table, he goes, The the the Blu ray or DVD, it’s all what? I’ve ordered 2, and and they’re on the same order, but they’ve only sent 1. But that’s okay. I really want to show you the other one. I hope it turns up in time. Like, he was visibly excited. Okay. So, this will come out the day after we’ve seen it.

Sam [00:29:34]:

Adam will hear this after the fact. And then the following episode, we might give you a little bit of a rundown of Yes. How crazy this film is.

Chris [00:29:42]:

Yeah.

Sam [00:29:42]:

Because I’ve seen films you’ve shown before.

Chris [00:29:44]:

Be watching 2 or 3 films. Right? 3, probably.

Sam [00:29:47]:

Yeah. I think so. Yeah. I think so.

Chris [00:29:48]:

So that’s As usual, everything. And I may be going oh, I’m supposed to be going to Die Hard Christmas movie at the region Nice. Next week as well.

Sam [00:29:57]:

Excellent. Yeah. So that’s it. Until next time. I’m Sam.

Chris [00:30:01]:

Yep. And, if we will catch you next week, so we will be doing the plan is to be doing, another one next week, but I’m gonna say Merry Christmas now anyway, just in case. Alright. So Merry Christmas. Merry Christmas.

Sam [00:30:14]:

Okay. Okay. See you. Bye. Hope you enjoyed the show. Make sure to subscribe, and you’re catch you next week. Don’t forget to tell your friend.
